- In this video I go over everything you need to know to get started in resin 3d printing. I cover the technology, picking out a printer, picking our resin, safety, slicing, printing, and cleaning.

This video was sponsored by Nova3D and they provided the Elphin 2 printer shown in this video.
The printer is here: amzn.to/2PRfj1E
HOWEVER that printer doesn't seem to be available any longer. I'd look at this one instead: amzn.to/309s7pJ
This video is also sponsored by Yousu, and they provided the resin.
You can buy the resin here: amzn.to/2PQspfz

This is that amazing deal on the plastic sheeting. Notice that all the other roll sizes are more like $20-$30. But this one is only $5: amzn.to/3dxTT1M
Plastic Food Trays - 12 count of 12x16: amzn.to/2OnNMVe
(There are some 10x14 ones that are cheaper. But the bigger ones are better for 3d printing)
The rubber mats as seen in the resin handling video- amzn.to/3pmhfws
(I normally use both and put the rubber mats on the food trays)

Hi. Thanks for all the views and wonderful comments.
I wanted to address the UV Lamp and the fact that I wasn't wearing gloves while post curing. You can't see it in the shot, but I was wearing my UV Protective eyewear. The ones shown earlier in the video. You should not look at artificial 405nm UV Light without protective eyewear. It can damage your eyes. Sorry that I didn't mention this in the video.
As far as UV Light and skin. I've had several comments that I shouldn't be exposing my skin to the UV light either. Including a comment from a close friend. As you can tell, I am very pale and am sensitive to sunlight. However the UV lamp in the video is similar to that used in a nail salon. It is narrow band 405nm. Research has shown that exposure to this type of artificial UV light does not increase the risk of skin cancer. See link below. It's safer than the same amount of exposure to direct sunlight. Therefore I haven't worried much about it. I could have just as easily taken the part outside and sun cured it for a few minutes. I prefer to post cure more slowly and instead use the UV lamp, which is less powerful than the sun.
Still, better to be safe than sorry. Therefore I do recommend that you wear gloves and avoid prolonged skin exposure to the UV light.

