- Hi everyone, welcome to Abbey's Kitchen! In today’s highly request episode of What I Eat In A Day CZcamsr reviews, I will be taking a look at Sweet Potato Soul!
A few disclaimers:
1) The information in this video is for education and entertainment purposes only, so you should always speak to a health care provider about your unique health needs.
2) The recommendations for each individual meal I review is designed to give you a variety of ideas on how to optimize meals for balance, variety and satiety. Whether or not one individual meal or even one day is balanced or “healthy” does not matter in the grand scheme of ones health, especially if a person is eating in response to their physical and emotional needs. I give suggestions as examples and inspiration for you, but you can also gather this data for yourself over time by listening to your own body and figuring out what feels good.
3) Please be kind in the comments, here and on Jenne's channel
4) TRIGGER WARNING: some graphics and discussions may be disturbing to some viewers so feel free to skip this video.
5) Don’t forget to subscribe to this channel and ring the little bell so you never miss out!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE JENNE!!! because of her, I have incorporated SO MANY plant based meals into my everyday diet!! I can listen to her talk all day because her voice is so so soothing
That's great!
me too - she has changed my life - have been following her for years - she is so inspirational
yesss i stan her
I agree! She just makes me feel so calm... truly enjoy her channel
And did it make any diffrence?
I've been such a big fan of Jenne for a few years now. I'm so happy to see following grow now, she deserves it so so much!
😊❤️
Same!!!
A video on rice and arsenic would be interesting. I wasn't aware of this issue.
Madeline Adams yes I would like to hear about this as well!
Adam Ragusea made a video about this a few months ago!
On the list to do
As @mochimochiXneko said, you should check out Adam Ragusea’s video on this topic.
While on gluten free diet (because of grain allergies), it would be intetesting to know how cooked rice and rice flour differ in the levels of arsenic. I've understood that cooking in water lowers the levels. Does this also happend to rice noodles? Also it would be nice to know, if one can help to drop arsenic levels by cooking rice in a right way.
Abbey: explains baby food
Me: already prepares a meal plan in my head for my future baby
😄
😂👍
Haha, right? My fiancé and I don’t have kids yet, but we went on a walk today and talked the entire time about Abbey’s suggestions for BLW and neutral food choices, etc.
Me too🤣🤣
Random 🙃 Video idea.... I would love a “how to talk to our children about body positivity” language to maybe try avoiding etc. my daughter is 15 months and I was recently catching myself talking negatively about my body 🤦♀️ I do it “jokingly” or “sarcastically” but thought to myself I never want her to feel inadequate because I somehow projected my own insecurities on her. I am generally very happy in my plus size body, but old habits die hard, I still catch myself saying things like “I feel fat today” or “delete that picture I look enormous”
anyway love your videos 🙌🏻
Thank you for the suggestion!
Just wanted to say I love that you’re conscious of it and getting ahead of it!! My mom, who I love, definitely had some bad self talk that I’m still unlearning.
I really like this idea!
Yes!! Abbey please do this
That’s so awesome that you are cognizant of that! We develop our insecurities young, so it’s so awesome that you are thinking about that. One this I REALLY recommend, is not to make positive comments about their body either (not their hair or stuff like that, as that won’t change throughout their life) (also if the comment about their body is about what their body can do, that’s amazing, I’m talking about comments about how it looks) my mom, grandma, and in general just a lot of my moms side of the family always praised me for being thin because I was a super tiny kid. I was constantly praised for it and in middle school my mom constantly told me how jealous she was of how thin I was. Then when I gained weight and was no longer stick thin (I’m still relatively thin, but I used to be like 1 like inch thick gap thin) I panicked and hated my body with a passion. I feared every pound and stretch mark I gained, and I can only assume that a lot of that is due to putting so much of my worth and identity into my weight staring for a super young age. I just wanted to let you know😉
I appreciate your deliberately inclusive language and how you always humanize and value the person behind the content even as you provide critique and advise.
