  • 5 Ways to Improve Your Mix - Today’s video looks at 5 ways to improve your mix. We go over some of the most common finishing touches that I like to add to my mixes to improve them by that last few percent. As a disclaimer, not every technique will work on every single track, but sometimes one or two of them will make all the difference.
This video looks at adding harmonic distortion, reverb, side chain compression, volume automation and high pass filters. It is aimed at beginner to intermediate producers, engineers and musicians.
    Topics and Timings:
    1. Intro (0:00 - 1:11)
    2. #1 - The Drums (1:11 - 2:21)
    3. #2 - Reverb (2:21 - 3:35)
    4. #3 - Side Chain Compression (3:35 - 4:55)
    5. #4 - Volume Automation (4:55 - 6:37)
    6. #5 - High Pass Filter (6:37 - 8:01)
    7. Final Thoughts (8:01 - 8:54)

One of the most common problems I have with my mixes is, when I have heard them over and over again, I have to fight the desire to make changes for the sake of change rather than what is good with the sound. Some of the tracks I am working on, I have had problems getting singers, as I have awful vocals, and some of the backings are over a year od. I am working with a session singer, but the mixes I am incorporating the vocals into sounds tired and uninspiring. Is this because of my boredom threshold, or is it a problem with the mix itself?

Pretty entry level stuff here. Anyone else wonder why her mixes all sound so amateurish and her videos come across like she's just reading a script of stuff she's read online? The cheap, basic gear in the background hardly screams pro studio either. I guess my genuine question is, what qualifies her to be giving mix advice? I googled her and couldn't find any mixing credits either. Great to see a female 'mix engineer and producer' and all but there's some serious credibility issues here. I'm not trying to an ass...I'm just telling it like I sees it.

Lovely to hear from you again mr Lizardspawnofdeath and to see you’re still following my videos. I have released my self produced music on Spotify that you can find here (open.spotify.com/artist/583FFrEQxFvCCiPgmzh8d3?si=zbT0jXRASpKSjhitl4jcyw&dl_branch=1). I give advice based off my experience and have never once claimed that my word is golden, I simply share what works for me. As for my gear, I use products that I genuinely like. The KALI monitors are far from amateur. I also have a home studio set up (like much of my audience) and while I would love to work within a top recording studio with the “pro setup”, unfortunately that is not where I am in my career yet (I’m 20 years old). My main aim with this channel is to encourage beginners, creativity and to demystify engineering. If you would like to provide some content to collaborate on, I’d be very up for that and we can see how that works out :)

@@ThirdFret exactly at least you are doing your best and for sure people are learning from it aswell . And this guy over here is a keyboard warrior . Ignore him and mind you that skrillex made a Grammy winning track on a like 10 or 100$ headphones it’s the skill not the gear. All the best for ur future for sure u will go a long way as long as ur putting in the hard work period

Funny, you became an ass without even trying to be an ass! 😂🤣😅
If you knew anything about her you'd know her channel is geared towards beginners, home recording artists, creators on a budget. Go back to your distorted anthrax covers! 🙄

You are a jerk buddy. If you don't have something nice to say, just keep your opinions to yourself. You don't have to be CLA to give advice. Keep it up third fret!
