Well how it turned out Jeremy has also become a legend within the village. The outsider who can catch legendary Tiger Fish.
Imagine being that fish and getting patted by 100 people.

As sad as the fish dying is, the fact it made so many people happy and the fact it didn’t go to waste is a good thing in my book.

Jeremy wasn't making it out of that village alive if he let that fish go😂🤣
Jordan b LFC lols thats what he's failing to realize 😂
True, once he realised that he made out that the fish died from stress, and cut the scene where it was banged in the head with a rock. He upholds reputation and people get fed, plus he gets to walk away
Honestly you are true
OH whatever they aren't savages, he's a professional fisherman, he could have caught any number of fish to feed that village if that was the case. The fish wasn't fighting him and a lot of fish don't make it after you bring them in. There are a lot of shots in this show where they cut right as Jeremy puts the fish back in the water before you see them swim away because that fish was probably dead. I'm sure you have no ulterior motive in implying the village would've killed the white man.

Mad respect for Jeremy for the way he handled the entire situation. He truly gave it his best effort to make sure the fish had every chance to survive and even stood up to the villager who just wanted to immediately kill it and after an hour of essentially guarding this fish he then takes the fish personally back to the village and shows how emotional he is over the death of this giant. then when he sees the reaction of the townspeople celebrating that they can eat tonight he knows it at least won’t go to waste. Mad respect.
@Brian Zeigler no. It's a special beast and giant that symbolizes a healthy ecosystem. A god almost, very rare fish, I wouldn't have eaten it. Too much respect for such a beast.
I watched the video too
@Brian Zeigler they did eat it lmao the fish died on its own
mad respect? Uhm you understand that these villagers catch fish for sustenance. North Americans, British and Europeans have this unique concept of "sport" fishing. sorry if you can't wrap your head around catching fish for a purpose other than recreation... but that villager was probably looking at the white guy with tremendous confusion for wanting to release the thing. why would one put another creature through such a traumatic experience just for the sport of it? that's kind of sick and unique to Western cultures.
@@nickloss2377 having respect and not wanting to kill animals is a sick culture? Lol. You're a special dude my guy.

No. He can only speak 4 languages being English,Spanish,Portuguese and French. He always brings a translator if he doesnt know the language of the country that he visits.
@Gilderoy Lockhard 3. My mother tongue, english and japanese. But thats not the problem here. The problem is that many people here are acting like speaking more than 3 languages is considered as a lot. And in this case, when jeremy interact with the locals in the show, they thought that he knows how to speak those languages but in reality,a translator will be tagging along with him during his journeys.
@Stone Welle why? I was just stating a fact.
@@lapsedilationdrive3943 Earlier in this very episode it shows Jeremy touching up on his Lingala, the local trade language in preparation for this. Despite it being called river monsters, Jeremy never treats the fish like monsters. They are not mindless beasts, but rather animals who are trying to survive in their world. They dont got any malice, only survival instincts that can sometime lead to unfortunate ends.

I love this episode so much. Tiger fish are one of the most stunning creatures on this planet, they are hands down my favourite river monster. And I really understand and appreciate the struggle Jeremy had with bringing the fish back to the village. For many of those people it was like bringing a myth into reality, plus an amazing meal for the whole village, plus the only polite way to thank the people who helped in its capture, but at the same time the whole point of the show was to demonstrate how we don't have to kill these magnificent creatures, that our rivers, our planet, is full of these amazing animals that we can adapt to living alongside harmoniously. Just really a beautiful episode.
Amazingly put!
Just imagine being in Jeremy’s shoes, the sadness of seeing the fish die, but then the joy seeing that entire village celebrating having food, and knowing he brought it.

