- Is Robot Dreams about 9/11?
Robot Dreams has several prominent shots where the camera lingers on the twin towers
And of course there’s repeated use of the song September by Earth Wind and Fire
So is this cute animated film about a dog and his robot friend secretly about 9/11?
Well no. But also kinda yes.
See Robot Dreams isn’t about 9/11 directly, but it is about remembering a past that’s gone now.
It's a commentary on nostalgia and the transient nature of all things
Just like New York is not the same now as it was in the 80s, neither are these characters lives after they get separated.
Nothing lasts forever, but our past shapes who we are and its worth remembering... - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Wow! This short got popular! Would you folks watch a full version of this video? I have a lot more to say on this movie!
I ugly cried with that movie
Yeah, it made me think of all the old friends who I never see anymore and wonder how different they all must be by now… never had a movie make me consider that specific emotion before
@@Storyograph Same here
Same
good short about this subject matter that touches on it just right- the amount of people who focused way too much on the twin towers and not its role in the overall theme of the movie got on my nerves. i think you summed it up just the way the writers would have wanted it to be interpreted.
Missing his boyfriend
Yeah true. I think it can be read either way, but you’re absolutely right
How do you know the Robot was Male?
The robot is genderless.
@@andresvelazquez5922 You're right too! I think there are a lot of ways to interoperate their relationship (platonic/romantic, gender, etc.) and if I did a full length video on this movie, I'd probably go into that. But this time it was just one minute long. I feel like it was all intentionally left ambiguous so people can relate to the feelings of loss and longing in the way that feels true to them.
@@Storyograph Yes, it was made that way so people can identify an own situation of theirs in the situation of Robot and Dog, so it can be understood as a romantic or platonic relationship, even familiar relationship, but depending on what the people think about it
It’s called a companion. A boyfriend would entail romantic and intimate interactions, which their relationship did not experience. Plus the fact that it’s a genderless robot 🤖
It isn't. The graphic novel literally states it is a story about friendship, loneliness and forgiveness. The fact that the Twin Towers appear in the background is just because both the movie and the novel are set up in New York City during the 80s decade. Nothing to do with that tragedy.
They take the meaning of loss/rememberance/ because the audience cannot help but to imbue their presence with that meaning - the idea of a dog missing his best friend + the presence of those towers gives us a third idea - the idealized past. Its no accident that theyre emphasized so many times
@@carlosortegaart You have the right to believe it if you want, but go and read the novel, you may notice the Twin Towers don't really appear as much in it. It may be have been a director's choice in order to add some extra meaning to it alongside many details he added just like the soundtrack and the way some scenes actually develop during the film. Check it out and see it by yourself. Still your opinion is valid, although I just think the decision to show the towers was merely a choice that could have either been made to resemble some consistent aesthetic or to approach to a wider audience considering this is a Spaniard-French produced movie set in the US.
you can read some of the interviews with the director, but they chose to set the movie in new york to greater enhance the themes of nostalgia and a past time that cant be returned to. the twin towers are part of that past that can't be regained, but aren't a major part of the movie as much as something that enhances the theme.
@@goodnightgoodnightgoodnight The novel is also set in New York, the director only said that to make his movie sound even more "artistic" to audiences and clearly he was trying to be relatable to american audiences as well since it is the easier way for western media to be approachable for a "general" public in most countries.
@@m.j.5395 i mean but then why set the movies time to pre-9/11 and to the 80s? wouldnt it create an even greater sense of audience relatability, especially to children (as they are the largest demographic to view animated films) to make it a modern setting, with smartphones and such? it plays deeper on the elements of reflecting upon the past.
also god forbid a director for an animated film want to sound artistic.
I just finished this a few minutes ago and there is a scene where the robot points at the twin towers possibly symbolising a plane
Same, I cried so hard
I love the graphic and the animation very real like human. So touching of the movie sad that the robot never united with his master. The master is so regard and miss him a lot too. Happy is the robot have another master and a happy home. 😌
I hate my past
This movie made me cry majorly for like 10 minutes in total
I love it so much
I'm making a full video about this one right now, and it still gets to me.
“Friend”
Yes. Friend. There’s nothing romantic about their relationship. If you think romantic love is the only type of love, that’s a you problem.
The answer to the question, no, is not about 9/11
I CANT EVEN SEE THIS MOVIE IN MY LOCAL THEATHER, NOR CAN I PIRATE IT OR BUY IT THROUGH ANY PLATFORM 😭😭💀💀
It’s just now coming out and Neon is rolling it out very slowly. A handful of screens in LA and maybe NY. Maybe it’ll expand to other major markets over the next month.
Great short!
And historians will call them--
Friends? 😭
How to say “I’ve never had a friend” without saying it.
Solo un gringo se preguntaría eso, fue hecho por un Español así que ni de chiste el mensaje iba por ahí, simplemente se dio por la ciudad donde se ambienta.
Great movie, would've made me shed a tear if not because of the ending...
historians are already saying they’re just best friends lol
Fair point! I’m actually working on a longer video addressing their relationship and the various ways it can be interpreted. I just picked one interpretation for this short, but looking at the comments, I probably picked the wrong one for most people. 😅
EU haciendo que todo trate sobre ellos :
Es su historia, pueden hacer con ella lo que sea, aparte me parece un lindo guiño sobre las torres gemelas, trayendo nostalgia a los newyorkinos…
I havemt seen thr movie but by listening to you i already wanna cry😂
Why "americans" want to make everything about themselves??
Please, Thomas Jefferson didn’t bare knuckle brawl with King George just for us to be called "americans"! We much prefer the term "United-States-A-Roonies" the way our forefathers stated in The Declaration of Independence.
@@Storyographyou said it parner!
You know the movie is set in the USA and the movie was based on a story written by an Americans right?
@@StoryographI thought the offical term was “capitalist pigs”? My apologies 😔
I am still hoping I get a chance to see this movie
Quick question: what streaming services is this on? I rlly wanna watch it (also rlly cool vid!)
I think it's only in select theaters right now, but hope it streams soon! I really want more people to see it!
@@Storyograph Thanks! Lol idk where it’s at around my parts, but I’ll see
Literally pointless video
These people are insane
this is before 9/11
How to watch this?
Wow
Is inception about President Xi?
It's a rip-off of anime film Paprika
Anyone know what the song is in the background?
It's the middle part of "Jupiter" from "The Planets" by Gustav Holst
What If 9/11 didnt happen in this universe, they dont have those political figures who contribuite what happened happen
It takes place in 1980s
Si paso. Una alegoría que encuentro con la historia de la película y las torres gemelas es la siguiente : de dos seres que se suponía debían permanecer siempre juntos, pero que a causa de las circunstancias terminan separando