😊👍
I love her! I’m not Vegan, but I like to incorporate more plant based foods in my diet and I use so many of her tips!
That's great!
None of us were vegan before either. If we can do it so can you!
WOW! I love this review and I have to go follow Sweet Potato Soul now. That girl is a beast in the kitchen! The last video, I think it was All Things Adrienne, left me feeling so, so hangry and empty inside. I'm happy you found someone that knows how to eat without being weird.
So glad it was helpful!
You should she’s the best
My main take-away from this video review: "Galactagogue"! This sounds like a powerful space being. I want to name a band "Galactagogue". I love Sweet Potato Soul! Wonderful food. I'm glad you clarified your critique of really high fiber. I often get up to 75-80 g of fiber and it doesn't bother me, but I remember it took a while to adjust. I hate FEELING bloated, especially before bed.
Glad that was helpful
Do you ever look at someone so gorgeous you want to cry? That’s how I feel when I look at Jenne😂 her baby is adorable too, and they both have the best hair in the world. Love this video Abbey! I’ve seen Jenne a few times, but I’m still not super familiar with her, so I will definitely go check out her channel!
😊❤️
She must get it from her mom :)
Is the baby really vegan?
lynncrf I’m pretty sure. It can be totally safe as long as they are getting all of the protein and nutrients they need. Even stuff like iron and B12 which is rarely/never found in plants can be are often added to things like cereals, but milks etc. As long as a doctor is monitoring it it’s okay, at least from what I’ve heard (BTW I’m not vegan, just sharing info)
@@emmakilburg9221 Thanks. I more meant if the mother is feeding the baby a fully vegan diet or whether it is only part vegan.
FINALLYYYY! I love J so much 😩😭❤️ shes the reason why I have incorporated more plant based meals cause I always thought vegan food was unseasoned 💔
😊❤️
You're speaking facts!
Jenne would *never* give up her seasoning/ spices/ sauces.
Jenne is amazing...her Oyster Mushroom Carnitas recipe is INCREDIBLE...I have to double the recipe because my non vegan family tears it up! (Plus you can whip it up in the instant pot.)
Yum!
Hey Abbey, I was wondering if you could do a series on the "healthiest" cuisine in the world. Like doing a deep dive into what Okinawans, Koreans, Iceland(ers?), Spainiards, etc. eat, what makes it so healthy, and touching on other factors like exercise, genetics, and anything else I'm not thinking of. And I think it would be cool to learn about some unexpected things in their diet. For example, Koreans eat a lot a lot of salt but they're still healthy!! It's interesting and I dont know why the salt doesn't catch up to them but it does for western diets.
I've seen other videos like this but they seem kind of.... diety to me. Hopefully other people will upvote this if they'd find it interesting. Or make their own comments.
Yes, basically a Dietitian's take on the Blue Zone diet?
@Minerva A This has never been confirmed beyond speculation, it could easily be environmental or genetic. Keep in mind many Asian cultures have very similar diets yet not the same rates of stomach cancer.
@Minerva A Health is a combination of mostly genes, enviroment, and somewhat diet. The most notable thing a person can do diet wise is not eat excessively (currently the leading cause of diet related illnesses, such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes) and get a good range of foods in. Other than that it's genetics and luck.
Thanks for the suggestion!
@@AbbeysKitchen 💙
Hi Abbey!
This is unrelated, but can you sometime touch upon physical consequences of stress and appetite suppression that comes with anxiety?
Thanks for the suggestion!
THAT'S WHY I'M NOT HUNGRY?!
This shit should come with a manual.
From a therapist's standpoint, when you're anxious, your body is in survival mode. This kicks in a ton of different systems to keep you alive. If your anxious, your body is thinking that it needs to run from the trigger, hide from it, or freeze to not be seen. When adrenaline is high, some other functions like hunger don't get kicked in until you feel safe since you're vulnerable when eating.
yes please talk about this Abbey ☺️
Ashley J. Zayas interesting! I am aware that I run on adrenaline. I am one of those people who when very stressed do not eat. During lockdown I was loosing so much weight while people were gaining. It sounded good to my heavier friends but it’s awful if you can’t control the fact that you cannot eat!
