- 1/1/24 The Ultimate Controller Support Settings for Ready or Not | Launch 1.0.
I have created a layout on Steam that I truly think will be helpful to most players that allows you to perform most functions in the game with ease. I want to provide an explanation here of all the button mappings and functions so you can learn to use this pretty simple controller preset as quickly and as easily as possible. PLEASE read the directions carefully and make sure you understand what everything does and give it a test run before asking questions or criticizing. I'm always happy to help and respond to feedback.
FIRST you need to go into the options menu in game, then to controls, movement, and toggle a few controls here.
DO NOT change the key to trigger these commands as the controller settings are mapped to those buttons. Simply clear that key and then map that key to the toggle functions below.
Change crouch to toggle crouch, change walk to toggle walk.
Change lean left to toggle lean left, and lean right to toggle lean right.
If you prefer to hold these buttons that's perfectly fine but I find that most players, especially while leaning would prefer it to be a toggle so they can fine tune movement and aiming without holding down the thumbstick.
Here is a detailed explanation of the layout:
Left Stick - Move
Click Left Stick - Lean Left
Right Stick - Look (When in menus the right stick is used like a mouse to move around RT to select what the mouse is hovering over)
Click Right Stick - Lean Right
Left Trigger - Aim
Right Trigger - Fire Weapon (When in menus RT is used to select whatever the right stick/mouse is hovering over)
A - Interact/Yell for compliance
B - Crouch (Hold B to toggle Walk)
X - Reload (Hold X to check magazine/ammo)
Y - Switch between primary/secondary weapon, also used to Ready Up
D-Pad
Up - Laser/Flashlight (Hold to equip Nightvision)
Down - Long Tac (Like Breach Shotgun/Mirror Wand) (Hold to use Misc Tool, like Zip Ties)
Left - Fire Rate Toggle (Hold to use Canted sight)
Right - Grenade/Tactical (Hold to equip Tactical Device)
LB - Issue Default Command (contextual based on what the player is looking at)
YOU MUST HOLD LB to bring up command menu and CONTINUE TO HOLD LB to select commands.
You can now press RB to Switch Teams that you issue commands to. (Red, Blue, Gold)
Hold the Select/Back button to Queue commands.
WHILE HOLDING LB you can issue ALL the commands on the menu as follows:
Up on D-Pad: Command 1
Right on D-Pad: Command 2
Down on D-Pad: Command 3
Left on D-Pad: Command 4
Y: Command 5
B: Command 6
A: Command 7
X: Command 8
Keep in mind YOU MUST CONTINUE TO HOLD LB TO USE AND ISSUE ORDERS IN THE COMMAND MENU.
The reason I chose to lay this out in this format was it was easy to memorize the numerical commands being located in a clockwise fashion. Command 1 at 12 o'clock, Command 2 at 3 o'clock, Command 3 at 6 o'clock, and Command 4 at 9 o'clock and so on for commands 5-8.
RB - Melee/Throw (Hold to quick throw grenade)
Start Button - Drop Chemlight (Hold to bring up Pause Menu)
Select/Back Button - View Cams (Hold to open Tablet)
You can continue to press the Select/Back Button to toggle through the Cameras of each member of your team.

Please follow the steps in the video and in the description closely. If you miss one step it could cause things to not work for you. Make sure the game, Steam, and your controller are updated. Make sure you are using a modern controller, Xbox or PlayStation is fine. Make sure the battery is charged or you are using a wired controller on your PC. A faulty or uncharged battery, or bad connection could cause issues like stick drift. If you are having problems with stick drift make note that there is nothing wrong with my layout as it has been tested by myself and others for well over 20,000 hours in-game. I have no issues with the layout with the settings I have calibrated but if you are having issues you can go into the layout, select the thumbstick(s), click the settings gear, and toggle deadzones, sensitivities, and response curve of each thumbstick to your liking. Everyone's preferences are different and that could change based on your controller, the condition it is in, and your playstyle. Thank you for using my layout and enjoy Ready or Not.
Have you heard any issues with the character moving automatically and not stopping once the left joystick is activated in any direction? Been having that issue using this controller build with the actual steam deck pad and a controller. Everything else is perfect.

