- EV Cars are BRUTALLY FAST, but they just aren't for me. I want to have the look and feel of a muscle car, pumped full of electric speed. I bought the quickest sedan in the world from 2015, a Tesla P90D wrecked at Auction, and I'm going to gut it for all the EV speed parts we need. If I can sell enough junk, I'll get the parts I need for FREE!

This channel's really come into it's own. Tony's got a specific way of going about things that its apparent everyone who had creative control over him in his past endeavors really took.
I really hope he (and everyone involved) is genuinely enjoying making this content and we have this channel a long time to come.
Thanks for bringing us along for the ride man.
+1 glad Tony moved back from Hagerty to his own StayTuned. Thank you Tony!

@@StanleyKubick1 Lol, these comments are amazing to me; my man there's vastly worse examples all across the internet, commenting here isn't gonna do no one nothing. xD
I'm sure you're hitting every comment guilty of this then.. Not just the ones upvoted to the top. >.>
This car belonged to my step-father! He was in a head-on collision with another car that drifted into his lane, both vehicles were going ~50 mph. It was likely labeled a bio-hazard from the substance on the windshield that was actually some raisin bran and milk he had sitting in a coffee cup. He was in a back brace for a few weeks but otherwise was completely unhurt. Sad to see the battery is gone, but I can't wait to see what you do with that motor!
Love that you still support Freiburger by wearing his shirts. All of you OG Motor trend guys rock.
Great video. You should put the front and rear motors in the s10 and make an all electric syclone. That thing would be insane
That would be bananas!
That idea has me intrigued 🤔
Great idea!!
This is great idea!!
Pickup bed way easier to hold battery's and build a frame. You could test how many batteries are needed. Weight/power. Tesla 6000lbs with people, S10 4k
Don't forget about the top glass! That should be able to be sold pretty easily and for a decent amount.
Easier said than done... Not easy to remove glass in a timely manner without breaking it
@@TheeAbstractHero Cut the roof off and let the next guy worry about removing the glass from it.
@@trumbley22I like the way you think
Dude I'd be pissed at COPART was there ANY indication the battery was removed in the auction? That just seems shady AF to me. Anyhow I'm excited to see what you end up doing with all this Jetson's gadgetry.
Business as usual for COPART. They are professional criminals.
If this had been sold on copart before someone bought the whole car dropped the batteries and put it back in auction without copart knowing.
@@MrStacy1974. Oof, savage.
Like Cleetus with that Porsche that was 'running and driving'. They did the right thing by him though.
What i want to know is, who steals ALL the floor mats out of all the vehicles from copart. Most all the vehicles in the yards at the location near me have the mats missing.
I'm all in for watching a weekly episode of Angelo's Pizza Kitchen, or at least a T-Shirt!
I’m in for that one too! If we don’t make it with cars, there’s always pizza! Thanks for watching 🤙🏼

Tony, so so happy to see that your response to all the feedback about your choice to produce content with hagerty was to get back to the roots of the channel producing the show on your own with some cool guys. Your way , your style that we all came for. Furthermore it really shows that you care about your viewers and they are more important than a corporate name. Thank you for the Great content.
I for one approve of this build. Who cares how you make it fast. I have the ooni pizza oven, you gotta work so fast so the dough doesn't stick to the peel.
Hey, thanks! Appreciate it.

Put it in the Lotus

Hells yeah..
Yep - been waiting for this.
Hell yes! Like you mentioned at the top, hot rodding is about making due with what you've got and embracing new technologies. Can't wait to see how the build turns out!
Thanks for watching man, we all just love a good project that’s fast and doesn’t cost a million bucks!
let me just say ,without being a kiss ass also ,that these three make the best team of all time ,the ingredients to a top auto channel needs to have people who work off each other in an entertaining manner and these three are just the very very best, new subscriber glad to be here
I think its super cool that you are doing this. Hot rodding has always been about using whatever is available. If you showed an electric motor that made 500hp that weighed 250lbs to somebody in the 50's, their jaws would drop.
Damn, that worked out well even without the batteries. I feel like the auction should disclose something as important as missing battery pack. I want to see you E-rod something nerdy like a rabbit pick up or corvair or 80's wagon. You dudes are doing great things. Keep up the good work.
An EV Corvair Greenbrier would be dope.
well yeah.. it sure isn't as crashed.
though taking out the battery and crashing the car down a hill would be sort of a way to commit insurance fraud.
