- Run Disney World Marathon, the Dopey Challenge of 2020 was an amazing race. Great Disney characters on the course, ran the whole race with friends, wonderful crowds, this marathon through all 4 Disney World parks had everything.
It was a very warm day for a run, but with some adjusting of the speed we got through it just fine.
This fourth race in the Dopey Challenge was the best of all four races, and it sure was a lot of fun to run.

Huge respect to Michael!!! That looked painful but he showed some serious guts to do the whole thing in that costume. Must have been like running in sweat suit. I am Groot... yeah we know. Have a great day my friend and I am really excited for Star Wars in April but there is NO WAY I am running in a storm trooper costume. I’m skinny enough as it is I don’t need to lose any more weight in sweat...
Hahaha, ok, no Storm Trooper for you. You never know what the weather will do in Florida, but I think we can count on some humidity in April. Can't wait.
I've done 2 half marathons in 2019 (Star Wars and Wine n Dine). I'm getting ready for the 2022 marathon on Jan 9. This was a great video to illustrate to my daughter what I'll be doing while she sleeps in the hotel room.
😂😂 yeah, these runs are mostly done when other people are still sleeping and have no idea this is going on. 😂 I'm signed up for 2022, so if I can travel I hope to see you there.

yeah, he stuck it out. It was a rough race for him, but we had a great time and I love the pictures we got.
At 2:13 I can be heard shouting good luck everyone! I was also blasting Duran Duran in my hand sized speaker the entire marathon and started playing Rio once we took off. I am used to running under 3 hours and 30 minutes, but due to summer weather that day, it took me 3:58:33 to run this. I still had a great time nevertheless, and I'll be back next year. I started walking after mile 20 at 2:46 in the marathon because I could not take the pain in my legs and also I was very dehydrated! I am the runner with the elitefeats jersey and I can be found somewhere between 2:15-2:20 of this video.

Thanks. You don't have to go full costume. If you find a printed shirt and add the right items to it you can go a long way and still be comfortable on your run. It is a lot of fun, so highly recommend to dress for the part for your first Disney run. Good luck, I'm sure you're going to love it. Wish I could be there, hopefully 2023 again.
I may be a little late to the party! but this video was extremely inspiring, you guys taking your time to interact with the characters and DJs and having a blast rather than just speeding through the course was awesome. Spotted myself a few times in your video. I leap frogged with you group from the Cars photostop to past Blizzard Beach. Passed you on the way to Hollywood and that was it. Watched this several times as it essentially was a representation of most of my race...except I started in C corral.
That's awesome, it's a great memory to have I think. That's what I love about making these videos too, I don't really look back at my videos a lot, but I know that years from now I can still look back at all the cool races that I've done. It's like sort of a video diary on youtube. :-)

This video is so 🙌🏼. I literally relived every single mile of Dopey 2020. The trek to Magic Kingdom on the full was brutal! Your vids are awesome and thanks for the Disney memories! Way better then my handheld GoPro footage. One month ago but seems like yesterday!

I film with a gimbal, it really makes a big difference. It takes a little getting used to having to carry it the whole time, but it does change your video a lot. 👍🏻

Thank you for this video Arno! As we are less than 2 weeks from what should have been WDW Marathon weekend, this brought a smile to my face. One day we will have the joy of running races again at WDW. I swore I would never run Dopey again, but I may need to run it again as a celebration to the return of live races at Disney! I just signed up for my first Dopey challenge (2021) and I’ve been watching a lot of RunDisney race recap videos during quarantine, and I am crying! This video brought me to tears as well! I’ll never be as fast as you, but I am feeling so inspired. Can’t wait to be running at Disney again. I hope your eye has healed!

I was a little worried when it first happened, but I had a check up when I got home and the doctor said it would be perfectly fine, so that was good to hear. I can't wait for another Disney race either. This year was supposed to be filled with Disney races for me, but looks like I'll have to wait until next year now.

Amazing as always! Slowing down within the beating heat is perfectly normal. Weather conditions can really affect one's speed, it's extremely windy in The Netherlands right now for example (As you probably know) and it makes me slow down allot too.
YukasMarvin yes, I’m supposed to be doing speed runs for my training, but all the wind is making it tough.

Yeah, the Disney Marathon is really a race I can recommend. Michael regretted his costume, but still had a great time though. His costumes are always great, but this one was pushing comfort a bit. :-)

This is an amazing video! I'm trying to run the 5k at Disney (my first 5k ever!) and after seeing this video I realize I really want to prep for the marathon eventually!

RunArnoRun Morning, Arno. I think the reason my wife and I enjoyed it the most was because of the overall atmosphere. Everybody seemed to enjoy it, yourself and the other runners, and also the crowd/volunteers. Lots of great photo opportunities too. The sound and video quality was also crystal clear. It’s made us strongly consider a Paris Disneyland running trip.

