- On the east coast of Scotland, crisp, clear winter days are not as rare as you may think, and we use this one to have a crack at 'The Six Harbours Walk' which was a subscriber recommendation and a lot harder than we expected!
Join us as we arrive in beautiful Portsoy before hiking the coast westbound all the way to Buckie, passing some absolutely gorgeous harbours and scenery along the way. The official distance of this walk is 15 miles (24km) although with a detour and a lot of running about, I'm pretty sure we went a good bit further than that.
Filmed on Monday 13th February 2023.

Hi, I’m Steve, a travel reviewer from Scotland. Join me on my adventures as I discover my own country, often visiting places for the first time, so hopefully it's as much of an eye-opener for you as it is for me! Don't expect expert opinion, just a very honest journey of discovery. Sometimes featuring my intrepid sidekick Alicja, sometimes featuring adventures beyond the borders of Scotland. Enjoy!

This coastline is sooooo beautiful! Stunning views!
You look familiar 🧐 I’ve seen you somewhere 😁
Please make your own videos
would be epic ps I love Steve
Much respect to you two. Coastal walking is stunning but much harder than you'd think, that 15 miles plus ascent and descent is probably equivalent of 20+ regular miles. Really interesting little harbours and rock features. I do love Alicija's Polish/Scots accent too 🥰
Thanks so much from us both mate! Aye, it sure was more of a struggle in reality :D
Such a glorious day for a stroll. Thanks for taking us along. I'll buy the next ice cream round!
Really enjoyed this video mate. The weather and scenery is absolutely second to none! The shot at the end of the video of the sun was top notch 🏴☀️
Cheers Arron! I'm glad we made it just as the sun was dropping, can't imagine some of those paths in the dark :D
I was literally up here on Tuesday! Never went to all six but we done Cullen to Portsoy and back after watching your last video of this coast! Gorgeous part of the world, that doesn’t seem to get much love!
Thanks again, guys!
Haha no way! Thanks so much for walking it again with us :D
How lucky are we Steve to live in such a beautiful place here in Scotland and in the UK x great video certainly has put me in the mood for a wee trip x
Cheers Sandra! We sure are and it makes me think we need to get out and discover more of these lesser known trails
What a lovely scenic video Steve and Alicia. Nothing beats our Braw and Bonnie Scotland 👍💙🏴
Cheers Wendy! It was such a joy doing this walk in the middle of winter!
Thanks for taking us on yet another beautiful marathon of a walk! Hats off to you both as thats a long, long walk, stunning coastline and harbours, wish Id half of your energy! Hope you both got and enjoyed your takeaway,it was well deserved x
Ha we both polished off a takeaway in no time at all. Inhaled rather than eaten :) Thanks Isobel!
I like to watch Steve and your partner and you have a wonderful walk round Scotland and the mountains and walk ways and the beach is beautiful and nice and sunny and peaceful thanks Steve
Thanks Elaine! It was a beautiful day and I'm so glad we squeezed everything out of it :)
Stunning views of stunning sea villages. As a Scot I am ashamed that as far as I can remember I never visited any on those places. But the design and style of the harbours and gable end houses is just ubiquitous. Well done.
Cheers Alex! Oh don't feel bad, we were the same to be honest, but definitely a worthy addition to the videos list and a good old race against the sunset :)
Steve, wanted to let you know I just finished the walk. Thanks to your video. Beautiful scenery, we got lucky with the weather and saw dolphins as well.
Amazing Martin! Well done!!!! It's a tough old walk eh? Glad you saw some dolphins too, superb timing! :)
That was breathtaking Steve. You nailed the weather and that sunset was unreal so I must have a ride along that coast myself someday. I love it when you film these sort of walks as you and Alijca always put your heart and soul into it. A cracking day out 👍
Cheers mate! We were happy to squeeze everything out of that glorious day, and so much more to see on that coastline, well worth a look. Have a great weekend!
Thanks Steve. Another fantastic video with such amazing scenery. You both compliment each other so well, and it's always entertaining watching your adventures.
Thanks so much Bryce!
Amazing. I feel like I could smell the sea. thank you for this trip in Scotland, which I love very much
Thanks Laura! It was a fun day out, but boy did we sleep well that night :D
What a beautiful coastline. Thank you for taking me there.
An absolute pleasure!