It's possible the auction didn't know. Their not in the business of checking for parts. It was a smart thing to do for the shop that had the car. Money in the bank and nobody's the wiser. Then again if the ad said it had batteries.. Can you go back on them?
@@Sergeantgrunt I am not sure how that works. I work for a big corporate collision repair company, and I know that we are required to make sure every part that belongs to the car goes into or on the car before it gets towed to the insurance auction facility. I'm not sure if its by local law, or just our companies policy to avoid any kind of legal issues. I was just surprised to see the car was picked over already when we are held to account for even broken parts.
Probably the last place I expected to see an EV Build, and I am all for it!
What a great project. I really love the direction this channel is consistently heading in. It's DIY hot rodding on the cheap, and it's so entertaining to watch. Keep it up, guys!
A few years ago an EV conversion company came out with what was effectively a Tesla crate motor, designed as a direct bolt in replacement for a small block Chevy. The thing is, that package cost around $30k and all the other bits needed added another $20k, so doing what you're doing is still potentially a very cheap way of converting a muscle car to electric.
Also, for anyone worried about the lack of noise, take a listen to Hoonigan's Hoonitron, because that thing screams like a banshee when it lights off... 😁
Little does tony know I've been designing an engine that runs on distilled hot dog water and he is going to test it for me!
“Ding” fries are done!🤣
I AM YOUR MAN!
Nice! You're officially the 3rd person i follow that has hopped on to the lets turn a wrecked tesla into something that's actually cool train. can't wait to see how this build progresses
I hope these guys are one of the three :) czcams.com/video/nGVVioOjCUU/video.html
The Lincoln seems to have decided that it does not want to be internal combustion anymore, but your old Buick would be a strong choice too. I will be interested to see what you guys end up hacking together.
Even I’ve seen Smokey and the Bandit..! Let’s get some summer movie nights lined up, start a Stay Tuned drive-in with a projector on the side of the garage.
Let's do it!
Time too colab with rich rebuilds😂
Yes, he's the Osiris of this stuff.
This is just the next era in hot rodding.
@14:30 behind the cut point is a low voltage wire powered by the 12v battery that controls the contactors (big relay) at the battery to de-energise the high voltage system.
This safety feature is part of why they won't work without the 12v battery.
HELL YES! Not a big fan of the guy that runs the company, and I don't find the cars body style or interior that appealing, but look: that motor - battery system they have is the LS7 of EVs when the other brands of EVs are running around on the Pinto motors of EVs. Whatever you're gonna end up doing, it's gonna be an absolute riot.
LEt's GOOOO!
What's so bad about the guy that runs to company?
I saw an old Satellite done up with an EV swap. The guy called it the "Electrolyte", car was sick!! Good luck with the build guys, loooots of wiring ahead lol
That thing is incredible! Whatever we do will likely not be that sanitary.
@@StayTunedTA Hell yeah! Thats what we're here for lol
Stick with it Tony and crew! You guys have a great channel and as the subscriber count goes up you guys will start making more and more $$. This is some of the best automotive content on YT imo!!!
your guys working so hard , 3 new video in a week, very enjoyable to watch , for a second i thought it was a joke that whole battery pack gone .
Out of all the automotive content I've ingested over the last 30 years, you're the only person who has mentioned buying or using parts from cars people died in. There's that old story about people using parts off the Porsche James Dean died in and subsequently died.
Put the battery and drive unit in a custom exo cage or dune buggy frame. I have always wondered how it would turn out. No matter what stoked for the project. Rock on guys 🤘
If you search around old auto forums a guy did an EV conversion on a street legal (i think) Formula Vee race car... Sounds kinfa like what you're describing
Whenever you get a salvage car you must first establish the "lore" behind it.😂
Whenever I'm at the junkyard, I look at some cars and try to imagine what kind of life it had and how it got there😅
I'm visiting my local junk yard tomorrow! Like a toy store with hidden jems!!!
I love the fact that you jump in head-first to stuff that you don't even know about. I'm the same way. A lot of people believe you have to go to school forever and do a lot of studying to get far, but sometimes it just comes down to getting your hands dirty. Keep up the great work!
Long time watcher from the early days on HRG. Love that you are branching out to EV performance. I am doing a conversion now on a 1934 Pierce Arrow with a Tesla drivetrain. It is documented on my channel. Looking forward to seeing how you complete the details on this conversion.
Love that this build is happening. I prefer my muscle cars loud and V8 powered, but I can’t wait to electrify a 60’s luxobarge.
