The Lively Pick is an easy A/A+
It filled a massive need for the Mavs
I think it is a rating of each player's performance, and not of how well did the team pick

On performance Lively is easily an A/A+, especially considering he was the 12th pick, but I would also put him only at a B+ because he has only played in 55 of 82 games (27 games missed due to injury).
He’s one of their four core players moving forward, with Luka, Kyrie, and PJ.
This has aged extremely well
Lively at 12 was great value

Im not going to die on the hill for Bilal Coulibaly but I straight up dont think youve watched the kid. Hes been really solid for the Wizards and 34% from 3 really isnt bad for a rookie. That C grade was atrocious.
i watch every wizards game and i would give him B-. but he was drafted to be a long term project so grading him after one season won’t tell us much

Harsh grades. I think say bilal has high potential and lively is an easy A

I think C for Ausar is too low. He was a victim of Monty Williams' poor choices in Detroit (like playing Kilian Hayes in starting 5, what?). I think he's much better player than that and he'll show

Why is everyone getting graded as if they were a top 3 pick
In terms of fit and need, Lively is an A. He was taken at 12. Not 1.
Value is incredible. Half the teams that passed on him would swap him today for whoever they picked. A+ for sheer value.
Wemby isn't A+ is S tier
It’s not about the grade/tier of the player, it’s draft grade for the team base on how the drafted player performed. For a team that have the 1st overall pick, any team will go with Wenby anyway
scoot being C+ and amen being B- followed by amen being called a “solid perimeter defender” hes one of the best in the league
Gradey Dick is absolutely at least a B. He started the season getting no minutes and inconsistent as a shooter. Despite this, he still showed potential doing all the little things like defensive energy and aggressive rebounding. Over his last 40 games, he's been fantastic. He picked up the shooting and the scoring overall and has been an above average NBA player for his last 30 games. You gotta look beyond the season "per game" stats for these rankings man, come on
Exactly. He doesn't get enough credit. There were even raptors fans bashing him and writing him off after less than half a season in to his career
Basically, the creator is a case of "tell me you don't watch the Raptors without explicitly telling me that."

Okay now we know hes a casual cuz he clearly just a stat watcher. His gradey take tells me he hasnt watched a raptors game since january.
I think Lively and Cason Wallace should both be in the A range as they were much further in the draft and do everything that is needed of them. They are both on contending teams yet still have found ways to be valuable members of the rotation as a rookie which is typically extremely difficult.
B+ is close to an A, however Lively did miss 27 games due to injuries this season, which would be the only reason he wouldn't get an A grade from me.
OKC got a real good break when CW fell do them. He is not just good but will allow them to get some good assets for Gidney

I gotta respectful disagree with your Gradey Dick grade. While he did struggle early he's been playing really well lately and I don't think we can say he just shooting 36% as if 36% is nothing, that's really good for a rookie!
lively considering he was picked at 12 is an A+
Cason as a B- is wild. He is a great pick for the team considering the position the Thunder were in and what role/expectations the pick had.
Cason is prolly the most efficient rookie in this class. A B- is undermining it.

As a Mavs fan, Gaffords greatness may have been a factor. Lively is most definitely the perfect pick for the Mavs and having Gafford there takes pressure off!!!

Agree. He's the perfect big for Luka. Great rim running, lob threat, excellent hands, good passer, very long rkm protector. Why only a B+?
As a Mavs fan I can see the thinking being Gafford has been so amazing and took pressure of Lively that it also brought Liveleys grade down.

@SinaSoh Kleber has quick feet and can guard 1-5. I get the Powell hate but although hes inconsistent when shooting........ Kleber still plays solid D and helps when teams play small ball.

The Jazz are looking very intriguing. They nailed all 3 rookies with Hendricks, George, and Sensenbaugh. They have an early 1st, late 1st and early 2nd this year. They'll have 40+ mill in cap space, plus MLE. They have great pieces to build around in place like Markkanen, John Collins, Collin Sexton, Jordan Clarkson, the 3 rookies, Walker Kessler. Then they have insane amounts of extra future picks starting with Cavs, and Wolves unprotected 1sts in 2025

@@anthonydahl3858 I’m saying he should have a better grade, yes. He’s been the third best player from the 23’ draft and was drafted 4th. He’s already one of the best defenders in the nba at his position and impacted the game every time he stepped on the court, especially when he had been starting at the end of the season.
Freakish athleticism, great feel for the game, great defender already. Only thing he was ineffective at this season was his shooting, which we already knew going into the draft. Just don’t see how this isn’t a higher grade is all

That C+ for Scoot is VERY generous if not out of place. If you looked at his metrics its NOT just his shooting that is horrible, but he's below average even at the rim. He has shown no indications of being an NBA player. It will come, but for now, he should be in the G league.

