    For less than 5k you can get a full kashima enduro Ibis or a Commencal Clash with trp dhr-evos and rs ultimate suspension setup, don't give away your money boys!

    I feel like bikes like this are heading back towards 4x bikes from back in the day. Strong bikes that can take the abuse with less travel. I really like that feel in a bike and it's a lot more connected vs just having tons of travel soaking up everything.
    Thanks for the detailed review!

      They told me those are "last years model" and they need to get ride of the parts since the new models have different colors 🤣

      Not sure they would compare. My friend has the Druid and says he has tried with the ziggy link and without. Likes it more with all 29er wheels. However, he says it is really glued to the ground. It climbs really well but it wants to stay glued to the ground and eat up the jank. This bike seems to be more party playful and able to lift off the ground easily and probably because it has 120mm of rear travel and the Druid 130. The Druid he says feels bottomless. The SC Tallboy is probably similar to the Scor or the Ibis Ripley although the Ripley is not focused on "downcountry/enduro".

    I have ran into this... there is rarely a 'sweet spot' that really accomodates traditional XCish, in the saddle type riding and more aggressive enduro... which IMO makes trail bikes hard to get 100% right.
    The long, slack, low geo can absolutely be applied to short travel bikes, like the Canyon Spectral 125, Norco Optic, Fuel Ex, and now more the long legged x-country varients that use Step cast and SID forks.
    HOWEVER... riding is SO different and mostly, that's where the in-the-saddle handling has no longer become priority, over the stand up, weight the front end and 'lean' the bike into corner modern style of riding.
    The latter, being much more stable at both speed and pitch, because of the slacked out fork and reach, unfortuantely meants that in the less pitchy, and less speed... less control in the saddle.
    Thats usually NOT a problem until you are bonked, climbing tight, off camber or transitioning in between where you HR is in the Red... its really hard to get out of the saddle to 'lean' the bike, when in the past you could just steer more in the saddle.
    So, if you want a short travel bike like this it's for #1 more pedaling effeciency #2 you still can charge #3 poppy for fun... BUT I think that this type of geo is not great for overall effeciency.

    • @yoavmiller216
      @yoavmiller216 Před 9 měsíci

      This geo should come with a warning: "Do not use on trails less than ____% steep".

    • @seanoneil277
      @seanoneil277 Před 9 měsíci +3

      I think you've summarized the beliefs of the online chatter collective.
      I'm not sure you're correct, though. I think you should try riding a lot of different bikes with a huge variety of geometries.
      Nothing in the world makes a 65deg HA unuseable for high level XC racing. The limiting factor is racer anxiety and knowing "what works" presently, and a stubbornness/mistrust about change. Ten years ago in UCI XCO Elite, steep angles skinny tires no dropper posts. And look at them today.

    • @plg8524
      @plg8524 Před 9 měsíci +1

      I don’t know about this one but regarding the Canyon 125 I agree, on non too steep terrain you really need to charge the front (i mean to lean forward) to get a good handling of a bike. On the saddle brutal riding style is no more an option (unfortunately)

    • @vrwgq3q
      @vrwgq3q Před 9 měsíci

      @@seanoneil277 the STA is what has been able to essentially trickle down a DH bike's geo in moderate forms of Enduro, Trail, XC... while 100% a 65 HTA will make life easier for those descents... and as the UCI makes the races more challenging, this has become more necessary, I can tell you from riding bikes in that 'trail' category that the modern Geo just makes 'in the saddle' technical riding harder, which makes sense, as you would almost typically want to be 'out of the saddle' and postured to charge and maneuver. However that position to charge and maneuver really takes more of my energy out when I'm on a steep, loose, off camber climb with switchbacks, where I'm dead already lol

    • @seanoneil277
      @seanoneil277 Před 9 měsíci

      @@vrwgq3q I think you may be seeing "modern geo" as a package when it's not that, or at least it doesn't have to be that. MTB frame geometries have slowly -- glacially, almost -- moved away from the origins in road bikes. What you are calling "modern geo" is a group of changes that don't all have to be there at once.
      You say DH angles migrated to trail/enduro. Brother, I ask you to look at UCI World Cup Elite DH frame HAs from 15 years ago. DH itself had to migrate from road geometry, and it was quite slow in doing that as well.
      The steep STA was done for 2 reasons, the primary of which was to reduce cycling activity on the rear suspension, to take rider's weight bias off the rear shock. The second reason was to try to bring the old standard for seated pedaling -- Effective Top Tube -- within reason while still having a slack HA and steep STA.
      20 years ago people began playing with short stems and wide bars to slow down steering on 70, 69, 68 deg HAs. But this made the ETT too short. Suddenly, MTB media became enamored with "Reach" as if that geometric concern was never on the table before. Hell, it was always on the table as a function of STA, HA, ETT. Calling it "Reach" was just a new label for an old bike fit aspect.
      On a hardtail there's no need for super steep STA because there's no rear suspension to consider, no rear sag taking your hips backward toward the rear axle.