“All nursing people” hearing that made me so happy! Kudos for being inclusive with your language!
Thank you
I’m sorry I just don’t understand your statement. Do you mean when someone is bottle feeding their child?
I assume they mean including all genders by saying nursing people instead of nursing mamas
@@olly2027 I think what Abby meant by "nursing people" is that not everyone who is biologically capable of lactation identifies as female?
M C thank you.
I’ve never heard of Jenne’s channel! Thank you so much for introducing her - she seems like an absolute gem. Going to follow right now. I love that whether intentional or not, BLM has brought many amazing creators into the spotlight! I’m pretty sure the algorithm preferentially shows me white creators, which like, totally not helpful CZcams.
Glad you enjoyed it
@samantha pantridge it's absolutely intentional! This isn't anything new, especially on Tumblr in particular. The BLM movement has yielded Blackout events where non-black content creators will take a step back from posting their own content for a day or a week to instead promote the content of black creators over the past few years
YASSS! Love this video. Thank you for the review. Looking forward to seeing more BIPOC people (good and needing growth in the nutrition scale) on the channel 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Glad you enjoyed!
ABBEY 😭😭💖💖
someone mentioned this below so i think thats why I'm noticing it, especially more, but as someone whos trans, thank you so much for all the inclusive language.
like saying nursing people, and people who are menstruating.
its so nice to hear
Yay... I have been waiting for you to do this one!!!! So excited, thank you!
😊
I haven't seen any of her videos yet but this makes me want to! Great video. Thank you for being inclusive to all different diets.
😊👍
Abby I love how you’ve created a science based as well as progressive space to talk about food. I think people need this, and it’s just so nice to watch someone who has taken a lot of time to make sure their content are welcoming and respectful to your viewers ^^
Love both of you, so this video was great for me! Your attitude about nutrition, veganism and ed are all so refreshing and inspiring ❤️
Thank you ❤️
I absolutely love Jenne and her channel! Thanks for reviewing her.
😊👍
These videos are some of my favorite to watch! You NEED to check out Jaclyn Forbes’ ‘what I eat in a days’. She’s vegan and doesn’t have green smoothies for breakfast everyday! Also, Jenn Im is the sweetest little CZcamsr who is very fond of her Asian cooking and has a few WIEIAD videos as well!
I'll have a look!
Yes I second Jaclyn
and Jaclyn is from Toronto! Would love to see a video featuring my fave canadians!!
When its not a moody “frugivore” on the other end of the video its very pleasant to watch! I really enjoyed this video!
So glad
Lol u talkin about freelee? 😂
"Im hungry again. I just finished feeding the baby"
Oh man I feel this so deep in my soul. I have never expierenced a hunger like I did when exclusively pumping and nursing. Insatiable and all consuming is the ONLY way to describe it.
What sucked for me was we ended up having to evacuate for a few weeks during this time. Ugh.
Oh gosh brutal but agree it is an INSANE hunger
Love your content!!! V helpful for my ED recovery.. i think about having balanced meals that would make you proud!
good luck wuth your recovery❤
I'm so glad!
Same. Every time I'm putting together a meal, I ask myself "what would Abbey think of this?"
I love your constructive comments and suggestions you give her. So nice to see you look at a sane and healthy eater (as well as eating great looking food). Love your inclusive language.
Thank you!
Now, THIS is one that I'm excited for!!
😊👍
"menstruating people" "breastfeeding people" ahh language is so important, thank you for being inclusive! :)
YESSSS! I also loved this!!
😊😊
I heard her say that and immediately had to think of jk rowling lol
Was just hopping down to the comments to say the same!
I smiled so big when I heard :)
watching your videos have helped me start the recovery from my eating disorder, so thank you very much!!
I'm so glad!
