  • For this video, instead of just doing the usual 'vlog' type video, I wanted to try 24FPS and just see how the look of the video differed from my more usual 50 or 60 FPS.
So what did I see? It does slightly remove you from the 'reality' of 50 or 60FPS and looks more like a historic type of record.
The video does seem to take on a different mood/look overall. It seems more serious.
You have to be careful how you video in order to reduce any possible 'jitter' to a minimum. movement within the frame looks fine, but panning or moving the camera so that the whole image moves can create judder.
When movement is under control, it seems faster than it was in real life. (When we were on the swing)
It's a lot easier to manage on a computer.
It's a useful 'tool' to add to your arsenal of video making because once you try it and see for yourself on your own video playback system, the differences become obvious to you although it is quite hard to describe exactly what it is.
On showing the video to Helena and Lucy, it seemed to grab their attention more even though not a lot is happening in the video.
I might have a play around with 24 FPS for anything more serious because it does have a different 'look' about it.......

Alright, Ian. 24FPS, now you’re cinematic 😂 Great test mate and you both look like you’re having some fun 👍 Going round the bend 😂 Cheers, Dave.

It’ll be costumes next. I think a I might treat myself to a tripod. This was more the ‘verismo’ look of the handheld camera. I think next time it’s full cinematic……

It does look different and cinematic! Fun to try this and see how it fits. I gravitate to 30 because it doesn't have that immediate, hyper-real quality, but is more computer (and judder) friendly. Cheers!

Yes, I’m not sure it’s so useful for everyday vlog type stuff because it takes on a more ‘serious’ look, so for that kind of thing, I think 30 or 60 might be more useful. However, for more impact say visiting somewhere historical, 24 FPS can actually help perhaps. The judder thing is something you have to watch out for and be way more careful with the wat that you video. For faster movements, I don’t think it would be great. I was just curious about the look of a place I had previously made a vlog in at 60 FPS and there is quite a difference in feel.

Thank you. I’ve got 24 fps down to a fine art now! Quite different to videoing in 30 or 60. Add diffusion and it becomes something completely different! It really changes your outlook and the way that you video.

hi, i have seen some of u'r videos, looks like u have a huge experience with camcorders (quite rare those days :) )
do u have experience with exporting live *4K* from a camcorder to external recording like PC with a 4K capture card ?
i wonder which sub 1000$ camcorders can do it, looks like the AX53 can't.

Thank you. I have never exported live from camcorder to pc. I’m simple video person who works probably in a very old fashioned way! I’ve used cameras since the 60’s when I used a Super 8 film camera. Editing was a nightmare. Let alone exposure.
My CZcams mate, David Harry knows a lot more about video capture and he would be able to help you in that regard. He is a mine of info.
