That’s the one takeaway from New Yankee Workshop?
Norm is giving you a stern look… through his safety glasses.
and he's looking over the top of the instruction manual for his radial arm saw.
My takeaway was that nails were only used to secure things until the glue dried lol
I love achievable, small scope projects like this every once and awhile. Makes me energized to go out and make something.
Love it! Don't underestimate the appeal of simple project videos like this. Probably the first time I saw an amazing looking (+functional) project and thought "I can absolutely do that with my contractor table saw and other tools in my garage". An eventual playlist for this simple tools series would be great.
Ok last comment. Having an AirBNB full of stuff you made that fans can rent just to geek out and look at first hand is a brilliant idea. Also that bathroom cabinet design is amazing.
That takes a huge confidence level! You know your fans are going to be looking closely at everything to see where you might have made a mistake! 😂😂
Great little project. Well done as always. Love the change of pace. Thanks
It looks so great! Thank you for sharing! I appreciate you for showing us how you’re doing everything in this house. One love
It is a great feeling when whatever you make comes out perfect the first time. Great job.
Great build. I'd put a taller mirror to match the height of the medicine cabinet
Air Bnb, I'd avoid too many easily breakable items. I've heard nightmare stories about people who rent these places.
I love when you do these kind of simple projects. They inspire me to do more woodworking projects around the house.
I love it. This preserves the true essence of DIY and the reason many of us watch in the first place: pure creativity and resourcefulness without the need for extravagant workshops.
Simple, clever, gorgeous. A true Picciuto project!
Awesome video! Did it with budget tools and kept the design an build simple but it was set off nicely with the casing and glass 👍
That turned out soooo beautiful - I have some of those Wen tools so am so pleased you got fantastic results!
So nice. Beautiful piece by one of my favorite makers.
Lol... your "push block" is probably more expensive than my table saw... the cherry wood is definitely more expensive! Love your video's, keep them coming!
Stunning medicine cabinet, Dave! Really amazing work! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Nice build & that open cabinet turned out great David! Well executed! 👍👍🔨🔨
Nice, simple, clean project. Looks perfect in that corner. I bought the Wen oscillating spindle sander a couple of months ago. 4 out of 5 stars. I'm not mad at it. Thanks for sharing!
I’m really enjoying this series dude. Great concept 🤙
Looks great as always
Love the label you made on the wood finish, very cool
Love your content and the house as it comes along.
This also works behind a door in small spaces. Love the cherry, my favorite wood. One small suggestion since this is a rental. Put a small piece of trim to hold in the shelves. With wood movement it may not always be a snug fit. Love your videos, your one of the few youtubers that has stuck your roots with actually build stuff. Thank you for great continent!
budget friendly except the push block and miter guage 😊.
Looks good Dave!
Looks great!
Nice work... great detail to information
I hate to be that guy, BUT.... Shouldn't those shelves be made out of tempered glass?
Awesome build! I love the aesthetics, use of simple tools, and your presentation style!
I was thinking the same thing. I ordered some from a glass shop for my medicine cabinet. They were 1/4" thick with a polished edge. Of course you need to order the correct size since it can't be cut after tempering.
Thinking the same about the glass. There is a 96.73% chance that it is going to get broken.
So I've been working on (ie. just thinking about it real hard) building in a medicine cabinet so this video might just end up being pretty useful to me!
Very cool weekend project. Looks great.
But I made it on a Tuesday. 😉
Something that I love about your channel, compared to all the other woodworking channels out there, is your use of color and camera style. The last shot of the video with the bright orange medicine cabinet, contrasted by the baby blue walls, in addition to your orange shirt and blue pants is the perfect example. Very pleasing to the eye.
Nailed it! 😅
Love the wood spirit name
I was born and raised in Toledo! I now live in Virginia but I grew up on Brigham street right off of manhattan where the two apartment complex are(if they are still there ha). It’s been a couple years since I’ve been back. I think you said the house is in point place?! I had family that lived there also. Keep up the good work!
