FAT LOSS WORKOUT | Low impact at home workout geared to help you lose weight

  • Today is our 2nd interval training day...day 3. This low impact, fat loss workout is great for completing at home and is geared to help you lose weight. Today we'll do various exercises at a regular pace to warm up for 10 minutes then we'll pick up the pace. We will go fast for 2.5 minutes then slow it down for 2.5 minutes. When I say 'fast', I want you to find the pace that works for YOU. The speed needs to be geared to YOUR fitness level. It might be a fast walk or a slow jog. Just remember we are going for 2.5 minutes which is a long time compared to our other interval training days. You will need to pace yourself today. If you're just starting out, then just walk faster than your usual pace. I apologize for repeating this but you really need to cater the intervals to YOUR fitness level. Go as fast as you can knowing you'll get a break after the 2.5 minutes. We'll slow it right down so you'll have time to recover before we do another set. We'll be completing 4 sets today. We'll finish with a 5 minute cool-down.
    This is SERIES 2, weeks 5-8 of the interval training program. Ideally, do the first series of 7 days for 4 weeks before starting this one. If you stick with the program, you will lose weight and will see results. Continue this second series of 7 days for 4 weeks.
    This interval training program is suitable for anyone who can currently walk for 30 minutes 4-6 times a week. If you are at that fitness level then you can start this program (suitable exercise for seniors, beginners, and people of all ages). Interval training is geared for burning calories and fat, building muscle, and getting past that plateau effect that so many people hit. Interval training uses brief bursts of high-intensity activity which provides the effects people are looking for...more results!
    The breakdown of each day:
    Day 1: Intervals: 1 minute fast and 1 minute slow x 6 • LOSE WEIGHT and SEE RE...
    Day 2: 20 minute workout • Walking Workout for We...
    Day 3: 2.5 minutes fast and 2.5 minutes slow intervals x 4
    Day 4: Stretching • FULL-BODY STRETCH | St...
    Day 5: 50 minute workout • 50 MINUTE WALKING WORK...
    Day 6: 25 minute workout with focus on arms • 25 Min Walk at Home Wo...
    Day 7: 20 minute workout • 20 MIN WALK & DANCE WO...
    When I did this workout 20 some odd years ago, I shed weight really quickly. I had about 20 pounds to lose and I lost it. Interval training is super effective if done properly. As with anything, your body will start to get used to the workout so I'll create another program in the future. It'll just be a bit more challenging which is what your body will need at that point. Please email me if you have any questions about the workouts. Always listen to your body and take an extra day off at any point if you really feel you need it. The last thing you want is injuries so definitely listen to your body and go at the pace that suits your body and your fitness level.
    After week 8, you will have a week off. Yes, an actual week off the intervals. Ideally, you should still work out but do other workouts you enjoy. 20, 30, 40 minute workouts are fine.

    I actually managed to keep pace with you for the runs and even upped my pace for the last 30 seconds on all four sets. It's been 30 years since I did any running (67 yr old) so I am incredibly pleased with myself.
    Treated myself to a rest day of a 30 minute line dance tutorial I found on CZcams! So much energy!

    So glad I found Improved Health! After the last 3 years with COVID and then 2 shoulder surgeries it's been tough getting back in shape. I've tried other walking videos and workout videos for over 60's but I got really tired of all the talking! I love these workouts so far. Very encouraging!

    Competed day 3. I have been doing your monthly schedules intermediate for about6 weeks. I noticed today, even going at a fast pace and extra fast for last 30 secs, I am not even out of breath. So my fitness has definitely improved!

    I did this as Day 2 of the January 2023 30 day plan. As I looked out at snow, this was an energetic indoor walk/jog/recovery interval workout. Thank you for the reminders to modify the movements and pace to our personal abilities. Instead of getting out for a walk on snow and ice this afternoon I'm going to try your new 50's music workout.👍

    Meant to say, last night I was home late as I was putting my wee 93 year old mum to bed. Had to sort dinner when I got home and hadnt done any exercise. So I put music on in the kitchen and did your exercises as I cooked. Got a 20 minute walking workout in. Husband thought I had lost the plot but it was fun.

