- When was the last time you visited your local library? You might be surprised by what’s happening if you haven’t been recently. Ciara Eastell makes a strong case for these places of transformation and possibility, arguing that in an era of fake news and loneliness, we need our libraries more than ever.

At TEDxExeter 2019 our theme was The Art of the Possible. We’re living in an age of polarity where many communities are feeling more and more divided, against a backdrop of increasingly populist politics which risk dividing us even further. Our talks offer an opportunity to pause and consider the future we want to create, the possibilities that may be obscured in the busyness of our everyday lives, and how we might get there. Exeter Library is absolutely brilliant - a really welcoming hub for everyone, which allows all its city folk to have dreams, and find others to share them with, or just sit alongside, knowing we’re all on our separate but connected quests.
watching this talk as a librarian is somehow so hopeful but sadly here in our country, the library was considered not a foundation for learning, rather than a place that holds books merely. it just sad also that our profession has been stereotypically judged like a boring, and useless profession in the academic environment. I still hope somehow that soon the Philippines will see the future of having a library as a surmount element for changing perspective and to enrich the knowledge.
Hey I'm also a librarian from the Philippines! let's not lose hope brother. Change will definately come.
Alito Battle Angel i do hope, am actually starting my self as a model of change in my students so that they can see tht we are not what they think of us 🙂

The same we feeling in India.
I just love this talk!
I love libraries so freaking much. My library even lets us request books that might not be in the system and they try to get it for us. That's so nice of them!
Thank you teacher . I am honored to belong to this specialty.