@@samannyyan1 -To be fair, it wouldn’t have been that hard for him to stay a few more hours to catch a few more fish if he let this one go. Just cause he was reluctant to “kill” this one doesn’t mean he wants the village to starve to death.
When I was younger, I never understood why Jeremy always released and didn’t simply eat it (I grew up in Texas with my family who is used to eating everything they catch so it was normal to me) but as I got older I realized why Jeremy always released and cared so much for them. Why I like wade. He has compassion and value the fish life. He must've felt bad that the fish couldn't be saved. Like he said he be happier if the fish could swim away and gave it the best chance. 👌
He failed miserably in helping the fish after almost killing it tho. He should know that a fish needs water to run thru its gills and him holding it still in the water is likely to have caused its condition to worsen.
@@PascalSWE you think in standing there for an hour the biologist wasn’t making sure water was flowing through the gills? Plus it’s a river there was flow in the water.
@@newfie1613 From what we saw in the video he wasnt, in part of the video he even put it on its side with one gill out of the water. That just brought so much more hope to their village. They probably looked at him like an hero and they all were probably hoping that he would save them and bring them something to eat.
Jeremy realises that he's the one who brought this upon the fish. If he didn't catch it, it would've been alive. He also realised that he did something incredible for the villagers who are probably starving.
This was the conflict within him at the time. Probably why he seemed sad and then a bit happy when the children were smiling. Something good came out of it.
you have to remember these people wont "over fish" the creature, there is a more natural and indigenous relationship they have with the surroundings, as Jeremy realized most if not all of them have never even seen this creature before.
Almost in the same way you watch Lions, Wild Dogs, Crocodiles or leopards hunting and you can accept the loss of life in there prey as you understand there is a balance to that ecosystem, same applies here.
Everyone needs to eat at the end of the day. Jeremy fishes for the sport, they fish to live.
I think the village is happy based on tradition and superstition rather than YYAAAYY yummy fish. The man Jeremy was talking to as he was holding this Gish in the water was talking about it being a gift from God and that some Wiseman that blessed them deserved a peace of the flesh for tradition.
@@DesireeEagle If he fished for sport he'd mount the fish on a wall without eating any of it.