Electric AWD “Cyclone”, would be cool to see drive unit from Tesla and an AWD transfer case from Tahoe or Escalade under your S10 :), not sure it could work but why not
That sounds utterly sick! And the S10 is light as heck, for a pickup. It'd make a real good base.
My first thought was turn it sideways, and run one axle to the front the other to the rear. I don't know if the gearing would work though.
Rear drive unit into a king bed truck so the batteries can be mounted in the box for ease and covered with a tonneau cover. The weight of the batteries would also be over the axles for traction.
You are welcome! Thanks for what you do and keep kicking ass!
I'd say sell the Drive unit as well and take the profit and find another one that does have batteries, that way you can part the next one out just the same and save some money. As for what it should go in, another vehicle known for foing up in flames. Put it in a fiero!
Sucks about the battery. Definitely look for something new and aftermarket. They have some that are a similar form factor to fuel cells for easy conversions. Used batteries are a risky game anyway. Oh and nicely done with the sopressata. Cheers.
Super stoked! Can't wait to see how much detail u dive in on this one.
love these uploads on friday! Keep sendin it man!
I am excited for this one! I have been thinking about doing something similar with a 2015 Mustang
Yeah, it's a whole new way for us to half-ass a build!
@@StayTunedTAfox body.
I'm so in on this series. I want to build a 67' F100 with electric motor(s) driving the front wheels and a GT500 motor i the back driving the rear wheels.
Dang, that sounds insane. Build it!
Thanks for doing this
You have my favorite car channel online
Love every show
Reach out to the seller first, Be sure to check the rear drive unit is actually the one you think it should be given the missing batteries someone may have swapped or doctored it up, maybe consider another donor car. B is for build Chris I think has a bit of a collection of Tesla parts cars you could reach out too
Those wheels probably have premium air in them - no worries on the battery packs 😅
Well, not the one with the big hole in the wheel but the rest we can scavenge for sure!
@@StayTunedTA the red van in the background of the rx video
Did the guys that sold it to you say there was a battery in there? If so you could take it back and get your money back. Just ask Cleetus about the Porsche he bought and took back.
Hmmm, that's not a bad call. I can reach out to Copart. I don't think it was discussed, just assumed.
@@StayTunedTA Yes, he did not even contact them himself. They reached out to him after seeing the video. I would check the listing to see what it said, if this was suppose to be just a wrecked car from and insurance company. Someone along the way stole the battery. tow yard etc.
Yeah that's definitely something that would need to be disclosed. It would be like buying a wrecked car that someone had taken the transmission out of - or in this case, more like had removed all the transmission internals but put the case back so you couldn't even tell from an external visual inspection.
Copart could help him if they choose to. They are absolutely not required to. On buyer to inspect vehicle.
@@StayTunedTA if good attitude generated electricity you'd be alright but we're gonna need sparks here. Make that call brutha. Good luck
Im along for the rode no matter what you working on tony.. this should be fun for sure.. keep it up man!!
I remember you had mentioned on The Smoking Tire podcast a couple years back that you had wanted to do a Tesla/electric build for years. Glad to see it's finally happening!
Also, do the ruinously irresponsible thing and shove the drive unit + batteries into an Aston Martin Lagonda
Don’t let them get to you.EVs are a part of the automotive industry. I’m all for gas, diesel, and yes EVs.
Hot rods, rat rods, drift cars, drag racing etc. is all good no matter how it’s powered. I would like to order a pizza btw. It looked amazing.
I'm loving the channel and the content, keep it up!
This is the first time I am seeing a build using EV components in a muscle car. Can't wait to see what you decide to put it in and how it turns out.
Plenty of them on CZcams to research. Mustangs, Plymouths, cobras Chevrolet etc all ev swapped and quick.
My favorite diy build is the project electrolitte by Kevin Erickson.
I f*cking love this show. It's no bs, not over produced, and really down to earth and fun. It's honestly the punk rock of car shows.
I am so glad you guys walked away from Hagerty (nothing against them I like some of their other content), even if it is harder on you to be independent.
Those NOCO jump packs are the best ever! I've used a bunch of jump packs, and those ones stand out above the rest.
I found this to be pretty insightful as well as entertaining, looking forward to seeing the progression of this
Sweet, thanks!
What I learned from this is to 1st verify the batteries are intact before bidding
Turning some guy's misfortune of sleeping while autopilot was engaged into good luck for your garage = fun for all of us!
Tony your channel goes so hard. This is what brought me to RoadKill to begin with. Keep being you ❤.
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching!