      The most practical way to describe short CS bikes: they don't give you much warning when your rear wheel is about to hit something your front tire just managed.
      They require sharper reflexes and the ability to properly unweight the rear axle.
      If you ever got used to riding short CS bikes on irregular terrain, going to longer CS will feel like someone is pulling your rear wheel backward from behind you, as you ride. Stand-pedaling for climbs will feel like your hips are in the wrong place and why is it taking so long for the rear tire to crest that ledge?
      The tradeoff for those negatives is that it feels stable in a straight line. And it's very forgiving when you are not properly centered between the axles.

    Always confused about who these are for. Who's in the market for 120mm travel? What do you ride? Do you feel limited?
    *Edit*
    Based on the replies it seems down to local terrain. Im in the north east of the US and my local trails are very techy and rocky with pretty large features. The biggest and most diverse trail area located near me is in a literal stone quarry so you can imagine it's pretty rocky. My local downhill park seems to be more vertical and chunky than what I've seen in videos. So I think I may just live in an area that favors more travel. I currently ride 150mm from and rear and wish I went 160mm front and rear.

    • @willemdesmond4876
      @willemdesmond4876 Před 9 měsíci +6

      You should give a 120mm bike a try, they are a blast pretty much anywhere and usually don't feel limited unless your trails are high speed chunky. I feel like 90% of the time most people aren't on the gnarliest terrain, which makes this kind of a blast for most usual trail rides. They feel very quick and responsive and make huge days in the saddle a lot more pleasant.

      If you have been riding a long time and have ridden a variety of bikes (fully rigid, hardtail, and varying travel amount FS) you can pretty easily decide on short travel. Even if the great majority of online chatter and MTB scribblers saying you need an "enduro" bike. I see a lot of people riding 150-170mm travel bikes on trails that really can be managed on a fully rigid bike. It's a lot of wasted energy but if you've never ridden simpler bikes on the same terrain, you probably wouldn't know. Really depends on where you are in your MTB experiences. You can ride an "enduro" travel range bike on any terrrain you like, but in many cases you're burning calories and watts just to have capabilities you aren't using.

    • @FunkMonk4
      @FunkMonk4 Před 9 měsíci

      I'm in an area with lots of rolling up and down and varied terrain that benefits from being in this middle ground between XC and enduro. Plus Scor is probably benefiting from recycling a customer base from their BMC offerings, so 120/130 mm of travel is probably right up the alley of an enduro-curious lycra dad

    • @ChlorophyllCrusher
      @ChlorophyllCrusher Před 9 měsíci +3

      I ride a hardtail with 120mm fork, Ottawa-Gatineau, eastern Canada. Our terrain is rocky and rooty to varying degrees, and we can do 100km plus XC rides pulling in a broad range of tech level, linking with fire-road style trails, pavement, and rail trail. A 120mm bike like this would be ideal, and many here are on 130s. I’ve noted a majority of folks seem to be riding 10-30mm more travel than makes sense for their preferred trails, which is a bit to do with cutting tires and blaming suspension travel.

    • @oldkayakdude
      @oldkayakdude Před 9 měsíci +1

      Being that I rode hardtails for decades (80s-00s) even 120 would have been massive, but yeah now I ride a fleet. I do ride an SB5c (130) on XC ish trails, but its tweaked to be light, its not my go anywhere bike. 120s IMO are just a stable bike or if you live in an area that is mostly flowy not too chunky trails.

    Another over priced bike from a boutique brand. Lovely. No wonder this sport is slowly dieing with the general public.

      How does one model of SCOR bike ruin MTB for you? Is someone forcing you to sell your current bike at a loss, and buy this SCOR at maximum markup?

    • @PeterCPRail8748

      @seanoneil277 have you been asleep? Every bike manufacturer has been marketing bikes in the 6 grand to 13 grand range. Virtually abandoning, value bikes. The value bikes they do offer come with garbage components, compared to what value bikes came with 5 to 6 years ago.
      The bike industry today is nothing more than a money grab. You will see these same bikes being in the 2 to 4 grand range new from the factory once the economy crashes due to this out of hand inflation, in a few years.
      Overall, the average bike has increased anywhere from 40 to 300% from what they used to be not too long ago.

