- Greek firefighters are tackling blazes on the island of Kos for a second day.
Tourists and locals were forced to evacuate after the fires began.
Wildfires are common in Greece, but hotter and drier weather linked with the effects of climate change has increased their frequency and intensity.

We went to Kos June this year & last year. This year was so much hotter than what it normally is.
We where evacuated from Kardamena, we where just told we where being evacuated & moved by coach to by the airport. Can't fault the police, firefighters, army, volunteers & coach drivers who looked after us throughout the night, there the true heroes 💙

I was in kos when this happened, eveeyone got evacuated it was so scary! - me and my family was dumped in a place where we didn’t know where we were! - luckily some locals asked if we wanted to go to a hotel and sleep in the lobby, next day we were back at our hotel! Thank YOU ALL FIREFIGHTERS!! ❤❤❤
I was there in kos, evacuated from the portobello royal and dumped in a random car park with a cafe, luckily the firefighters put out the fire! Thank god this was so scary! ❤

Too true pal. Just like the treacherous 'wild fires' that killed billions of wildlife in Australia a few years ago. Only in extremely rare instances do fires start without human interference initially.

Russia (oil seller) is behind the wildfires because the law states you can't build wind turbines in burned areas
@@manosparavida3551 The fires could have been dealt with but the green lobby got the annual controlled fires to make fire-breaks cancelled because it was the nesting season for birds. The result was, as you said, billions of roasted animals. I heard that from an Aussie firefighter on YT.
I was there, evacuated from the Portobello Royal hotel on my last night of my 1 week holiday. Planned a trip to the town of Kos, sharing the same name of the island, before this kicked off.
Omg same! I also got evacuated from the Portobello royal and stated in a car park with a cafe! I hope ur ok, idk if this was you, but we’re you at the reception saying that your family was stranded at a island somewhere and me and my dad were trying o book a taxi and you said that you couldn’t? I was gonna go to kos town as well! But I couldn’t because of the fire
Most fires are caused by people either accidental or deliberate.

Just back from Kos last week and must admit it was the hottest I have felt it there, been going for over 10 years now. Could only manage a few hours sunbathing the rest was in the shade. Hope everyone is okay.
I got back yesterday, what hotel did u stay in I stayed in the portobello royal 10km from where the fire was, we got evacuated! It was so scary im only 12! Having to sleep outside in a random car park !

It was a wildfire. And somebody’s house got burned down I witnessed the fire as I was in kos when it happened I got evacuated

It's crazy how much people just won't accept global climate change is real.
And for most of the world that means increases in temperaturebut because for some it means more rain due to changes in the jet stream it's not real they just carry on like nothing bads going to happen.
Down here in Tasmania our winter is freezing with 3 inch ice on our pond. I have never seen ice so thick here in 30 years. The planet is burning up my foot.

Arson as always. Yes the heat helps but as journalists please do your job. No climate politics will save us from these fires, the arsonists need to be caught and punished to the maximum and their cases need to be made public.

I don't deny climate change but you can't resolve this with climate politics. 20+ years of climate politics and CO2 levels rise just the same no change at all. Resolving the issue of wildfires must happen on location, stopping the arsonists.

Greece has called out "arsonist scum" after police made 79 arson arrests over wildfires ravaging the country.
Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias said there had been several attempts by arsonists to start new fires on Mount Parnitha, north-west of Athens.
The blaze is one of hundreds in the nation where wildfires have already killed at least 20 people this week.
"You are committing a crime against the country," Mr Kikilias said.
"Arsonist scum are setting fires that threaten forests, property and, most of all, human lives," Mr Kikilias told Greeks during a televised emergency briefing on Thursday.

In Greece locals have spotted items left in the forests. Some even have caught foreigners starting fires and the police has arrested them. Media are not interested in these stories.
