We sang this when I was in high school at a competition and when the director cut us off at the end, the last notes echoed and the entire auditorium was dead silent and I get chills just remembering it! This was one of my favorite pieces we ever sang...

I don't think I will ever be able to EXACTLY tell or show anyone what's in my heart or how I see the world. I am different. I have always been different. I will always be different. That's just how it is. But this song right here comes pretty near to perfectly describing what's in my heart and how I see the world.
I also think that in order to truly understand this song and sing it and mean it, one needs to have actually lived a little and known God, and to have tasted both of good and bad in this life.

Gawthrop lyrics, “Sing me to Heaven”
In my heart's sequestered chambers lie
    Truths stripped of poet's gloss.
Words alone are vain and vacant,
    And my heart is mute.
In response to aching silence memory
    Summons half-heard voices,
And my soul finds primal eloquence and
Wraps me in song. Wraps me in song
    If you would comfort me,
    Sing me a lullaby.
If you would win my heart,
    Sing me a love song.
If you would mourn me and bring me to God,
Sing me a requiem, Sing me to heaven.
Touch in me all love and passion,
    Pain and pleasure,
    Touch in me grief and comfort;
Love and passion, Pain and pleasure.
Sing me a lullaby, a love song, a requiem,
Love me, comfort me, bring me to God:
Sing me a love song, Sing me to heaven

When my conductor compared Daniel Gawthrop to Eric Whitacre, I thought he might be exaggerating. Whitacre is a genius with the notes. But as soon as I heard this, I understood. Whitacre may be the Mozart of choir music, but Gawthrop is subsequently Beethoven. (who was better in my opinion) With this in mind, thanks for posting.