    I know what keeps me going on this journey, it’s you!!
    Your videos are brilliant, there are lots of hints and tips and plenty of encouragement along the way for us to read and keep us going. Even your miming is understood and very helpful.
    These videos are a couple of years old and when I’ve followed other videos and commented on them, nothing comes back. It can feel quite lonely on that journey. But for some reason you are always there. You must be so busy as almost everyone is but you find the time to like and comment.     Good morning Jules. This is the first time in 2 years I have been able to do a full on HITT workout and I did it. I was diagnosed with COPD in May and AFib in August. My Respirologist gave me permission on Wednesday to do this since the Inhaler he prescribed has worked so well. Thanks for this challenge. Yup, I feel so awesome I could cry that I did it. 💃💃💃

    You know how much I admire you, Jules. Having the split screen demo of doing the fast or slower interval was the equivalent of a wish come true: you cloned yourself! Also, thank you for smiling throughout. Even your pony tail was bouncing happily!

    Good Morning Jules.....it was a killer workout but I did it, now I am on to go a Stretch workout and then my 3 minute breathing exercise, there is nothing like it. Been walking every morning and I will be on to the Farmers Market this afternoon. I think tomorrow because I do have a hard time doing the floor I am going to do the new workout you just put out.     Jules....got through Day #3..."WOW" that was quite a workout....in 3 weeks I go to see my doctor for my annual, I know it's going to be really good. Now I am going to do my Ab and Stretch workout and then that wonderful 3 minute breathing exercise, I do hope there will be more of those....have a great rest of the day....take care and God Bless....Anne

    Thank you that was AWESOME. My second interval I did go too fast, not for my cardio but my calves started cramping in final seconds. I slowed it down on the next ones and was able to complete the whole workout. Loved it. Felt more like I was going for a run. Thank you.

    Day 3 of week 2 DONE!! Who knew that 2.5 minutes of jogging was longer than 2.5 minutes of a slower pace. LOL BTW I had been at about the same weight for 2 months and I just couldn't get those darn scales to budge. I kept telling myself "well at least you aren't gaining" but I just wanted to see the scales move again. I'm happy to say that they are finally budging so that's a motivator right there to continue with your videos! Thanks so much for taking the time to put these together and sharing them with us!

    I really surprised myself! I took your advice, Jules and paced myself a little better than I have in the past and it made a big difference! I didn't stop jogging but just went a little more slowly until the last 30 seconds when I went as fast as I could. I'm hot and sweaty but feel great. Thank you!

    I was really concerned I wouldn’t be able to do this one since it was longer and the intervals were longer. BUT, I did it! 😃 I did slow down the intervals a bit, but will speed them up next time now that I know what to expect! I look forward to stretching tomorrow!

    I pick my workouts depending on how I feel. Today I felt like intervals. This met every need. After doing your workouts all this time I’m definitely gaining endurance. And losing weight!!

    Nearing the end of week 8, loving the programme and able to up the pace for the final 50 seconds on each run!
    I have actually run outside, just from lamp post to lamp post, whilst walking the dog. I'm also doing your strength videos 3 times a week.
    I haven't lost any weight but the jiggly bits don't jiggle quite so much now!! Thanks Jules, you have put so much effort into all your videos 💖

      Thanks Sherry! When I first started running 20 some years ago that is exactly how I started…telephone pole to telephone pole with walks and jogs. It’s a great way to start which is basically what we are doing in this program (minus the poles!). That’s great you are able to keep the same pace! We are all different in terms of weight loss but I can guarantee that if you keep it up, you’ll continue to firm up and see changes. Often people get discouraged when they don’t see changes within a few weeks or months but everyone is so different but changes will happen with time. Being healthy is the biggest reason to exercise and the rest will fall into place.