That's why I was so adamant about please listen carefully to the instructions and give yourself time to learn because it does seem tricky but once you run a few missions and get used to it, you'll commit it to memory! Glad this helped! I know it's done wonders for me in my experience of playing but it's good to see others benefit and enjoy it too!

@@5hrimp_Nachos I've been working on it and testing a few weeks. Steam doesn't really have lots of videos detailing what certain maps and commands mean so I had to watch lots of videos that only helped a little. I'm glad it worked out

@@AaronShack64 I did search by your name, but not the number shown in the link. I have it on the Xbox elite2 and it’s a blast, but then I go back to the Deck and I’m completely lost with the actual layout I’m using
@@09monos Once you've selected it on a Steam profile it should have it set as your chosen layout whether you're on your PC or Steamdeck. I didn't make this layout with Steamdeck in mind but it all works just fine.

My problem is as fun as this game looks, I have a mild TBI and don't know if I have the ability to learn it all. I will have to watch some videos and see. I have played 80-90 hours of Elden Ring and am only 17% progress and that is with walkthrough watching. This is overwhelming to me but fun. Thanks for the hard work.

Glad it helped! There should be a sensitivity adjustment in the layout settings on steam. Unfortunately that's all you get until there is official controller support. 👍

Eh unfortunately... The T key on the keyboard does that. I was struggling with mapping more functionalities to it. Double tapping wasn't accurate enough so I went with presses and holds. I'll see if I can fix that.

Hey! Your layout is amazing! I wasnt sure about buying the game since I dont like playing on keyboard/mouse. I bought it after watching this video and it really works well! One issue that I have been facing is that I cant seem to be able to crouch. Everytime i press the "O" button (I am playing it with PS4 controller) my character would try crouching and stand back up again!
Ah you forgot the section of the video where I mention to go into settings of Ready or Not and change crouch to toggle. So you don't have to hold it. You keep it as the same key on the keyboard so you don't mess up the controller layout.

Great job. You should take some guidance from FFXIV. I'll try this layout out soon. But a couple things:
Have you tried using Dual Sense 5? The touchpad is great for simulating a mouse. The touchpad itself also has at least 2 more buttons, left and right touchpad. Maybe holding those buttons too. Also, have you considered using LB as a modifier button? L1 (LB)+L3 and L1 (LB)+R3 gives you a few more buttons to close cams, etc.
Finally, someone in the modding community just needs to make an alternative command layout interface in the cross format to match, like with FFXIV.
I definitely like that idea but not everyone uses that controller, a lot of players on PC have Xbox style controllers so I wanted something universal for now. 👍
I don't really play Final Fantasy XIV so I can't really help with that.

Right so this button layout is absolutely perfect for me on steam deck i just have 2 questions please if you could answer, do i have to use a pad e.g xbox pad or can i just use the control layout on the steam deck and also what is the button to heal yourself haha. Thankyou, excellent layout though!
It turns out the steam deck does work just fine as does Xbox and Playstation controllers. There really isn't healing yourself in this game. But when you are bleeding, a prompt will come up on the screen asking you to press the F key. Which is basically the interact button which would be the a button on an Xbox controller or the x button on a PlayStation controller. Just make sure you follow all the steps in the video and in the description down below. Hope you enjoy!

Howdy! Thanks a lot for putting the work in to make this guide, and get the controller config up on steam, I have been attempting to get it to work on my Elite series 2, which, some layouts do. I really want to use the rear paddles. Specifically the upper paddle for fire. Is there a proper way to do this? Would I have to do anything in the xbox accessories app ? I did try to change the button assignments in the app but it didn’t not do the trick... then I went into the steam controller config, after loading a community layout and I am not getting things working. I did do the changes in game controller config as per the instructions you provided in the description... which worked. The. I thought I was smart and made some more changes.... the. Everything seemed to be wrong... let me know if there is a way to get the paddles to be useful... I appreciate everything you’ve don’t and any advise you can provide... thanks! Will hit the like button
Upper right paddle for fire
I don't think you're able to map paddles on Steam, Xbox Accessories app is your best bet but not guaranteed to work. 👍 wish I could help more!