I was lucky enough to spend many holidays in Buckie. When I was a teenager in the 1950s I loved the place it was so quiet and peaceful apart from the pub at the weakend the pub was called craigenroan it was a fantastic 😊place it’s well worth a visit
Such a beautiful part of the world. Upon retiring as a Captain in the Merchant Navy my Great Uncle became the harbour master at Buckie. He was also coxswain of the lifeboat. Another very enjoyable video.
Nice! And it was a beautiful sunset as we arrived there!
As I sit on my balcony on the ocean in Perth (australia), sipping my wine watching the sun go down after a glorious summer day, taking in all the beautiful scenery of your fabulous walk....I ponder........how the blazes did you get back to your car!
Love so much your travel journeys, Scotland is such a beautiful place, I love it!
Haha love it Mairi :D Enjoy that wine!
They took the bus Mairi. Info at the end of the video.
These beautiful beaches, villages and harbors makes me want to move up there, Gorgeous and the views 😍
Catching up Steve, so interesting, not a part of Scotland we know. Thanks both.
You both have such great adventures. Another great video. Well done Steve and Alicjia 👍
Thanks so much Scott, really enjoyed this one and glad we (just about) made it in daylight!
Glad to see you took my advice and did the walk. I forgot to mention it is a bit of a trek! 😂 Also, the signs on the buildings at Portsoy harbour are left over from the filming of Peaky Blinders season 6.
Ahhhh I wish I'd known this! Brilliant! And what a great suggestion Peter :)
7 months ago I previously visited this wonderful tube you both created its 3degc at 7-35,am in te Awamutu NZ Thank you
Steve & Alitcia
Kind regards David
Absolutely a stunning video again. @3:15 you are jealous about the camper but I am jealous about the both of you. For living in scenic Scotland. 😄 Keep healthy and keep those videos coming. Greetings from the Netherlands
Cheers Henk, have a great weekend!
What beautiful weather and spectacular scenery!
Greta day for it eh Derrick!
Today's six harbor ramble clearly demonstrates one of Murphy's most well-known laws: "Everything takes longer than you think it will." All in all, you did well, Steve and Alicja! 👍👍
Thank you for bringing back memories of my childhood your presentation is down to earth I spent my early in Newcastle with trips north into Scotland and across to the Peak District. Now I live the other side of the world but I still my old home
Steve, I discovered your channel a few weeks ago and I’m enjoying my armchair travel with you. I particularly liked this one because i spent time in Buckie back in the seventies - it was a very friendly village then and looks quite modern now. Hi to the Buchan family 😊
Glad you are back to your walks and drives around Scotland. I’m afraid I have not been watching your trips abroad, .I’m only interested in Scotland, because I am very widely traveled ( I am 82) . I am an expat that have lived in Vancouver for 56yrs , but never traveled much in the land I was born . Too busy working , so now I go back every year and do tours . I am very interested Scotland as my brother lives on the Isle of Skye , my husband’s ancestors came form Buckhaven , and I was able to take some of my husband’s ashes there , when I was on Rabbies tour. They even played”, The flowers of Scotland” when I got back on the coach
, very emotional .❤️🇨🇦
Thanks so much Jean, and totally understandable. I will keep mixing in my other adventures as well (because I love doing them) but there are a number of people who only watch the Scottish ones and in a way that makes me proud :D
You found and showed us another set of hidden gems. Blue skies and stunning villages. And your humour makes it all the more entertaining. 🥰
Cheers Michael!
A beautiful walk. Going on my Scotland bucketlist 🏴👍🏻
Oh well worth adding this coast to the list :)
Hello from Australia.I really enjoyed the video, thanks so much to both of you for showing the beautiful coastline of Scotland. Some of those beaches are a match for anything we have in Australia. Can’t wait until I can get over to Scotland to see the land of my father with my family.Cheers to both of you.
All the best getting over for a visit David, maybe we can do a house-swap :D
Fantastic job Steve & Alicja. You deserve way more than takeaway. @29:01 = breathtaking. Thank you as always for taking us along.
Cheers Phil! Aye, the takeaway was inhaled pretty quick :D
I grew up in this area of Aberdeenshire and watching this video brought back a lot of memories . Your videos are fantastic , please keep making them !
Thanks so much for coming along to some familiar places!
That was AWESOME guy's. I could never do that walk now...Thank's for sharing it with us...:):):)
I hope Alicja feet were ok this time.
In that other video with all that trouble with her feet I really felt for her...:(:(:(
Cheers Harry, aye we learned some lessons from the last one and all was good :)
What beautiful scenery - thanks for taking us on the walk with you!🤩 We had the easy part 😂
Absolutely pleasure, thank you!