    I just did this workout for the first time and I loved it! Kept up with you for the most part, and this is after coming back after a knee injury. I did modify a few of the moves but it worked well, I got my heart rate up where I wanted it!! I especially like the step counter at the bottom; I have an apple watch but I've never been too sure of its accuracy. Thank you for another great workout!

    Good steady 20 minutes! I have accidentally been all over the map with the interval training series, one day here or there. I finished week three before I realized that there were weeks one and two. So I'm starting over with week 2 and it's going well. Thanks!

      At least you are exercising and getting in a good workout each day:) Each series is designed to be done for 4 weeks before moving onto the next series. But, if you are someone who likes change, you can pick and choose as well.

      @@ImprovedHealth I've been trying to meet/exceed the CDC recommendations for 150 minutes of cardio and 75 minutes of strength training per week, so I was picking videos more on length. I'm going to continue with this series for the next four weeks; I've been working out nearly a year and while I have a lot more muscle on me, I could still stand to lose a few. Thanks!

      @@ImprovedHealth It is. I've been doing from day 14-25 of the strength program over and over; just using more weight. My abs are really improving, though I use a 12" exercise ball behind the small of my back to protect my back. My usual workout has been 20-40 minutes of cardio followed by 20 minutes of strength training. The good news is that after a year I am no longer embarrassed to wear sleeveless tops. I'm not Michelle Obama yet, but I no longer have the flap. (-:

    Definitely a very tough workout for me. I think we must listen to our body well. I did 2 jogs and 2 fast walks instead and was able to complete today's workout. And do listen to Jules, complete the first series before starting this series. Thanks, mate.

      I did start off slower than the workout since I understand the importance of warming up…10 minutes of going at a slower pace than the intervals. Hmm, maybe I need to suggest to others to do a gentle walk before. Glad to hear you finished it!

      Hi Mercedes, using copyrighted music is complicated. I'd love to use it all of the time but any time copyrighted music is used, the income from the video goes to the music producers, not the CZcams creator. I do have a popular music video coming out tomorrow (and I explain the process a bit more in the description under my video). I hope that helps.

    This is the one I found ‘by accident’ and I did it but not sure how 😂
    I realised it was part of a programme and looked for the rest and where it started from.
    So I did the first set for 7 days then 4 weeks and onto this one now , day 3 week 1 😅

      I’m actually finding it hard to find the time whilst I’m looking after my adult son. But the how bad I would feel not doing it versus how good I feel why I’ve achieved it makes it more likely that I’ll do it.
      I’m very tired so the effort that goes in might not be 100% but I am doing it and that’s what counts. I’ll just do it all over again with full effort when my time is my own again 🤞

    I like the idea of this but 4 weeks of this would be way to much for my knees!! I am doing static one arm jacks and tall marches in place of the running. Please would you consider doing interval training that raises heart rate that is more knee friendly? Thanks so much.

      Hi Lesley, you can definitely do fast walking instead of the running, or continue to do whatever move works best for your knees. With a lot of my other cardio workouts, your heart rate will definitely get elevated without the running included.

      Check out her first series. Days 1-7. You do those for 4 weeks, then work up to the #2 series, which is what this is. Great job, for still hanging in there. This is too difficult for my seniors, but they are AWESOME, for me. I do the easier 20 minute ones, with my seniors. Thanks again, Jules. Love the new music. You have been a "breath of fresh air", for seniors and those like myself, with limitations, during this entire pandemic. I may never go to the gym again, other than socializing-type exercising. 😍 Blessings.

    That was a good one. I’m curious how the steps are calculated . My fit bit showed almost 1000 less.

      Hi! Good question:) Since it's an interval training workout, the step count will be different for everybody. Since I ask viewers to go at whatever pace works for them during the fast periods, some people may choose to walk fast, others jog and others run. Since I am running as fast as I can, my pace was faster than the pace you chose. There's nothing wrong with that at all, since I want you to go at YOUR best pace or YOUR safe pace. Over time your pace will likely pick up and will be closer to the step count that I had.
