    Can SleepPhones headphones help you sleep better and more comfortably? I spent weeks testing them.

    Some people struggle their whole lives with getting a good night’s rest, and everyone has their own tricks for getting to sleep and staying asleep. If yours is to wear headphones to block out noise or lull yourself with meditative podcasts or music, you may be one of the ones who’s been using headphones so as not to disturb your partner. But trying to sleep with headphones can be uncomfortable; they hurt your ears and can get tangled overnight. SleepPhones Wireless headphones may be the answer.
    SleepPhones headphones have tiny speakers inside the band that sit over and above your ear so there’s nothing sticking in your ear all night to bother you.
    I have to say I didn’t have the easiest time getting SleepPhones set up.
    I struggled pairing this device multiple times to several devices, both Apple and Android. Sometimes the SleepPhones would show up in my Bluetooth menu and just not connect. Other times they wouldn’t show up at all. I’d say on average it took me about 20 attempts to connect.
    I reached out to Acoustic Sheep, makers of SleepPhones to ask what was up. It seems a couple things could be at play. First, they may not pair to more than one device at a time. Second, they may need as hard reset.
    One thing I didn’t like is that the sleep phones don’t shut off after your podcast finishes. They WILL shut off if your bluetooth turns off but on their own they stay on all night and were still on in the AM when I woke. I guess that;’s ok if you want all night distraction, but it does eat up battery life meaning I needed to charge them every 2 days or so.
    The promised battery life on SleepPhones is about 13 hours, and they do take three hours to fully charge.
    While each speaker has a tiny paper label on it indicating left and right, those are likely to wear off, so Acoustic Sheep has colour coded the speakers: right has red embroidery on one side and left is green (I’ve also seen a green felt pad and red felt pad in place of the embroidery in different models). They go back into the band with the white felt side against your head.
    I was pretty impressed with the wireless range of the SleepPhones. I did some tests where I walked away from the headphones while listening. I was able to get to the other side of the apartment, with walls in between me and my phone, and still get a clear signal.
    SleepPhones don’t make any claims about phenomenal audio quality but I was pleasantly surprised at just how good they did sound. The audio was clear and sharp and as far as I’m concerned, using these for travel or for being lulled to sleep, they’re just great.
    SleepPhones comfort and fit
    VO FIT
    I chose the One Size Fits Most band, which is actually labelled Medium on the inside, and found it fit me well; not too tight and not too loose.
    SleepPhones are quite comfortable to wear and to sleep in. I’m a side sleeper, and as such have never been able to wear headphones to bed. I do listen to podcasts to fall asleep each night, so my solution is to play audio from my iPad’s speaker on low volume from the bedside table. Fortunately, my husband doesn’t mind, but I’d rather not subject him to noise.
    With SleepPhones, I can lay comfortably on either side, and still listen to my shows, without disturbing my husband. Brilliant! There’s also no cords to get tangled up in overnight, another annoyance.
    SleepPhones can also double as a sleep mask. One end of the band is significantly wider than the other; and if you turn it around, you can use it to cover your eyes, though you’ll probably need to readjust the speakers.
    I was quite happy with my SleepPhones. They’re definitely comfortable, and I didn’t find the band too warm.. I like the fact they’re very flat, and don’t press on my head or my ears while I’m sleeping on my side. They’re completely distraction and annoyance-free when it comes to sleeping with headphones on.
    I was pleasantly surprised at the audio quality and really love the idea of these for travelling, for blocking out ambient noise, or for falling asleep to meditative sounds.
    If I had a complaint, it was that these weren’t easy to pair, and it wasn’t clear to me that there are limitations on pairing to more than one device at a time. Now that I know how they work and their limitations, it’s easier, but initially it was frustrating. I also wish they had a shut off timer to preserve battery life.
    Overall, I’d recommend these headphones if you like to sleep while listening to music, podcasts and more. They’re comfortable, easy to wear and they sound great.
    SleepPhones Wireless sell for about $99USD from SleepPhones website.

    Definitely comfortable. Soft and not restricting, audio quality is actually pretty good. Speakers move around but not too much so they fit. The problem i have with this is the fact that it does not block any sound from outside which is my worst sleep disturber. Regular headphones cut off more surrounding sounds. The sleep mask is useless because the Bluetooth charger presses against the forehead.

      Dang it. I was scouring reviews to see if anyone mentioned this. I have sensory processing issues and am DESPERATE to find an over ear headband style set that can reduce noise as well. It’s so hard to find bc most people just recommend in-ear earbuds which are a no go for me. Like, I don’t need noise cancelling, but I do need noise reduction for sure.

    Unlike the re-viewer I do find that I can get very warm wearing them, also it doesn't take much tossing and turning for the bands to move enough that you cannot hear the speakers at all. BUT, to date they are the best alternative I have found.