Awesome video man. Not going to lie, you're one of my inspirations for wanting to film RunDisney at Disneyland Paris this year. Out of curiosity, what camera did you use for this video? If it was the GoPro Hero 8 then may I ask what settings you used for the low light shots at the start of the video?
Thanks, that's great to hear. I actually used my GoPro Hero 7, because I was worried about the darkness in the morning. The 8 seems to have issues with this, so figured to be on the safe side just use the 7 for this.
Watched your half and full video again, because I am writing those race recaps in my journal and wanted to know the character list. Did you know that there were 19 stops during the half and 33 during the full (yes, I counted the 3 animal stops, the adventure club and the movie director as well)?!
I did write down my thoughts right after the full/Dopey. John said "one and done" and I said I was cured from Dopey from a few years (all this was due to the heat). Funny, how 2 months later I seem to have forgotten all about it and can't wait to do it again :P
Yeah, it's a great reminder to have, all the character stops on in the video. My plan was to do Dopey again in 2022, but it's already itching again now to do it in 2021, specially now that Star Wars got cancelled. I've been very excited the last few months knowing that this year I would have a lot more Disney runs than last year, but now it got cancelled. Looking forward to September now, I assume races will be back on again then.
I definitely didn’t enjoy this course as much as past courses. Did like them adding back in the early Epcot miles, but not so much on the Blizzard Beach..
Blizzard Beach would have been fun if it had more going on, parts just looked like an abandoned swimming pool. 😂 I actually liked the part through ESPN, I know a lot of people don’t, but kinda missed that in the course.

JGlennFL thanks, yeah I didn’t want to leave Michael by himself, he was having a real hard time with the heat, plus he had just been ill. Yes, that was Gerald, right when he crossed the street my battery ran out. I also saw him cross the finish line, I stayed at the bleachers after the race.
Fellow A-corraller here. I don’t think I saw you guys, but it was so hot and I was pretty miserable from the 3 days prior so I didn’t stop for character pics last year. Amazing bounce control on that camera!
They interviewed us most days and showed us on the screen too, maybe you saw us there. It was a pretty brutal day that day. 😀 The gimbal I use keeps the camera pretty steady, it’s a lot to carry with me on my run, but really makes a difference in how the footage looks.
I want to do this, sadly I live in Canada, I would run the whole thing, dont care to take pics or stop, but amazing video!, love this video, really love the music, very inspirational, I usually run 11 miles, ran a half marathon in 2017 got 1 hour 43 minutes
I can highly recommend these runs, they are so much fun to do. It’s expensive with travel and all, but well worth it I think. If I was able to travel there I would be running this weekend. 1:43 is a really good time for a half marathon, nice job.
This is one of my favorite marathon videos. I signed up for the 2021 Disney Marathon but IT Band problems kept me out. I’m aiming now for 2024.

Rob van D Hahaha, I just saw Bad Boys in the theatre this weekend. 👍🏻 Michael was in bad shape, we still had a bunch of fun together though. I was happy to slow down with him, we got some really great photos together. I love our finish photo.

That’s awesome, are you going for face paint? I still want to so that some day. The prep time just seems a hassle, specially with those early morning runs, but I’d love to do it. Wonder how the make up would hold though.
Anyways, I used a bunch of safety pins to secure him and keep him sitting straight up. Make sure you have something between the pins and your skin though so it doesn’t hurt you while running.

I was thinking of vlogging the process and I've recently acquired a GoPro Hero 9. It looks like you use a stabilizer...could I ask what kind if you do? Thank you, and thanks for the great videos!
Hi, thank you so much, that is great to hear. I do use a gimbal. The one I use is the Feiyutech G6, they don't have an adapter for the Hero9 yet though, so it doesn't fit on there. I also use the Zhyune Crane M2, this fits different camera sizes, also the Hero9. Only thing for me that is a drawback for that one is that it's not waterproof. I did some videos where I test the Hero9 against the gimbal and also some reviews on thee gimbals, you might find this helpful. When you film while walking the Hero9 performs great, but if you want to film while running, a gimbal is still your best friend. I ran the 2020 Disney World Marathon. Such a fun (and hot and humid) day!
It was sooo hot that day, but still had a great time running, those races are just amazing.

Razz 59 I have the Jelly Belly Sports Beans, black bag, is the assorted flavors. I also have some pink ones, but not sure what flavor that is. 😀
How did you get Groot to stay?! Working on something similar for another race...
I used safety pins to pin it to my shirt at a couple points to try and keep it from shaking too much.

What would happen if someone got first in the marathon?
They have prizes for this marathon. I don't know if they have money prizes, but I know they have special Disney trofee's.
Why it didn’t go through the ESPN this year?
I think they just wanted to mix it up and since the water park was closed now it was a good chance to run through there. Also a lot of people always complain about running through ESPN, so maybe that had something to do with it. I kinda liked running through ESPN though, so don't mind if they will change it back.
Never saw a marathon vid from corral A.
Haha, yeah, costumes and cameras are a bit more rare in corral A. 😄

@@jerseyforhawks I did 2018, it was really cold then too. Wasn't there a lot of rain in 2017? This year it was really hot, that made it pretty tough, but I still think I prefer that over rain and cold.
Close, it rained and thundered for the Half, which was cancelled. Then from Sat night to Sun AM, temps plummeted with gusty breeze, ground super soggy, catching many off guard. Can not wait for next chance though. Your vlog was quite helpful, and it looked like you and crew had a blast. Your friend Mike, wins best attitude and perseverance award.