Any advice for reducing/lowering ADS sensitivity with the controller? If you lower the right stick sensitivity in Steam settings, you’re main look around will be way too slow.
Steam layout, adjust right stick sensitivity is your best bet until official controller support is provided.

Feels good to me. You can go into the the Steam controller settings and change it if you need to. It felt natural on the default setting I have for me though!

Press t to toggle cams off. As far as toggling other commands, I covered that in the video. Hope that helps.

@@rextar111 No. I use Discord so I deemed it unnecessary. You can remap RB which is the grenade toss to Push to Talk if you want.

You can do that but I opted not to as I'd either chat without push to talk or on discord

@@TheOtherGinger Hmmm I'm not sure about Steam Deck, you do usually have to turn down settings for battery life and to prevent overheating. Just keep that in mind. I play Helldivers 2 on Steam deck and if I wanna make it through several matches I have to plug in and lower settings a bit.

Hi Arron. I just did everything in steam but when i clicked on to look in the community list i did not see yours, just alot of others that nobody has downloaded. I dunno what to do now. So I just tried somebody elses and it did'nt do anything.

It should work. Not sure why you would be having issues with the left analog stick if your controller is up to date and you've downloaded the layout properly.
Hey Arron. I've been wanting to use this game for a while now but seen it had no controller support and I am useless with the keyboard and mouse. I have just watched your video but I am still not sure what to do and would appreciate your help etc. When i open the game in steam with controller checked in Big Picture mode in steam and your controls will be automatically set within the game, so i just have to basically learn the controls for each command that you have mapped? I am new to all this gaming thing and not 100% exactly what to do. If Its a case of just opening the game in big picture mode and learning the controls for each command that you have mapped well, I should be ok. Just give us a bit of a start on things. Thanks. That's indeed all you have to do if you followed the steps in the video. Give yourself time to learn the controls and test things out and it should be fine. I'm getting better the more I play the game myself.

So you just start the game & turn your controller on? Then follow everything you did?
I would make sure your controller is on/plugged in/synced with the layout downloaded and selected before starting the game. Follow the video and it should work. 😁👍

It might be compatible. I could definitely look into it since I have a Steam Deck and could map controls to the extra paddles and touch pads. 🤔

once you open the cam views with back button, there is no way to close the cams with the controller right? gotta hold T on the keyboard right?
I believe so. I have so many keybinds in this layout that was just a tradeoff for me that I didn't feel was necessary. 👍

I prefer controller for most games and I know some folks can't do keyboard for medical reasons as well so I'm glad I could help everyone in some way. The devs aren't working very fast on official support so something had to be done. 😅👍

I'm not sure. I would make sure the game, steam, your controller are all updated. Maybe reselect the layout, make sure all the in-game settings match what I say to do in the video. I have had some controllers have stick drift only in certain games so it wouldn't be unusual. You might try another controller if you can. I've not had any issues like that.

I opted not to do that since my friends and I just use discord. You can map RB to push to talk if you really need it. Sacrifice the quick toss grenade.

Not sure, I would check controls and in-game mappings, make sure nothing is changed and that you followed every step in the video.

Not sure if you're trolling but it might? I would imagine you'd have better luck with a more modern controller.
not trolling i actually bought one because there cheaper but im thinking of getting a cheap xbox one controller since the logitech barely even works on games

Well it should work in theory but it is a very old and dated controller that might not have compatibility with modern games.
Any tips regarding coms? I always get unalived trying to toggle voice chat on the keyboard. This mapping is awesome
You could remap RB from grenade toss to push to talk. I chose not to since I use discord to chat with teammates and don't use push to talk in games.

Does controller mess with voice attack I jiat got this today and the voice attack works sometimes and other time nothing could it be my voice I'm from uk 😅 and love the controller setup I've got it thank you and what do you rec for mouse senstivy I need some thing not to fast but so I can can look round corners properly 😅😅
I just use the settings I have in my layout. Not sure what you mean by voice attack but everything works as intended.