Nice job!!
Love these videos😊
cool trick cutting shelf dados together
I love the simple projects with simple tools, Dave. They are my favorite videos, right behind the videos about weiner dogs.
Thanks for the video.
Judging by how nice that bathroom looks like now with all the things you made, I feel that short stay rental will be one of the nicest looking houses ever.
Cannot wait to see what you do next with this house, David.
Thank you!
Scorin' lines, poundin' glass.
All right all right all right...
Looks good.
I just happened to watch an earlier video of yours earlier this week about and it brought up a couple of thoughts... 1) Your videos have come a long way since the early days, and 2) Bring back the conga drums!
I'm so excited for this house to be finished. Do Toledo residents get a discount lol.
Looks great, better than good
Dude, way to go
REM is back!! Feeling nostalgic using those budget tools?
Saw you using the Wen planer. Did you have a follow-up on the missing parts with that tool? Great video, as always!
Inspiring video with some great tips! I thought a planer belongs in the expensive tools category? ;)
Technically, you're sanding in the place where you renovate. I'm contacting REM. 😂. And AirBNB. And maybe even Santa Claus. Sorry this had to happen.
🤣
I would like to say that those of you are interested... you can watch full-length episodes of the New Yankee workshop on YT. I recently found this out... and when it relates to a project that interest me, I have been watching them. 😊
Also, did anyone else notice that when the bathroom door is open, the outlet is behind the door?😂 odd?
Great simple project, well executed one question, I know in your own house normal glass wouldn't be a problem but in a rental would it be prudent to use toughened glass?
This was another win! Looks very nice. It came out great. I wonder if you had carried the design from the shower curtain and vanity to the backwall of your cabinet, how that would look?
That would have been a great idea!
Nice project 😊 It would have been nice to see you scribe for the decorative frame, that’s something that would really be useful in future fitted furniture videos. I would have chosen to screw it in place rather than nails though, otherwise it will be destroyed if anyone decides to remove it one day :(
You actually don't have to use a specific "glass cutting oil". Automatic Transmission fluid works way better. Little tip I learned working as a glass technician
I enjoy the budget tools. Wondered what budget miter gauge that was.
What is the name / link of the table saw miter gauge? Looks like an aftermarket one. Thanks!! Great video!!
That came out great!! But now I feel poorer than I already did😂😂😂 my “real shop” isn’t as nice as your cheap shop! 😅
"Sand in the place where you rent"
Hi Dave. Nice little project and love the use of the Wen tools. Looks like you built a little table saw stand when we where not looking. How is that holding up?
The next video is a mobile base for the Wen table saw. Editing now.
I have a budget Dewalt table saw. If I may ask, the miter gauge you’re using in this video seems like an awesome upgrade. Where did you buy it from???
This series kicked me into woodworking again, even getting a new table saw. Question, what mitre gauge are you using? I didn't see a link or recognize the model. Thanks!
I’m using the Jessem miter gauge. There are much cheaper options that are just as good n
Did you ever get the Wen planer fixed? I love mine just wondering how you like the working model?
yep, they sent me a replacement and it works great! 5 stars!
Did you allow for the 1/2" sheet rock on the other backside?
David, the mirror needs a simple cherry frame.
Cherry door trim next?
What’s your opinion on the WEN tablesaw after using it for a while?
Loved this project!
So far it's been great. I wish the fence was higher quality but that's to be expected on these smaller saws.
12:18 “I’m gonna try it on the side that you won’t see” 3 inches away from a giant mirror 😂😂😂😂
ha! Good point.
Tell Jimmy that he needs to bring a pry bar to make the secret door feature work.
haha! Someone has been listening the podcast! Thanks Donald!
"In our last video, we made this beautiful Cherry cabinet..." Did I miss a video???
czcams.com/video/Dhl-1KzXT6M/video.htmlsi=MEw-0b0nTkGFzvXo
I'm sure the videos just came out out of order lol. If you look, there was no video from last week. They might have had trouble getting it out like a copyright claim or the filming/editing took longer than expected.