      It is funny how manufacturers put on carbon wheels and a overpriced XX1 groupset and expect you to pay 13 grand for no real world benefit

      @@PeterCPRail8748 Chuckles you should never assume you know the breadth and extent of another's knowledge or experience. It means you'll be wrong more than correct.
      I asked a simple quesiton. How does this one SCOR bike model ruin MTB for you?
      You haven't answered it.
      I have been riding MTBs since the early 1990s. I know what things cost. I've been to UBI's framebuilding school and I've built CrMo frames.
      You seem to want an argument but you want to argue about points I haven't made. Curious thing.

      @hannes6114 to many people with too much money with idiotic money management skills. If these bikes didn't sell, they wouldn't be offered in the numbers they are by the majority of the industry. Even an ebike should not be priced more than a top of the line dirt bike, entry motorcycle, or decent used car. But again, to many people with poor financial choices.
      I never paid more than 3000 grand for a full suspension bike from the manufacturer from a LBS. Up to 6 years ago, you got a killer bike right between entry and mid level, if not mid level. Now you get utter shit. You're better off buying a frame and building your own bike with second-hand parts.

    Nice review Mike. I may be spitting in the wind here, but is it possible to stop calling bikes and trails "aggressive"? Neither a bicycle nor a trail is an animated, living thing with tendencies such as "aggression." Aggression is an animal quality described by humans. It's not suitable to a bike, or a trail. "Difficult, technical" for trail may be a good replacement. For bike? Travel amount, or intended trail type.
    I suppose newbie riders want to see themselves as "aggressive" in order to not feel like a newbie with no experience. But fooling one's self with riding an "aggressive" bike on an "aggressive" trail doesn't make the newbie any less a newbie.

      The bike's geometry and cockpit can put the rider into a position that feels more aggressive to the rider when engaging in all of the dynamic movements inherent to mountain biking. This would include but is not limited to weighting and unweighting the pedals, pumping rollers, tipping into berms, using body English to induce a controlled loss of traction (i.e. Scandi flips), preloading the suspension, squashing/scrubbing, last minute line changes, jibs of all kind etc. etc. etc. Some bike's frame geo put your body stance into a more relaxed position while making these dynamic movements, others put you into a more aggressive feeling stance. I believe this is what people mean when they say a bike or trail is more aggressive than average: the feeling of the stance that a frame's geo puts you into, or the features that a particular trail has makes you, the rider, feel like you're riding more aggressively than you normally do. It's used to describe how you, the rider, feels and not so much describing the bike or trail itself.

      @@Frater_Maven No. You are just using different words but saying the same. The bike is NOT aggressive.
      I've been riding a long time. Have ridden many kinds of bikes, many kinds of trails. Bikes are NOT aggressive. Ever. Whether the rider atop the bike is aggressive is another question entirely. A newbie rider on the hottest DH bike of the moment is still a newbie rider.
      I commend you for knowing buzz phrases that you can throw out like you're trying to win a gig writing Advert copy for a MTB maker. But you haven't explained how an inanimate object can harbor aggression. It's just not possible.

      @@seanoneil277My first bike was a 2008 Kona Dawg Deluxe, then a 2012 Stumpy Jumper Elite, then a 2016 Scott Genius LT 710, then a 2019 Transition Patrol, and currently I'm on a 2023 Transition Smuggler: I've been riding a long time too bud, and in case you didn't actually read my comment I'm agreeing with you. I've never ridden a bike or trail that was aggressive. I have however ridden several bikes and trails that encouraged me to ride more aggressively than I usually would. I don't understand why you're being so argumentative about this. I'm simply offering a more thorough explanation of what it seems to me like people are trying to describe when they call a bike or trail aggressive. It's your prerogative to take it or leave it. I do not mean to spend precious time engaging in a battle of senseless splitting of hairs with any keyboard warriors. I have spoken.

      @@Frater_Maven If you're agreeing with me it was difficult to see before. The whole point I'm making is that the word "aggressive" and the concept of "aggression" do not suit bikes or trails. That's it.
      Beyond that, I have said it's best to discover what different geometries and types of bicycle actually do, in practice, on the same trail. If you don't go do that, and experience the range of ride types and ride qualities, and merely focus on how MTB journos and commenters throw words around, you can't really learn much about bikes or how they ride. Riding bikes is not the same as bench racing on the internet.