YES!!! This is the one I have been waiting for! Thank you 😊❤️❤️
😊❤️
I love this review! And also a big thank you to you Abbey- you've become one of my fav accounts on CZcams and one of the few I actually subscribe to!! Keep it up and keep educating and sharing your knowledge!
So glad !!
Coming from binge eating and on my path to recovery, channels like yours, Sweetpotatosoul and PickupLimes just make me feel so much more relaxed around food. And excited to try new recipes, and taking me away from the diet mentality. I love the nutritious and delicious recipes you gals test out and recommend, I'm so so grateful.
Thank you for sharing! I'm so glad
Wow if she could just cook my meals for me I could definitely be plant based! These meals look amazing!
I love her and just got her cookbook. I’ve been eating plant based for several months, and her videos have really inspired me to “eat out of the box,” meaning experimenting with new dishes and eating a balanced diet.
Everyone needs to get her Sweet Potato Soul cookbook!!! It's so amazing!
😊👍
Yayyy my recommendation made it! Love Jenné! 💚 Thanks Abbey!
😊❤️
Thank you for introducing me to Jenne! Gonna go binge myself on Sweet Potato Soul videos so I can integrate some of these amazing meals into my diet. The homemade tempeh also looked so amazing! I definitely cannot make it at home, so seeing her make it herself is seriously impressive. I'm so excited to see her recipes and cooking videos! 😊
Glad you enjoyed!
Oh I love Sweet Potato Soul!! I use her cookbook, especially when I am cooking for meat-eaters. (It goes over well, FYI!) your choices for WIEIAD reviews have been great, Abby. Glad to see some more veg/vegan selections.
I should say- I am glad you are reviewing more veg/vegan reviews that are good, like healthy and not restrictive or problematic.
I also like the idea of doing a video on arsenic in rice, and maybe a milk alternative video? I’ve noticed different mills (A2, soy, coconut, hemp, rice...) all have very different nutritional values and practical uses. I add A2 in there for those of us who drink plant based milk because of a casein intolerance.
Thank you! So glad
I seriously love your channel. Keep up the good work!!!
Love this! Hope your pregnancy is going well and you’re staying safe! ❤️🌈
I suggest adding Jaclyn Forbes to your list to review!
Thank you, on the list!
I adore Jenne!! She has such a lovely energy about her and her channel makes so hungry!!
😊
I was literally waiting for your video , thanks Abbey for giving us entertainment and knowledge together
So glad it is helpful!
I'd LOVE to see the rice video! I'd also love to see a video about what to look for in a supplement. I noticed you have the Amazon link to supplements, but sometimes I find them so overwhelming!
Thanks for the suggestions!
I second this! Especially the supplement comment and when you should take what supplement!
I've been watching more of your vids lately. Really enjoying you! I think YT is suggesting you more? Idk but I'm glad. I'm seeing thumbnails for some of your previous posts that I can't wait to watch.
So glad!!
Love Sweet Potato Soul!🧡 Yes, please do a vid on rice and arsenic.
👍👍
It’s so funny, yesterday I was searching through your channel to see who you’ve reviewed that I regularly watch. Lo and behold, today we have one I watch all the time! Awesome review, thanks for all the information as always and for being kind :).
So glad you enjoyed!
Very interesting! I came across her channel when she was pregnant and thought her meals looked great. I also liked the way she talked about nutritional details as well. Loved hearing/ learning more with your commentary.
So glad
Great video as always. I also want to say thank you for introducing me to hemp hearts. As a diabetic, I struggle to get more iron and protein in general. And now that my body is having a negative reaction to beef and chicken, it is even more difficult. So thanks again.
I'm so glad that was helpful!
Watching your videos really give me a sense what a normal eating pattern should look like.
I went from extremes to extremes because I never learned eating patterns that made me happy. I was slowly but surely gaining weight throughout my teenage years due to developing binge eating at a very young age (around 11 years old?)
These Instagram and CZcams eating patterns look like they make sense when they are really lacking and not sustainable. I really like the evidence based approach and will reprogram my brain into a healthy and joyful relationship with food.