Jett & Jarace are in the same situation but got different grades ? Even though you know its harder for wings & guards than bigs as rookies.
jarace was a top prospect going into the draft and jett was supposed to go around pick19 20 21 jett isnt a good player rn
No one thought Jett was worthy of a first round pick and they were right .

With the Jet Howard pick, I’d have to imagine Orlando wanted Cason Wallace but got caught out by the Thunder trading up ahead of them and were scrambling. Poor management by them if so but seems likely

Because he was the #2 overall pick that’s what he’s expected to do so he still gets an a cause he’s lived up to expectations but he didn’t blow expectations out of the water

I'm a Dallas fan, and Lively deserves an A or A+ based on his performance and where he was picked, however I actually agree with the B+ grade, but only because Lively missed 27 games due to injuries.
Anthony black does his job well for the most part but yet he doesn’t get mins. Maybe because lack of offense ?

It's pronounced "Uh-men" and he deserves at least a B+, in my opinion. He is elite defensively and was a big part of Rockets' win streak when Şengün went down with the injury besides Jalen Green. He had some growing pains at start of the season but has been impressive since at least January when you actually watch the games.

As a Raptors fan, Gradey has been getting much better as of late, getting higher in the 3 point percentage, and he may not be on the same level as others in the draft, but he's been showing what he has and deserves a C+ to a B-, plus, maybe an A+ given just how fun his last name is
I'd give him a b+
As a raptors fan, Gradey having a C or B- is a fair grade for the season, but is a B+/A- pick imo. His first half of the season was tough, but even as a rookie has been a ++ cutter and will be one of the best off ball players in the league on O, and with the 3pt falling and showing a really nice touch around the rim, it leaves a lot to be excited about and a solid path to being a strong starter in the league which despite expectations is great for a 13th pick!

can someone explain to me why Amen gets a higher grade than Ausar when they've basically played the same the entire season? Monty limited Ausar's minutes and then he got injured, how does that lower his grade?
Because amen is arguably the best defender on a really good defensive team in the rockets, he was the second best player during the win streak, and the teams 2nd best rebounder behind tari, and his off ball offense and defense helped compliment jalen and sengun and helped them to open their game up more

@@CJScottt yes exactly. When Ausar was given consistent playing time and a good role, he was dominant defensively and was doing almost the same as Amen on offence. So they’ve been playing the same role the whole season, but Ausar is on a bad team and a bad coach

honestly amen Thompson wasn’t even a guard this season in during the Rockets 11 game win streak he was pretty much a 4 and this guy was guarding big man and locking them down like he was a ultra Swiss Army knife defender and was getting 16 points of the game with like nine rebounds in like two steals like all defensive team type numbers also when he would be a guard he was blocking the living shit out of them

Miller should be an A. Bad team with lots of injuries and he has been a consistent 17 point 8 boards guy an upped it to 20 plus after allstar break. Went from 4 or 5 option to start season to 1st or 2nd. Looks like Hornets got this 2nd pick right
I think you have to high of an expectation efficent wise. Dick shooting 36% without a good point guard, and being a rookie its quite good, i think he could easily have been rated a b. Same with coulibily 34% without a good point guard is great.
Id give amen a A- or a B+ personally, hes argubly the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th best player from his draft, id say the top 5 players from the draft are, wemby, miller, amen, lively, and Jaime

The Thompson twins have literally been some of the best perimeter defenders NBA has seen in Amen He’s also been out really underrated rebounder and literally as played from point guard to power forward for the Rockets

Jarace Walker’s lack of play time has been a travesty. Rick Carlisle gives Doug McDermott minutes instead, and calling Doug lousy is being nice.
Mavs fan here. Carlise sucks with rookies (except Luka). He does a lot better with busts from other teams getting a second chance.

Imma have to disagree heavy on the Ausar grade especially compared to his brothers, Ausar is a much better defender, like one of the top 10 perimeter defenders in the league and his passing is nearly as good as his brothers, his shooting was awful, but his cutting and finishing was tremendous, and he didn’t necessarily have more scoring opportunities in the pistons then his brother on the rockets, the pistons had ton of scorers but no spacing or defenders aside from him
I guess I don't understand the way you're grading them. I would think it would be based on both their futures as NBA players and the way they've fit/contributed to their teams. And if that is the criteria then I think Amen Thompson and Derek Lively deserve higher grades. Amen Thompson is arguably the second biggest reason the Rockets went on an 11-0 streak recently and is doing things like scoring 25 points while grabbing 16 boards without having a single play called for him. Defensively, he's been an absolutel monster. He is probably the best defensive player on the Rockets and he's playing next to a guy who was named to the All-Defense team last year. Derek Lively has been a revelation for the Mavs and I honestly don't believe their record would be nearly as good without his rim running and defense. He's been a monster at both of those things. That team is a serious threat in the stacked Western conference and Lively is a key part of that.
