I had this procedure done to my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. My question is: Is this a permanent fix? I am afraid that when driving on the freeway, it will suddenly freeze, causing an accident. Thanks for the video!

You don't need to be concerned about the steering not working. This sensor is used in the power assist system. While the sensor is a known failure item causing the assist to stop working, even in the event that the assist stops working, the steering will still function, just a little stiffer than usual. Assist is mostly for parking lot maneuvers/low speeds, the steering will still feel mostly normal at highway speeds.

What exactly do you mean about off brands using a different torque theory.

In the video, I show you the 'nibs' on the discs. One on the angle disc, and below a smaller one for the torque. These fit into the steering column shaft keyway. The column turns these as the steering wheel is turned. On the aftermarket ones, there is no 'nib' on the torque disc, it seems to be done only by friction.