As a student I could never afford a dietitian.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm so glad it is helpful
Wow never been this early before, I love your reviews btw 🤩
Thank you!
You Tube suggested this channel to me since I'm a huge fan of Sweet Potato Soul. I really enjoyed this video. Instant subscriber.
I wanted to eat all the meals in these videos! Really loved this review ❤️
So glad
Do you require additional protein compared to carbs and fat when breastfeeding? I wasn't quite sure that's what you said. This time around I am trying hard to curb my extreme sweet tooth that I had last time while breastfeeding and it's definitely been easier but mostly I've been making sure my snacks were more balanced for the macronutrients (my meals have always been quite good).
I love that this includes some baby meal information too! I would love a rice/arsenic video!!!
👍👍
Her cookbook was so helpful to me incorporating more plant based days in my diet.
👍👍
I would love to see a video about arsenic in rice. My pediatrician recommended I stay away from rice cereal specifically for this reason and I would love to hear more about it.
On the list!
I wish I had seen this video back when I was breastfeeding my twins. A couple years after 2 years of breastfeeding and switching to a plant-based diet, I did get a blood test and found out my iron stores were basically down to nothing. I have finally built them back up and feel great but if any new mom is struggling with fatigue years after breastfeeding this could be something to look into. Not sure why but I am obsessed with the diet review videos as of late.
Will love to hear more about rice, and thanks for great content and show:). Have a great day!
Thanks for the suggestion!
Going to have to check out recipes Sweet Potato Soul! Thank you for sharing with us. And YES PLEASE on a rice video!
On the list!
Oh my goodness, so many delicious recipe ideas in this video! 🤤 Definitely going to subscribe to Jenne’s channel. Thanks for another great video, Abbey!
Glad you enjoyed!
Abbey, you are such a breath of fresh air. With everything going on, my usual CZcams "junk food" isn't doing it for me, but it is so nice to have your videos on in the background while I go about my day. It's great to have something to listen to that I can actually learn a little something from 🤣
So glad!
so refreshing to see how unbiased and objective your reviews are
Thank you!
I would love to hear you talk more about baby led weaning and tips on how to go about doing it☺️
Thanks for the suggestion. In the meantime, I have some videos about this topic on my channel: czcams.com/video/4ENkraCgYQ0/video.html
I love Sweet Potato Soul! We tried some of her weekly meal plans, and they are so good, and filling! We didn't even end up eating all of the food, and we spent around $30-$35 dollars for two people (and I tend to eat hefty meals).
Yes! Please do an arsenic and rice video! I eat rice all the time D:
obsessed w abbey saying “breastfeeding person” instead of gendering. health first! always!
Fair enough, but there are risks to transitioning too. There are serious risks from the treatments themselves, such as blood clots and strokes. Plus, we don't have enough long term research to see if these also increase cancer risks over one's life span.
Adults should be free to choose to transition for their mental health, but this should only be done with informed consent of the other risks. And sadly the physical health risks are never really discussed.
It's not as simple as health first.
Thank you for all the calcium and iron nutrition tips!! 👏🏽
Glad it is helpful!
I love your videos so much!!! I’m also an expecting momma and would love an updated “what I eat in a day” from you! ☺️
Thanks for the suggestion
I love that this is a mom and kid WIEIAD while breastfeeding! I think that it’s really important to include that part! With both of my kids I’ve found my appetite is so much larger with nursing than when I was pregnant. Keep up the great information 💜
So glad it is helpful!
I love her so much! I'm not vegan but I watch her regularly. For the food, but also bc she has such a sweet vibe.
😊👍
I knew my girl J would come through, she’s amazing, love her! 💕
This was amazing to see a mom intuitively eating for her ultimate wellness... of love to see a review of one of Mina Rome’s what I eat as she seems to be an Uber intuitive eater!
I'll have a look
your positivity is inspiring :)
Thank you!
I love Jenne’s videos. So glad you reviewed her 😄
Glad you enjoyed
I liked this video before it began, based solely off the title, because I love Jenne. I knew it would be good, and I wasn't disappointed . :) Thanks, Abbey.