Question...Have you tried reusing the printed leftover resin, i mean, melting it to make it liquid form again, to be reused, thus, cutting cost, have you tried it and has it worked ?
@@kingtigertank72 That is not how Resin works, you cannot remelt it like you can with FDM prints using thermoplastics (like PLA), because it not a melted polymer in the first place. Resin is made from Monomers and a UV-active component. When it gets in contact with UV-Light, a Polymerization reaction starts, creating long chains (polymers) out of a lot of the monomers. This process is no reversable by heat.
But usually the amount of resin you "waste" (for support structures and maybe failed prints) is quite low, and all of the still liquid resin in the vat is perfectly usable.
If you want more detailed information, check out the video "Ph.D. Chemist Explains 3D Printer Resin"
@@Desca2001 this is exactly what i needed to know, very helpful and, insightful. Thank you
Looks a bit illegal printing games workshop ip
@@kingtigertank72 I've seen people make new filament from old and it's a little weaker each time(I think the bonds get really broken)
Your video production quality is insane Michael! Congrats on reaching 10K subs, you’ll soon have ten times that.
Thanks Robert. I keep watching your videos every week also.
He lays a video editor, most CZcamsrs do now
Seriously when I saw the 3d layer lines demonstration I was pretty impressed I appreciate the high quality videos
He's got 60k now!
Great video. After 6 years of FDM printing, I’m finally delving into Resin printing. You seem to be a natural at instructional video and you’re pleasant to listen to. Finally - a CZcamsr that isn’t trying to be a celebrity! I’m glad I found your channel. Thank you.
New to all this stuff, but why is resin better than the other stuff? Just curious
@@rocus80m Hi! Im new too but ive noticed that resin prints look better and smoother.
@@rocus80m its much easier to get a lot of details into a resin print than compared to FDM! Either way, both often require lots of testing and trying until it works out perfectly for you!
I just discovered this channel as am looking for my first printer...very good video indeed
This is the best video I've seen so far. I was skeptical about getting a resin printer because I was under the impression that if one drop of resin got on your skin, you would drop dead instantly! 👻 The stove reference, which I use several times a day, changed my mind.😁 I started thinking about other things I use that can be dangerous, like my table saw, my car, etc. I think I'll give resin printing a try after all.
Don't be fooled. Getting resin carelessly on you can cause you to have incredibly intense allergic reactions. Check reddit for those that have failed to follow proper safety precautions with pictures of visible skin damage. Over time, even a microscopic drop of resin can still cause those reactions. Resin is not to be messed with.
@@chrisnunez4758 is this true of the newer "cleaner" resins as well?
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽I'd love to see your creations!!
You think they were Covid deaths..........
It's not too bad. Just don't let it on your skin if possible and ventilate well. *Test your skin for allergic reaction!* Always wash your skin well if you get some resin on it.
An additional useful item to use is puppy training pads (aka wee wee pads) they are an absorbant layer on top of a plastic backing. Its great for managing spills. Put them underneath where your working or printer. If there is any spill just pick up the whole thing and toss. So much easier than trying to wipe things up with paper towels.
great tip, thanks
Finally someone who’s honest about their sponsors.
You said the yousu is decent stuff,
Some people would say that it’s the most cheap and the best resin on the market so the sponsor would come back.
This is really well made.. thank you!!
Looking into resin as well?
DANIEL KRAFFT
I LOVE YOU
No way
This guy is cool
Congrats with 10K! You deserve a lot more however. The quality of information and the way you bring it are just flawless. This video is just another example. Good to hear about the sponsorship too. Best wishes to you!
I have an Elegoo Saturn 2 sitting on my dining room table at this moment, still sealed in its original box. I have been using an Ender 3 FDM printer for years and love it but decided to take the leap to resin with the Saturn 2. As one might expect, I have been watching a number of 3d resin printer videos and have found this video to be the best by far. I really like your straightforward, honest and direct approach to explaining the finer details of resin printing and the fact that you do so without relying on that overly-hyped and forced "toxic positivity" that makes me cringe and immediately shut the videos off just makes for a perfect presentation. Thank you for not being a schlock jock and actually offering useful information.
I do have a question that I had not previously considered. As someone who wants to conserve resin, should I consider getting a smaller printer for smaller prints and save the Saturn 2 for larger projects? Amazon has the Mars 3 Pro for $299 now, is that a good price?
Good video. I have 4 resin printers and have been resin printing for about a year. I believe you've covered everything, I have nothing to add.
Hi, hope u can help me, i'm ready to Buy My first 3d resin printer, in My country we doesnt have too much variety, and the only "well knowed" 3d printers are 1.- Anycubic photon mono x and the 2.- Creality LD006... And i don't know wich one Buy... Please help me!! Btw, sorry about My Bad English, it's not My native. Thanks!!
Wow, I'm looking at getting into 3d printing and this video was absolutely perfect! Clearly and concisely went over everything necessary to get started, with links to more in depth topics. I don't normally subscribe after watching one video (especially about more niche topics) but you earned one from me, keep it up!
Damn bro! I work in the corporate training sector and this video is pure 🔥 🔥. Great presentation, cutaways, graphics and titles. This is a masterclass. Definitely giving you a follow.
Thanks bro!
Crazy you've gone from 10k to 40k in a year! You deserve the attention, you are doing an excellent job capturing and teaching this information.
Tons of great info in this video. Wish I had seen before buying my Phrozen Sonic Mighty, but still glad it exists now. Thanks for sharing!
Dude why are you making the best 3d printing videos rt now?? Great work and thank you!
Wow, thanks!
Hands down the best comprehensive detailed summary of SLA printer with so the info a person needs. Also a very well put together video production. I enjoyed watching and listening. I appreciate the time it takes to produce high quality videos and the time put in to make it so good. Thanks again, you gained a fan.
