I listened to this a few years back when I was starting to get into sludge and doom metal and I thought it was pretty boring. Coming back here I now see how foolish I was, I think my face is melting

Oh yeah that snare is fucking huge. I can detect a reverb or, yeah like you said a short, very short delay.
Usually it's just a little bit of plate verb just loud enough to give the snare more beef.

It's funny how many people don't understand these guys. I guess it makes sense, as they're a band that rewards patience, and attentiveness. That doesn't really fly with todays cultural mindset.

I feel the drummer lacks the energy to take the music to another level.
i was the drummer for a Tampa based doom band for a few years....it's hard, bro. when you have to be restrained enough to play slower than an average human heart rate, but still tear faces off with each hit of the sticks during 9 to 20 minute long atmospheric, gut destroying, tar pits....takes it's toll after a few nights in a row. this style is a totally different realm than any other subgenre of metal. rock on and i wish you well on your journey into the subterranean dominion over this abyss.

Collectively they can be somewhat tiring to listen to im not gonna lie. They're just a better Pelican really....
Tell me you’re completely clueless without telling me you’re completely clueless. The ripper would not have had that behemoth of a sound without his meticulously premeditated strikes. It is insane keep such a solid and relentless tempo without almost any sustain from cymbals (he uses a freaking mega bell ride), nor filling the grid with subdivisions. His drumming takes the feeling of the abyss to another level. Dive deeper!