Portsoy is really good. Great history of smuggling...Thank you both.
Oh need to read up on that sounds right up my street (as a story, I'm not a smuggler) :D
Love this Steve & Alicja , great job showing off a lovely part of the world 👍
Cheers Jim! A cracking day oot!
@@steve-marsh a long day but a very rewarding one I'm sure Steve , keep up the good work 👍
Thankyou from England beautiful couple by god you too fit as fiddles much love enjoyed very much ❤❤❤ love from Minnie.
You always never fail to produce a stunning walk along the Scottish coast line with its hidden out of the way places Steve, so much beauty a real paradise as you say, although Alicja didn’t want an ice cream when you found the shop open, she sure did enjoy what was left of yours, but it did look and sound delicious, i always have to go hunting in my kitchen when I watch your videos Steve, I want an ice cream now, but have three temporary fillings so it maybe a bit of a challenge, I might just risk it! thanks 🙏 for an interesting 15mile walk 🤗
Haha go for it and mix some blueberries in for the true Cullen experience :)
@@steve-marsh I went for it, it was ‘Mackies’ traditional dairy ice cream, with cherries 🍒 from the freezer, when your several miles from the nearest shop, you can’t be choosy! 😋
Lovely to be taken on walks I couldn't do myself, or maybe one day if I get new knees! It's nice to recognise places you've taken us already, I'm with you on the Cullen skink! Thanks for a fab trip out you two xx
A beautiful walk I so enjoyed seeing the little villages and the sea views, thanks for taking me along it was marvellous, as always stay safe and cheers.
Cheers Simon! A real gem of a walk (despite how challenging it was) :)
Great stuff you two, thoroughly enjoyed this one, stunning scenery & great commentary as usual, cheers again
Cheers Pete, appreciate it mate!
Great walk guys - I think I do see a fish supper for your evening to eat - definitely deserve it washed down by an irn bru 😅 - the east coast can be so beautiful and so when weather is not so ‘Dreek’ go for it ! all these wee towns reminds me of Local Hero movie ! as the Americans say ‘so cute’ - go put your feet up guys and get some rest - big 👍 on this one !
Cheers Fred! Almost right, the supper was haggis :)
Stunning views and beautiful scenery
That looks like a great hike. Coastal scenery is spectacular around Scotland. When I went to Portknockie, to see Bow Fiddle Rock, it certainly wasn't as nice weather as you got.
Fabulous. Really enjoyed this Steve & Alicja, thank you for taking us along on your walk. Stunning coastline and villages ❤
Thanks Judy!
Such spectacular scenery! Scotland has so much to offer!
After such a long walk i would have been expecting a brass band welcome in Buckie. Another great video Steve.
They got bored waiting and went home :)
Another incredible video guys. Those sunset shots in particular. Some day, I will get there.
Cheers Marie! We sure did pick a good day for it!
Nice walk, lovely day for Feb.
So very well done guys 😎.
That should be a major walk in Scotland 🏴,
Beautiful Scotland once again 🤠
Totally agree Douglas, cheers!
We had a holiday in Portessie in the early 70s.The great thing about that coastline is it's exactly the same 50 years later.I must have a run up there on the motorbike soon.
Very true John! And aye, get yourself back up! :)
Loved this. My cousin use to have the Pub in Findochty. 🏴🇦🇺You must come Down Under one day and do the Nullarbor 🤗
Hi Steve,
I just found your videos and would like to say how much my wife and I are enjoying them.
I was born in Glasgow and can relate to a lot of video's about Glasgow.
The boat trip on the Waverley to Rothesay was one of my favorites.
Looking forward to more of your trips around the kingdom of UK.
You are a fine photographer and commentator.
Keep up the great work.
Cheers,
George
Thank you both so much! And welcome to the channel :) I have lots of ideas for Scottish content this year, so hope you'll stick around :) All the best
Simply stunning
Absolutely stunning 😍
Lovely sea beautiful cottages and I love the dolphin early on
Cheers John, gorgeous coastline!
Beautiful scenery
Beautiful coast lines
What a stunning walk
Hi Steve!
Thank you!
Fantastic!!
I heard the chopper then a gull appeared. Some trick that guys! And I enjoyed your labours too. Thanks for sharing.
Haha cheers Peter! :D
Beautiful place
❤
Stunning looking walk!
Great video of a lovely coastline. I know the coastline and these villages pretty well but have only driven between them (many times), not walking. You two have filled in the gaps in a wonderfully entertaining way👍👏!