We do not exist in a linear world. All of our old videos are the video we put out last week.
@@CeeJayThe13th Possibly was dealing with shipping issues with his finish. Has discussed it on the Making It podcast.
@@ImGonnaMake Found it! Three months ago and one of only two that I hadn't viewed yet.
Do those cheap table saws not come with blade guards?
Nice build, but my OCD can't ignore the fact it doesn't line up with the door or the mirror.
Love the cabinet..i just (here comes opinion 670.286 😂) would use safety glass ..
Which miter gauge are you using on that tablesaw? Been wanting to upgrade the one that came with my Kobalt
I'm using the Jessem but I think it's overpriced. Any aftermarket miter gauge will be tons better.
How'd you fix rhe planer?
"Ain't no cursin' on this channel any more!"
Hopefully there ain't any less, neither. 😉👍
Love these series! Also, for those who don't listen to your podcast: start listening! It gives all kinds of background info you otherwise would not get. Like why David is looking fitter and slimmer each video!
♥️😁
Wish you had put the cabinet pattern on the back pieces.
So Wen fixed the issue with the planer? Or was it a repurchase
They sent a new one.
I always find it very dificult to measure and cut 45 degres joins on the tablesaw. Any hint how to do this properly ?
was there a need to reinforce the corners since the cabinet was going to be in the wall?
Probably not. 😄
@@MakeSomething oh well its like 2 cents in nails probably not worth worrying about just was curious.
I was honestly hoping for a quick 10 second “4 stars” rating on the Planer when he was using it since that was such a debacle last time it was in a video
I enjoyed this video demonstrating that you dont need $10K in tools to make something.
That looks like a pretty nice miter gauge... can you let us know the make and model? (Thanks in advance)
It's made by Jessem and it's great but I think it's overpriced.
Thanks David. I was afraid of that. A fine company and they do make great stuff. Ah well.. gotta save my pennies.
Did yall purposely forget the "R" in T-shirts to make it say T-shits. Looks good
Anybody know which miter gauge that is?
Would it be possible, in all of your project videos, to place a little bit of text, either at the start or end, where you just put "Total number of hours worked (insert hours), and total number of days until completion (insert days)"?
One thing I always wish woodworking channels disclosed was just how long it took to make a project... how many hours, or days, or weeks, etc. I feel so slow when I build, but the magic of editing means I have no reference for knowing what timeline you and other big creators work on.
The problem is that filming these videos adds so much more time that it's really hard to put it into hours.
was that normal pane glass?
yeah. stuff I picked up at Home Depot.
If I don't have a table saw, should I use my CNC?
ha! Yes!
No cursing anymore? What's the fun in that????
Will the Cherry not be ruined by the steam from the shower?
We’ll find out! That’s my favorite part of being a woodworker. Experimenting and learning!
@@MakeSomething keep us posted!
He said wood long and awkward. 😂
SAND! Woohoo!
Good times. Looks like a good opportunity for secret storage.
#longandawkward #thatswhatshesaid
Don't let me rent your house, bro. My slogan is "Break Something," and I'm not a good guest. Which is not to say I'm not fun to have over sometimes.
I'd be worried that the nail head would impede the glass shelf from seating...
No worries, you can sleep easy tonight!
Drill some holes, pound some glas
I love the idea of the “cheap shop,” but I hate the mentality of “If I had a shop of tools” the CZcams trolls bring.
Maybe it's against the spirit of a quick and dirty custom piece like that but I would never have brad nailed it in. I imagine you'd have to damage the piece or destroy it in some way to remove it from the spot now. Is there a reason you didn't add hidden screw holes so it could easily have been removed?
Thanks! The way I think about this project is that it is a permanent fixture and will never need to come out until the next remodel in 30 years.
Ain’t no effing cursing. We’re all gennulmen here 😁
What day is it?
Monday
I don’t know much about cameras, does the piece look orange IRL or is it the camera.