He really seems to love listening to people and their stories, loves fishing and everything he does, but when it comes to handling the fish after he caught it, he is still super respectful and considerate of it’s well being and survival. He loves the chase and honors how strong the fish put up a fight. Overall 11/10 guy if you ask me.
you are praising a guy who killed a fish just so he could see it alive? he caught the fish and with his own admission said that him hauling the fish in caused damage that might kill the fish. so he killed the fish for self entitlement just because He wanted to see it. maybe leave the fish alone and it would still be alive.
@@shadowsilverlight1651 oh great you're one of those.
Top bloke
Well done Jeremy! In this instance, you made the right choice Buddy.
I had the privilege of fishing the Amazon jungle with a friend of mine back in the '90s for a few weeks.
We lived with a group of wonderful Villagers and though most of our fish were catch-'n-release, we always kept a couple to bring back to the village for supper before end of day.
These ranged from large Peacock Bass, up to very large catfish and even piranha.
The natives usually scaled and steaked their catches. My friend and I showed them how to fillet, removing all bones, with our Rapala filleting knives.
When we left, as part of our departure "gifts", we gave our Guides our fillet knives, which they absolutely cherished! A truly incredible adventure with MULTIPLE stories attached!!! 😍
Watching Jeremy's adventures, bring back wonderful memories of some of my own wild adventures I was very humblingly able to partake in.
Fishing can become a life-long passion for these very reasons. Thanks so much for sharing with us, Jeremy!!! :)
I’m not gonna lie the more you look at it the more just seems more adorable
Legend has it, that during the worst village famine a man came searching for a monster..
Jeremy here grows respect for the fish because he catches them by hand. He sees and feels their will to live and their strength. The reason he's catching them in the first place is that he admires them as organisms and wants to admire their structure up close, and he also enjoys educating people about marine life. Not only that, but some of these fish aren't exactly common place. That's probably why he was so hesitant about killing the fish. If the fish wasn't already dying of its injuries, Jeremy could have probably caught an equally large but more common fish to give to the village for anyone concerned about them. But, the fish happened to be dying, and there's no sense wasting that good meat.
To anyone confused, I don't think Jeremy was being driven by sentimentality. He just had principals, and when it wasn't practical to let the fish go, he didn't.
I hope when the aliens come and start catching us to feel our will to live and our strength you feel the same way 😅
@@misterpractical someones always gotta be a critic
That goliath tigerfish hit the game winning shot in game 7
Look at how many people were happy and pumped up about the fish. Gotta respect the locals man.
Respect to Jeremy Wade...this show ran for 9 seasons! its not easy to travel to different parts of the world and film this way, let alone catch a huge fish too...hats off, ur a true legend
Jeremy: I'm releasing this fish.
Villager: Bad idea. My people will eat you.
I'm in tears, what an incredibly beautiful animal, his compassion for it was amazing, the sangoma worked his magic and the people got to see, touch and eat a legend......... Probably the best CZcams video I've watched.
When a Crocodile and a Piranha mate… you get a Goliath Tigerfish. LOL!
I want someone to look at me the way Jeremy looks at that dead Goliath Tigerfish.
Teufel Hunden 😂😂😂😂
I really don't want to like your comment because it's exactly at 69😂😂
I feel bad for him. It's like he's holding his dead cat and everyone's slapping it and wants to eat it
First world problems.
Topher D Right.... because countries like Africa don’t have dogs as pets. Get off your high horse. No matter where in the world. People have pets. And they care about them.
bassmaster117 worrying about that fish dying is nothing but first world problems. There’s no comparison between a random fish you caught that has a brain the size of a walnut and a dog you grew up with for 17 years 🤦♂️ the ONLY people complaining about this fish dying are from first world countries. Other countries and their people are starving. They wouldn’t think twice about eating that fish for sustenance. In fact, the villagers there expected to eat the fish and looked at Jeremy like he was insane he wanted to let the thing go. Again... first world problems.
Topher D Well it’s his fish. If you catch it, in my opinion it’s up to you. And he wants to put it back so he can know it probably made more Goliath Tiger Fish. If you just kill everything you find and catch then the population goes down. And then those starving villagers aren’t starving anymore, because their dead.
@@topherd1011 what is first wolrd problem that you keep saying ? I really dont know
4:28 The fish is like "I am NOT having a great time"
I felt bad for the fish until I saw the reaction of the people-That was cool-They truly respect that fish to have that reaction
Jeremy: what a beautiful fish

Imagine caring more about a fish than a whole villages needs
The village wouldn’t have starved if he didn’t catch this fish you complete smoothbrain
@@petaisajoke I didn't say they would stave dumbass, I said he cares more about the fish than feeding the village, I didn't imply they would die without it, learn to read

You played rainbow 6 once and now you’re dumb :(
Jeremy is a class act & a proper gentleman in every way....gotta love the gentleman scholar fisherman
I love those people seeing and touching that old warrior fish like they’re seeing a divine being or something of the spirit world or imagination come to life
But they keep slapping the devine being 😢
dudes so passionate about the sport he didn't wanna feed 50 starving kids wtf 😂
😆😆😆😆
honestly though just placed more value on a fishs life than a village of 200 😂
I would be too a beast like that if he where too live for years too come he could have gotten even bigger
@Pat Mynuts to bad you know nothing of history. Welfare was created for single white women with children in the us lol
@Pat Mynuts Ever heard of sharing xD
If this is the things they find in the water , imagine what else we still haven't discovered yet .
Oh just let them eat the fish. They're obviously in a position to appreciate the meal more than most of us.
Jeremy's respect for animals is legendary 👏
This is the fish I always thought was in the water when I went swimming as a kid.

I don't know man, there were some other top moments in this show.
jeremy wade treats a dead fish with more respect than most people treat eachother nowadays
This guy reminds me of my close roommate from college. Passionate about fishing. Passionate about the preservation and learned of languages. Hi Leopoldo if you're seeing this :D