I am speechless with how well this video is planned and executed. I'm a maker and have been doing 3d printing for a while. Just about to pul the trigger on a couple of resin printers and this was definitely the best video I've seen on resin printing tips and overviews. Excellent work here.
Wow, that was the best getting started in resin printing video I have watched. You present the how to in a much easier way than most other videos, very easy to understand the process. Looking forward to getting a printer soon. Again, great video, thank you for sharing. A new subscriber.
I watched this video several months ago and I find myself watching it again before I make a purchasing decision. This is such an informative and professional video. You really did a great job!
Very comprehensive guide to resin 3d printing. Thank you for making a video like this.
You've just reached 10k and in only 2 months later you are at 15,600! Halfway through and I feel as if ive struck gold. Sir clearly you are doing something right. Subbed
This is by far and away the best 3D printer guide ever. Much love!!
I've had a FDM printer several years and want to try resin. This was the perfect video for explaining how to get started.
One minute and 46 seconds in this video and you already got me hooked! Your animations are awesome! I'm into 3d printing for 4 years now, and I never seen such a good explanation of how 3 3d printing works! You should start with "welcome to my ted talk" :D
Very informative video! I've been doing FDM printing for 4 years or so and while I still believe it's my current best choice for my own purposes, I will always adore the sheer amount of detail that's possible with SLA printing. Glad to see it's starting to enter an area where it's becoming affordable for most people who want to get into it
Clear and concise! Nice change vs other channels. You can tell you spent some time producing this and it was worth the effort.
Thanks!
This is one of the best 3d printing videos I've watched, thank you for the awesome graphics explaining how things work. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.
Thank you Michael for putting this video together! I am looking at getting a 3D printer and this is a huge help, subscribed!
Thank you for the fantastic video. The most simple and straightforward explanation of 3D printing I've seen in a video. I'm going to use it in my future classes.
But, for me personally, I wanted to thank you because as someone who is thinking about adding my first resin printer to the mix I had some questions and you answered them all. So glad you mentioned UV light and windows as that changes everything I was thinking about as far as placement.
Wow! This was a fantastic video. I've been looking to get into 3D printing, and have been waiting for the resin printers to come down in price, as I wasn't interested in getting into PLA printing. Very informative, and having an entire section on how to prepare your workspace, and what items you'll want to get....you realize how much trial and error you just saved me? Too good to me!
love the explanation and animation, thank you
Very informative without too much fluff, very too the point for everything with lots of good experienced suggestions. Loved it.
Really great explanations all around. As a total novice, this video makes getting into resin printing way less daunting
Great video. Answered everything I wanted to know about resin printing.
you are a boon to the community. such good details, great quality and flow. Awesome video
I really liked this video, and typically American it doesn't assume you know anything so I found it really good.
I knew NOTHING about 3d printing, didn't even know what sla and fdm is so now I do.
Thanks
I just purchased a Mono 2 today, I cannot wait. So I've been binge watching 3d videos. I really enjoyed this, informative and gave me somethings to think about. Thank you :)
Even though this video is 2 years old it holds up, I’m just thinking about filament vs resin and I think this had convinced me that resin isn’t as difficult as I thought and probably the way to go for me!
Wash and cure station is worth buying. Plus it can wash your build plate. Allow to dry and snap off the supports then cure . Don't play fast and loose with your bed level or cleaning the vat. I had to replace my screen after only 2 1kg bottles because I damaged it. Anycubic has 3 for the price of 2 bottles for 52.00 I think. 3kg of resin will last a long time. Expect shipping to take a few weeks. Don't scrape your vat. it will damage the FEP sheet. Remove and clean it with soapy water and gently press front the back side with you finger and you work the stuck parts loose with something soft.
Excellent video! I knew very little about resin printing prior watching but I guess you managed to cover most of the basics.
This channel is way too underrated for the quality, the camera angles, animation and script are amazing!
Wow thanks!
amazing video really helped me out
Thanks for this video. Very informative, to the point, and a great intro to the basics. Exactly what I was looking for.
I love your videos and your voice tone, explaining animation, EVERYTHING!
I’m throughly impressed with this video. Thank you!
Beautiful video quality !
Though I do want to point out, I had a major spill/exposure of this stuff happen to me and weeks later got a temporary paralysis(for a few months) with muscle twitching and metallic taste in the mouth as the first symptomatic signs. It's more than just an irritant if you become exposed more (affects the central nervous system and immune system). It can become a class 3 and almost class 4 danger with more exposure. It should be rated a class 3 imo.
I really recommend a lab coat for added safety with strong nitrile gloves and a mask in addition just like companies require to follow proper safety dressage of hazardous liquid materials.
It's known to kill fish with just a few drops in a large aquarium so don't wash this in the drain much less the kitchen sink please.
Aside from that it's really fun to print but it's good to follow up on safety for this.
Thank you soo much for this guide... This was exactly what I was looking for.
Gonna link this in my next video. 👍👍👍
Man I'm so excited, this is exactly the type of video I was hoping to find!!! Thank you so much!!

I gotta drop a thank you, this video as well as your vid on failures not only got me into 3D printing, I making some really cool stuff, and learning a few tricks too. This vid is great, the printer I ended up getting was the Anycubic Photon Mono 4K and it makes some real nice quality prints. Made a few minis, and 1/10 scale figures so far.