Glad you enjoyed!
Huge SPS fan! Thanks for making this. Also, I really love using black rice in the style of Korean purple rice - which is to add a small amount of it into white rice and cook it together. It cooks into a really nice shade of purple and adds a bit of extra nutritional value to white rice!
Thanks for sharing!
You look so cute, and thank you for sharing your knowledge about food and nutrition.
Yes, would definitely love to see a video about arsenic and rice.
Thank you! This topic is on the list 👍
Thanks for.doing the review. I love her and she sets a good example for.plant based eating.
😊👍
Hi! Just graduated doing nutrition and health and love your videos, they help bringing up new topics I can go away and research. A video on the rice and inorganic arsenic would be very helpful :)
On the list!
I'm obsessed with her!!!!! So glad you reviewed her videos!
Glad you enjoyed!
I LOVE oat flour for morning recipes too! I sometimes make pancakes out of them or even just a quick bread kind of situation. It has such great flavor and nutrients!
Yum!
Really appreciate this video, you really gave great tips for a vegan diet and of course I love sweet potato soul so much. Love this one abby.
Love how you speak positively on veganism! GO VEGAN👏🏻🌱
Thank you!
Pleeeease review Sorelle's Amore last video about her nutrition guidelines and how she eats!!!! She has almost one million subscribers and the claims she makes are just...
Thanks for your amazing videos!! Appreciate your effort so much!
I'll have a look
Oh my god the sheer amount of bullshit she spewed!!
Yes, please. It was so disturbing. I couldn't watch more than a couple of minutes and wanted to suggest you review her. Your advice is very needed!
oh boy lmao
When you mentioned supplements, Ritual, in this case. What's your take on personal supplement sites? Like Persona. Love your channel!
I'll put this on the list to discuss
Yes please! I would love for you to do a video on rice!
Why have I never heard about rice and arsenic? I’m so curious now and would totally watch a video if you made one on it🙋🏻♀️
On the list!
Me too
Yay!!! Finally! I am such a big fan of her.
Starting this video and immediately had to comment. Ok, now what’s Abbey going to say.😬🤪🙄🥰🙌🏽
Glad you enjoyed!
This is how I eat and I feel my best! I LOVE EXPERIMENTING, getting in all my nutrients, and not restricting :] Yes for this healthy vegan diet.
Abbey when are you going to do an obese persons diet and address those concerns? As a nurse in an operating room doing bariatric and orthopedic surgery, I can say obesity is an epidemic. You barely address it on your channel.
This topic is on the list to discuss
@@AbbeysKitchen Yes, please! I look forward to this topic, especially if you could give some tips on resisting stress/emotional eating.
I love jenne!
I'm definitely feeling like a lazy potato in the mom department after watching this lady. I'm over here struggling to make a nice meal for myself as well as my family.
😂
Don't feel bad - I think Jenne used to be a chef, and she runs a food CZcams channel.
Food literally was/ is her life!
thank you for this video dear Abbey! And yes we are interested in RICE topic haha
👍👍
Thank you for the video
I love watching abbey in the morning.
😊
Great video!!! Love Jenne’s food and attitude! Will def check her out! Keep up the good work:)
Oh and I completely agree with others noticing the inclusive language!
😊👍
This makes so much sense about the calories burned while nursing I was pumping 100-150oz on top of nursing... oversupply life
Omg girrrrrl you must have been starvinf
What is the supplement that she is taking? It sounds like she said it had B12, d3 etc AND omega 3 in the same pill? I've been searching for an all in one for ages, so I'm v curious!
It's a company called Ritual. I think Jenné had a discount code too that you may be able to use.
Who is this woman and why have I never heard of her? 😍 I loved her meals.
😊👍
I am really liking the new format for reviewing diets. I would love to see you look at Ellen Fisher again since her diet has changed a lot since the last time you reviewed her. Also it would be interesting to see a review on Naturally Stefanie
I'll have a look at both!
