      It is a diverse geography and terrain. There are mountains in South (Ooty and Kodaikanal), Western Ghats (Sahyadris) on the west, Vindhyas in central, deserts on west and rain forests in east. So it is always fun for adventure seekers no matter where you are in India.@@noobieta06

    Royal Enfield is dialed into something important that the other players are missing.
    Low CC doesn’t have to mean “beginner bike”. You can put your best work into a light or middleweight bike and there are people out there (many people) who would snap it up.
    KTM 390 Adventure, BMW G310GS, Honda CB500X, etc are all giving us half measures. If you want their best work, you have to be ok with owning a giant bike for off road use.
    I really hope Royal Enfield is successful here and that their success raises the bar for low displacement adventure bikes.

      I agree 💯! You have to appreciate a company that listens and delivers. They were already killing it with 200,000 units of the 411 sold worldwide. They could have just milked it, but they realized how many sells they lost because it was under powered, or some other common complaint. It occured to them, if we had it to do over, how could we get THOSE customers to buy an Himalayan. This bike will exceed sells what the 411 did. I'm tempted to buy a 411 and store it for future value. Imagine, rolling out a mint condition 411 in about 25 years. People will beg you to sell it, for a huge profit.

      So, y'all want a newly designed bike, with significant upgrades, conveniences, and improved performance & capabilites, for the old price? Let's just forget about inflation, the money spent on designing, engineering, research & development, tooling, testing, and marketing. • @akustaka
      @akustaka Před 7 měsíci

      Literally no one said they wanted it for the price of the old one, simply that the price had to be right to justify it or else other brands look more appealing at higher prices with proven track records. This is REs first water cooled motor and only time will tell if it will be reliable. I'm a RE fan, and even I understand that if the price is over 20% of the 411 5500 MSRP (over 6600 usd) then a lot of people are going to struggle swallowing that pill.@@tangoindiamike9189

      Itchy Boots rode two different 411 models, rode them hard, and they proved to be up to the task. She is a big part of the reason why I decided to buy a brand new "old model" I absolutely love "low tech". I've been riding a Suzuki DR650 forever. It is solid and reliable. But the original Himalayan seems to be more comfortable and tractable, and certainly a LOT better looking. I have owned (and loved) a 2013 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 for 10 years. I converted it from EFI to an Amal Concentric MK1 carb, and installed an aftermarket exhaust on it. I currently have just over 22,000 miles on it. I usually ride it around 55 mph.

    This is perhaps the unicorn bike that only RE could release. The 450 single is probably the perfect size for a serious adventure bike. The major companies like KTM BMW Honda etc don't want to make such a bike because it will be too good. It would threaten the huge profits they make on the oversized overweight adventure bikes they sell. Instead they give us 250s and 300s that just don't have the power, or maybe the KTM 390. Honda has given us the CRF 300 but it's really only a 280, yes there is the CRF 450 but it's expensive and completely dirt focused, rather than a balanced adventure model. Then they have the 500x but it's a heavy twin really designed for their street bikes. BMW has the 310 . . . But they really want to sell you a 750 or 850 or 1400 whatever it is now. Why RE? Because they don't make big bore bikes it's that simple.

    • @pauld.b7129
      @pauld.b7129 Před měsícem

      I agree. And it's an absolute mystery why Suzuki hasn't upgraded the DRZ400, which is really the bike everyone likes. The KTMs are in their own class in my opinion because they're notoriously unreliable. I'd never feel comfortable taking a 390 on any kind of trip. And the 300 dual sports really aren't much of an upgrade from the 250s, the overall capabilities are basically the same. This looks great to me, and Royal Enfield has proven to be pretty reliable overall with their new bikes. I trust them more than KTM by a long shot

Just plain nailed it. Wouldn’t be surprised to see it around 5899.99 or 6299.00 in the states it’s a major move forward for Royal Enfield and I applaud it. A Scrambler version based on this new 450 platform has been spotted testing since last year. Perhaps it would break cover sometime in 2024. But rumour has it that RE would retain the current gen Scram as well (with its air-cooled engine upgraded slightly to 440cc) as a more affordable scrambler.

    It looks to me like the riding position has got a fairly acute knee bend and for that reason alone I can't have one and a Scram 411 is likely to be my next RE and I think will put off older , less supple riders ( yep that's me! ) But I'm sure it will steal sales from the 400 triumph and introduce younger riders to the marque. I'm sure that's because it favours a better standing-position and I'm a tad disappointed that I will not be embracing this latest ground-breaking ( for RE at least ) Tech! 😥

    Credit to them for fixing some negatives in the original. Despite all the Itchy Boots fans acting like the Himmy was fantastic, it wasn't (and that's why she moved on to Hondas, duh). It was heavy, limited clearance, underpowered, with weak brakes BUT as the Revzilla guys said it was like a mule or burro that kept plugging along. The changes were needed because there IS competition. NOTE for me the biggest issue with RE bikes has been the very short maintenance windows with valve checks every 3000 miles. My SV650 has it's first check at 15000. A CRF300L is 16000. No matter how "easy" it might be to do it yourself, having to do it that often is silly. If this model fixes all those issues for a decent $, great. If it doesn't, I'd rather take a look at the new CFMoto 450MT or a used BMW F650.

    No matter how much the Himalayan gets updated, the original Himalayan would always be a well sought motorcycle (now that it has been discontinued). It's a counterbalanced engine which displaces somewhere between their UCE350s and UCE500s which makes enough power for highways in India.

Plus the shape/width of the seat - the previous Triumph Speed Triple was (diabolically) within my seat height range, but when I put my feet down it felt like my hips were about to pop out of their sockets (no other bike has done that).

    Sounds like a thoroughly capable bike, though why an off road 21in front wheel, with 'adventure' tyres? A comparison with the Fantic 500 Rally would be interesting. Although branded a scrambler, most of the basics - power, torque, suspension travel, ground clearance, brakes - are similar. The Fantic has 30kg less weight, 7cm less wheelbase and a 19 in front wheel....with offroad tyres. I might have given the RE a thought when I bought the Fantic a couple of months ago... and then rode it to Italy, having fitted 'adventure' tyres. A tolerable! 3x7 hours a day in the saddle taught me it's much more than a fun scrambler and the low weight is a big plus.

      @@iamrobot396 I agree! But then R.E should fit the right (knobbly) tyre for that job, rather than the compromise semi street adventure tyre of the test bike. They need to make up their mind whether this is a bike mainly for serious off roading, or mixed use, when a skinny 21in wheel has more cons than pros.

    • @iamrobot396
      @iamrobot396 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@aurigacap8584 No adventures bikes come with knobbly tires as they are terrible on road and cause a lot of vibrations and wear and tear on the highways. You can certainly go ahead and replace them to your preferred tyre type but to say the bike should come with stock knobby tyres is absurd. No manufacture does that unless it's an off-road only focused bike. Also 21" have a much larger tyre selection for off road than 19"
