Swanage is a great place to visit and the last time we went there, we missed so much. This time we decided to go twice, so this is the first trip where we just wandered in shops.
From a video viewpoint, these kinds of things can be tricky to video well because lighting varies so dramatically both outside and inside. It's quite an ask from any camera; let alone an action camera like the Osmo Action 4. Outside, you can get large swings in weather and colour temperature and inside, poor lighting that varies from tungsten to LED.
So white balance and exposure can be a real challenge. Added to that is capturing decent (ish) audio in such varied places. Also with noise and traffic going on around you.
Add to that that what you might be doing might not be the most exciting thing in the world, so how do you make a 'story' out of it so that you feel as though you've seen something interesting rather than just a log.
These kinds of videos are typical of what so many people want to record and it is laden with difficulties. Yet many videographers might turn their noses up at Vlogging!

It's a Poole bear with a Swanage t-shirt 🤣 Great video, Ian. Looks like the perfect vlogging and 'off the cuff' travel camera. Cheers, Dave.

Hi Dave. I do say some daft things when they let me out. Nice to chat yesterday. Cheers.

Wow! The color and light differences inside the shops really demonstrates the range and quality of the OA4. Very impressive and also love that area of your country. I have friends who live nearby and had the pleasure of visiting that area a few years ago but not long enough to really see it as you have shown it. Thanks.

Thank you. On this video, I wanted to see how the camera worked in different lighting conditions and I honestly think that it’s the best I’ve had so far. The colour temperature is set really accurately; even in mixed lighting and also when it’s pretty low. I was using the Action 4 in pretty poor lighting on occasions and normally wouldn’t have bothered with a GoPro.

They’re part of it all as well. Believe me, even though the camera is fast to use, I often miss really funny moments and chats that would be great to capture! They’re both great fun to video because they’re both lovely characters. Way better looking than me on video as well!

Hi Ian hope you're well. Great video/vlog it was interesting to watch someone elses view of somewhere i've filmed/vlogged many times, shame you didn't get to see our plague, last time we were there we didn't get to see it or polish it as they had a load of building material on it. karen's into the cystals so we always visit both of those shops, shame the other one closed down, they seemed to have a better selection. I'm not a fan of fudge, but my late father was, so i was always instucted to bring back some fudge for him. The Curiousty shop is fantastic you need a good hour in there, suprised nothing was purchased from corfe bears, Karen has one waiting to be collected, so as you've probably guessed we'll be there soon. The action 4 is great, i was considering getting a GP11 as the prce may fall when the 12 comes out, but I may go for the action. looking forward to your next Swanage visit.
    Best wishes stay safe Jon

Hi Jon. The rain had us running, but in the second trip (coming up) we went to Corfe and Swanage again. We went onto the pier then and couldn’t find the plaque! I can’t believe how many there are on that pier. I had a vague idea where it is, or at least I thought it was but we walked up and down; all three of us looking for it! I videod the search as proof!!!
The next video has the train and pier area. I split the video into two and ended this one with ‘we’ll be back!’
We spent the last day in Corfe and Swanage. (Friday) Then we did a run home and drove back to Kent that night. (Last night) That makes the journey easier for us because traffic jams can be horrendous. We did the trip home really easily as a result and we’re home last night at around 9:30pm instead of having to get out this morning by 10am and then face traffic.
I’m sticking with the Action. I really like the way it deals with very tricky lighting. Really, this was a test of how the colour temperature is handled in different conditions. I didn’t have to change the balance of one shot.
Great idea for a video …… Let’s Pick Up a Bear!