    I bought the sleepphones wireless effortless, its worth the extra money because it makes charging them much easier and you don't have to remove the bluetooth module from the band like you do with the regular wireless sleepphones, I also suggest getting the cool fabric as opposed to the fleece. With the fleece I was getting too hot. This is one of the best investments I've made and I love my sleepphones so much

    I had the wired version of these for a good couple years, but they wires always broke. I got a free replacement within the first year which was very good of Acoustic Sheep, but again they broke. I know I can strip back the wire and solder on a new jack... but screw it, they sell an upgrade kit which means I can keep the band I have now and just replace the electronics, and I miss them! Thank you. I have had a wired pair for several years. I have sensitive auricles so if I wear them for a long time they do hurt. The band can be hot (it’s poly fleece) but it is super comfortable, even while traveling (long flights!) even though, as stated, too long (a couple of hours?) they can get uncomfortable or hurt. I love the option of using the band as a sleep mask.

    These are amazing. I bought it because my wife snores like a drunken Sasquatch. It was getting to the point where we couldn’t share a bed, I’d always go sleep in the spare room. I used earplugs and even the best ones couldn’t block out her epic snoring. She tried anti-snoring mouth guards, didn’t work. Nasal spray didn’t help, nor did a humidifier in the room.
    But these saved me. Combined with ear plugs and a 10 hour “brown noise” track turned to full volume, a bomb could go off beside me and I wouldn’t hear it. And even at full volume, paired with ear plugs it’s far from being too loud to quickly fall sleep to. She also sleeps with ear plugs too, so she can’t hear the noise coming from it which is great.
    Downsides like you mentioned. Battery life sucks, it’s good for two full nights max. At least at full volume lol. The pads don’t stay in place very well and need to be readjusted each time you out it on. Far from a deal breaker though.
    Plus sides, it’s very comfortable. Even being a side sleeper, the ear on the pillow doesn’t feel the speaker on that side. Audio quality is surprisingly good too. And at full volume it’s no where near as loud an in-ear buds. So despite what my iPhone tells me every morning… I’m not hurting my hearing when wearing ear plugs with it.
    If your partner’s snoring is ruining your life, buy this. 👌

    I've had wired SleepPhones for years now and the issue I've had with them is that I would regularly end up all tangled up in the wire since I move a lot in my sleep, which damages the wire each time it happens. Yesterday the left speaker broke, so I've been thinking about buying the wireless SleepPhones this time around which are much more expensive than the wired ones.
    After watching your video I've decided to buy a pair, and since I already have a band from the wired SleepPhones I have I can just buy the wireless headphones and replace the wired ones.
    Thank you for your review :)

    Got this product other day.. after seeing your review. Thanks for that.
    No probs connecting.
    Easy to adjust the speakers.
    Agree with Autoshutoff.. they should add this to future models.
    The quality of audio was just fine.
    My only gripes are that they do not sell the "with mic" option in UK. Not sure why.. and the UK site has no phone number to call to chat with them. That's a bit poor..
    UPDATE after a few weeks;
    Great, easy connect. Loved it.
    HOWEVER, for last 2 days it keeps losing Bluetooth connection after only a few minutes.
    Will be contacting Acoustic soon for explanation / replacement.
    Very poor.

    • @ErinLawrenceTV
      @ErinLawrenceTV  Před 4 lety +2

      Sure. They don’t have any noise cancelling properties, and they don’t fit so tightly around your head that they will offer noise isolation either. In short, while the sound you play might help to drown out outside noise, these are not going to block out barking dogs and the neighbours lawnmower for example.

He yells sometimes (till 1-4 night sometimes). Also we have gerbils, they make alot of noise aswell. But I hate earplugs that go into your ear canal. Now... is this headband good enough too reduce all the sounds? I don’t need it to clear all the sounds, just a bit. (I like to listen music and fall asleep but standard airpods hurt after a while). Thanks.

    • @ErinLawrenceTV
      @ErinLawrenceTV  Před 3 lety

      It would certainly help if you had ambient or sleep sounds playing on it, but it doesn't have noise cancelling. There's a new kind of headphone out there by Bose called Open ear, which is like an earbud but doesn't go IN your ear canal. That might help too...

    I’m on my 3rd or 4th pair. They hold up very well but I use them everyday for hours at a time. I tried some “pillow speakers” and they were all terrible. And some less expensive headband style like Sleephones and they were cheep, crappy and lower quality. I have zero to do with this company so my glowing endorsement is authentic. No do agree with the video pairing can be a bit confusing and clumsy. Sometime I have to go through the pairing procedure a few times. As far as I know they can only be paired to one device at a time. The other caveat is if you’re pairing to an Apple TV or a device that more than a few feet away they don’t have the range of most Bluetooth devices. However, the pair I have now is about 3 years old and newer technology may have come out. But the sound is really good for on over ear head phone that has no cup. So sound: 9/10 comfort 10/10 ease of use (pause/play/volume +/- and pairing 6/10. Obviously I’d buy them again, and again haha.

    I've tried 5 wireless types. They are all without exception unreliable with Bluetooth, if you pause a video for too long Bluetooth stops, you have to reboot the damn thing by plugging it in again.
    Similarly if you wander out of range temporarily. Tmit isso stupid, clearly the same manufacturer supplies everyone. Chinese rubbish unless you can live with these shortcomings
    Pairing can be a pain.