Loved it.
Thanks Doris!
When it feels like I'm there with you, that's when I know you are doing an awesome job bringing us these tours. A true highlight getting to know another part of the country I've not been too. 👍
Thanks so much Alan! :)
Got me feeling homesick!!
An excellent walk and video. Thank you Steve and Alicja. That shell pile on the path is interesting. We have similar artifacts here in Australia. They call them shell middens and some date back thousands of years. The aborigines knew the best times to harvest them and spent time in a variety of places leaving the shells behind as they moved on. I reckon I could do that walk in 6 days, because I'd be so distracted by the views, the birds and seaweeds, rockpool life, I would have to stop over night in each harbour.
Beautiful, facinating nature! Again, thank you for lifting my mood, guys.
What a privilege it must be to live in some of those cosy stone houses nestled up against the harbours.
So true Mark! Incredible coast!
Yet another excellent one
Thanks so much Peter!
Wonderful video again great scenery 👍
Did Sandend to Buckie walk last year and that was a fair walk with all the ups and downs. It’s a cracking, well done.
Cheers Colin!
Great stuff. We found Sandend Caravan Park last year and had a few trips up there in our Motorhome. Lovely place.
Great vlog Steve 👌
Cheers Simon! :)
The beach at Sandend is where some of the film ‘Local Hero’ was made . The red telephone box in the film is at a Pennan which is in the same area but not on the costal path.
Great walk and video have stayed in that area many times it’s very pretty especially the abandoned lido at Tarlair near Macduff
Beautiful walk, the scenery is gorgeous. And, fair play for making it to the end in the daylight, especially while also filming. I know, as a photographer how short the daylight hours are in February at our latitude.
Oh you're so right mate, and imagine trying to walk some of those paths in the dark! It could've been Ludza all over again :D
I loved this video Steve. Brought back many happy memories. I used to regularly stay in this area, with relatives in Sandend. It's a beautiful part of the world. Findlater Castle was a favourite. On the journey up to the area, we used to drive through the Spittal of Glenshee. We always passed a statue of an elderly couple on a bench , entitled 'Tommy and Wife'. I watched the video you made going through this area to Aviemore and you didn't mention it. I wondered if it was still there. We love your videos. Keep up the good work!
Another stunning video, Steve. Our feet are hurting just from watching it! You both did really well walking so far. What a beautiful part of the coast it is. Thanks again, can't wait for the next.
Thanks so much guys! It was a fun day but boy did we sleep well that night!
Lovely Steve
Cheers Paul!
Splendid!
Thanks :)
Looks a nice area to visit with great views and blue sky, Never been to this area of Scotland
Well worth a look if you get the chance on a day like this :)
Thanks that was an absolutely beautiful video 👍
Our pleasure James! :)
Another inspiring day out...thanks
It really was good to fill the lungs with all that fresh coastal air!
Another great video Steve!
That looks like it was a really enjoyable walk.
Cheers AJ! It really was!
Another great video. I need to go back to Scotland. I've been to Edinburgh a few times and loved it, but I want to see more of the country. Glad I discovered your channel over the holidays and look forward to the videos when they come out on Saturdays. Cheers.
Thanks so much! Edinburgh is spectacular, but it's always worth getting out of the city if you have the time :)
Looks like a cracking walk great views
Walking allows one to truly appreciated the beauty of this coast. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely loved this. So pretty. Thank you!
Our absolute pleasure Maggie!
What a stunning walk ❤
Even better than we expected Mark!
Steve absolutely!
Beautiful walk. Thanks for sharing guys.
Our absolute pleasure :) Thanks for coming along!
Well done you two! I'm glad you enjoyed my favourite part of Scotland and had a beautiful day for it. The video finale was stunning!
Another great video Steve showcasing this beautiful part of the world and making me reach for the Right Move app to find our dream house (again!). Fantastic weather too, cheers 😊👍
Cheers Mark! I'd love to live up on that coast!
Mate you 2 timed it perfect, to finish your walk. gorgeous
So true mate! Thanks!
Findlater castle it'll be nice when it's finished, be quite a good fixer-upper lol
Haha I'm up for it if there's a B&Q nearby
Tremendous! What a beautiful part of Scotland and fair play to you both with that trek.
Cheers Tim! Was up in your part of the world 2 days ago :)
@@steve-marsh excellent! I hope you got decent weather. Will there be a video on its way?
@@Timstravels01 Sure will mate, but it'll take me a few weeks :D
