You are an outstanding teacher! I love it that I have to pause it every once in a while to catch up--that is rare. Usually when I try to learn stuff on CZcams I have to fast forward to find the ten percent or so of the video that is actually educational. You're a breath of fresh air: you don't waste any time and I bet you've taught more people more efficiently than just about anybody else on CZcams.
Thanks for being so generous with your knowledge, and so respectful of your students' time. One a scale of one to five I give you six stars. Thanks again.
7yrs and still relevant! Great vid, very informative.

Very informative and easy to understand. I just purchased a replacement DVD drive for my older tower and did not realize it was a SATA interface. I can return it or get a SATA to IDE bridge port for around $20. The DVD drive only cost that much umh!
very well, thanks for a very detaied information
well I actually understood most of this not because of you brother lol you might be only reason I come to you tube for help on pc world but as always I came to learn 1 thing and now got to learn 6 more things lmao but all worth it and thankful to you and sponsors that have the sight to see you are worth every dime they pay you.
very good video. thank you for such useful video.
Well done!
Good explanation. We have gone from PATA to SATA#G/s and caballing has gotten much neater. What is more important is the controllers.
Very informative, I like it!
My new built computer say "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key." What is the problem? I dont have any OS disc yet but is it gonna be fix when I installed windows
I don't know, put the disc in?
young linus, classic
this video brought me back to the time of RIBBON cables.
True, but those fuckers were durable!
Great video I have just bought an SATA 3 SSD drive and my older motherboard only has SATA 2 speeds and connections I was told by my local shop that I should purchase a controller card to convert SATA to to SATA 3 making it run at the 6gbps that it is meant to.
very informative, thank you~
So happy to see Linus excel.
Thanks linus!
My mom's PC was bought in 2002 and she is still using it. IDE cables and the works. :)
very good info thank you
@sandiegoborn32 yes, it is possible. The PCI-E slot runs at reduced bandwidth though (I believe they officially ran at PCI-E x4 equivalent), even though they were connected electrically as a PCI-E x16 card. Some motherboard makers did this to ease the transition from AGP to PCI-E when consumers first started moving in 2004 and 2005.
that is me right now.. yours was the one I understood.
You are a SATA PhD. I truly wish I could take a computer class from you. Thks
@OfTehRose Yes, SATA2 is backwards and forward compatible with SATA3. Meaning you can also plug SATA3 drives into SATA2 connectors. But the drive will be limited to SATA2 throughput of 3Gbps.
Linus is a vampire. The man hasn’t aged
Damn 10 years and he hasn't aged a bit. I'm calling it rn Linus is immortal
Is that windows Vista on the TV in the background....
Young linus
I love your videos.
Good job
Verry nice and helpfull.
using sata3 on hdd... looks good bro
never knew needing to watch a video from ten years ago to a problem from modern day
damn you linus this is very unique mobo !
Well done Linus for inventing the word 'thoroughput'. Maybe you meant throughput?
jesus christ I am studying COMPTIA and CISCO and every time I youtube something, linus is there. all of the concepts.
We need a new sata rundown
@NewRisingSong SATA is backwards compatible on both controller and device side. So yes, you can connect a SATA3 drive to a SATA2 port.
THANK YOU!
Currently running the Gigabyte FX990 UD7 motherboard...
all ports are SATA 3 aka 6Gbs
i have one 32GB Sata 3 SSD caching a 2TB WD Black Sata drive...
space and performance... gota love it...
