Time for a shout-out: Who is someone that has been a ‘light’ in your world?
A well known theologian says that an effective Biblical presentation should be practical and relevant. I have followed John and Nancy for at least 15 years, and his sermons and devotionals are both practical and relevant. You have shone light into my life for many years; please keep your light shining.
In addition to become new, The Bible Project with Tim Mackie and Jon Collins . I have learned a great deal from all of you. Also, I have learned from the comments from others at Become New.
When I first became a Christian around 2000, one of the first pastors I listened to was John Ortberg at Heartland church in Rockford IL. I learned so much about what the kingdom of God means and how to live in the Spirit in those sermons as a young Christian. Finding John's messages here again has been such an encouragement to keep seeking and loving God, just as when I first believed. I still remember John preaching on the parable of prodigal son, and he said something like, the greatest words in the whole Bible were, "he ran." God's love is so great. Thank you for continuing to love God and share His love.

Today 50 years ago in 1974, God with His relentless pursuing love chased me down in a movie theatre in Columbus, Ohio. I was the 24 year old manager of that theatre. Through Billy Graham's film “Time to Run” I first heard the Gospel message of God's saving grace for me through His Son's death on the cross and prayed to trust in Jesus as my Savior and the Leader of my life. It is my New Birth Day. He radically turned my life around and I am forever thankful for His daily grace and mercy that guides my journey of faith to become all that He created me to be. Acts 20:24 NLT became my life verse:
“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus-the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.”

Sometimes I think we try to make living this Christian walk much more difficult than it needs to be. "Just do good today; let your light shine today " It's called a Walk because it's a journey - we need to keep moving forward & just be the light in our individual worlds!
My friend Shelley is great at keeping in touch and asking how I'm doing. My husband Nathan is an excellent encourager. My daughter often blesses me with her thoughtfulness and generosity. My son is a source of joy and quite a calming presence in my life.
Growing up my mother would sing the song this little light of mine! Thank God for her and so many years later I can still hear her voice. Thankful for you John and everything you do. Thanks be to God for making you! Going to be a golden rule day here in NY!

My husband, Jim. He’s welcomed me into his life after leaving an abusive marriage. He’s encouraged me to heal and grow, giving me grace when I’m not my best self. ❤️
A close friend who’s been on hospice for a long time. Seeing both her and husband’s light shining during this challenging season!
My first crucial light that brought me out of my personal darkness was my sister Annie. She believed in me and encouraged me when I felt that the family was against me. She has continued to be that person for me, who reflects the love of God - not just to me, but in her world.
God has sent other 'lights' into my world at critical times. Some of them I didn't recognize until later. I call these the fingerprints of God in my life.
My mother! She gave me my belief in God. And she gave me a model to follow.

"... love light shines all around us." Let that light shine! Another song that most everyone will recognize, "Let Your Love Flow." A huge hit in the 1970s by The Bellamy Brothers, but I prefer the Joan Baez version. The next time you hear it, you will feel good about your love light shining.
Sitting here with tears and few words as God has been talking to me about light-and then I watched this...wow...I bless you John for bringing the light of God to me today and lighting me up.

My kids have been a light in my world. John, your raw honesty and practical truth are a breath of fresh air, you so often say things that I’m thinking but am afraid to say. “All glory to God…why don’t you just say thank you….after all you are human and are probably enjoying this…” 🙂
there have been so many, hard to count. I was even blessed to have the woman who ran the children's home I was in (many years prior to knowing about God) be light, which caused me to not go down the wrong path I was headed for.
Your study on light and being the light of the world was very enlightening. I love how you took us from Genesis to Revelation considering the subject of light. It inspires me to be a man of light in my life in world. Thank you
Somehow I’m always surprised at how powerful this kind of encouragement is to give and receive.

Pastor Robert Dove many, many years ago was the one who showed me that Jesus loved and accepted me just the way I was. Pastor Dove’s light shown so brightly even in the storms of his life. But He is in the presence of THE LIGHT now❤

My dad was in the hospital a number of days before he passed. The day he did pass, a friend brought a meal to us. That meant more to me than words can say.

Carmen LaBello was a photo retoucher in advertising. I ask him if he was a CHristian and he said Yeah I am , and I bet my church is better than Your church. I came to Willow Creek. I was living in Evanston at the time I told my wife we have to move to bee closer to this church. So we did . The bonus was on Wednesday night John Ortberg spoke. Two people of great influence on me.
I have to shout out Cam and Tiffany Staman who I worked for and with from 21-23. I have worked in Christian camps and retreats for over a decade and never felt accepted in the same way as I did from them. They were also the ones who first shared John’s ministry with me. I feel like my life is much healthier and Christ filled because of the both of them.

John, kudos on your perseverance and unending pursuit to know Jesus, and make him know! I just recently stumbled back to you and this teaching on the sermon on the mount. It’s been a huge encouragement on how to live in this darkening world with purpose and joy. And also… Kudos on your eagle! I’d probably be a stiff, five iron from 150 yards, but you probably hit a pitching wedge! Thank you brother for your teachings!
My light is my husband. God has blessed me with a man after His heart who sees my light when I don't and deeply stirres my heart with his deep acceptance of me, especially on my grumbley days. Thank you, John and team, for such a wonderful message today.
I picked up 4 pairs of prescription glasses yesterday and all of the lenses were blurred and useless…yes I’m upset! Will have a follow up exam today and an opportunity to subdue my anger and be a light to the examiner.

The KJV gives us the wonderful saying, light under a basket,
Jesus identifies us with Himself when saying that we are the light of the world. We are to be His Light before others because He IS the Light.