@StayTunedTA I was worried about you unbolting that battery pack while underneath it. Bummer it's empty but glad it didn't crush you. Let me know if you want help tracking down some batteries. I manage the battery manufacturing team at Tesla. Excited to see what you build with this!
Very interesting to see Tony involved in this project. Ciao dall'Italia !
Tony, VERY INTERESTING build. Can't wait to see what you do. It'd be hilarious to see this in an old Dodge van. Then you could put the battery INSIDE and hide it under a false floor.
My two thoughts are to throw it under a 350z or subframe looks similar to what you would call a Pontiac gto (aka holden monaro).
But literally anything rwd that you can convert to this would be awesome.
Even a small 4x4 with portal axles for extra height, although you would want that front drive too.
Good luck, watching keenly on evolution of this project.
Hell yeah!! Will definitely be doing this in the future!
Should put that setup in an old patina truck! Seems logical because trucks are naturally light in the ass end, with the drive unit in the back and with plenty of room for the batteries up front in the engine bay you could probably setup the weight bias pretty evenly. A cool truck would also be a great addition to the fleet.
Love the build, you guys did the research to be safe and like you said the batteries should be dead. Only thing maybe should have had a face shield on when taking the big kill me wires off "in case" of an arc flash. (Worth looking up) I tow for a living and had a Prius do a tiny volcanic eruption lol shit got real! Take care, love the channel!
Oh man, I can't wait to see what you guys put this in.... Would love to see it in something mid to late 60's small bodied. Wide, low and wickedly fast. Theres a 70 AMC Javelin in PA for sale right now for $5500 just sayin...
build the lightest dedicated drag car possible. something along the lines of the earliest rail jobs
Always check your high-voltage gloves for holes by filling them up with compressed air like a balloon and checking for leaks
This is the one channel I find myself saying I love these guy’s multiple times in one video I’ve always hated electric cars but this is sick!!
Agreed electric cars are cool the politics around them suck!!
I just want to say, I am so glad you are back on YT. Nothing bad about Hagerty, but the YT is just easier to use and search and be yourselves on. Pizza and beer are on me if you guys ever make to Ohio!
I think it's cool you didn't edit out the part of you thinking it had a battery 😂. I would be terrified pulling a Tesla apart, with the whole getting dead thing😂. Awesome video
I'm in! Can't wait to hear it run!
Save all you can .Every piece of that car is worth money ! Someone would definitely buy it.
Another supremo project from you guys! I just loved the pizza part of this episode too. You are just rocking it Tony ☺
Gotta be the only culinary car channel on YT
A destroyed Tesla being parted out. This old hot rodder has never been happier. Thanks guys. 😀😀
Really excited for this project... Lets GO!
Looking forward to following this.
No hate from this viewer! Looking forward to being taken along the adventure boys!
Heelz Yeah! Love them electric ponies! Cant wait to see what you put it in.
You should scrap all that aluminum and all the copper wires you can pull out of that thing that's got to be worth a ton of money
If you could cut the aluminum from this car and scrap it, that would be a fortune right there.
I love this channel so much that i DONT skip the ad's.. 🏁💪🏽🤘🏼💥
Gonna be a cool build. I tend to agree, fast is fast. It may be different but it's still going to be a blast.
Put it in my Chevy Van! I'd love to do this conversion and with all the space under the floor it's an idea candidate!
Can’t wait to see this build.
Awd truck is what I was wanting to build till I learned how much everything cost and the controller to run it all. But the battery pack being gone isn’t horrible now you can design the pack around what frame you use and not a frame around the pack.
Just glad I am old enough to remember the late 60 s and 70 s. ) grew up on regular gas and good times . way b4 computer s. But those TESLAS are Fast ) no denying it
New t-shirt idea: Flaming EV on the front w/ the caption: "We're gonna burn down the shop!"
C5 corvette! Has the same bolt pattern for wheels i think. Tesla wheels and pop up headlights would be super fun. :)
I say put the Tesla drive in your Syklone. Mount it transversely, raise the bed floor to accommodate the batteries, and put the controller stuff in the engine bay.
Btw... muscle is muscle. Bring it on guys! Good luck on whatever build it becomes. Look forward to seeing what happens!!
Aw, man!!! That sucks that the batteries are gone! At least you guys still have the power unit, and you should be able to get some bucks for the goodies, so I guess it's not all bad. Looking forward to the insanity! ✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
If anyone can build a badass ev hotrod it’s TA. I have complete faith in whatever this build becomes. Very excited for this one ! Thanks Tony and friends
Thanks! Appreciate that a lot. I know this one is a stretch for a lot of people.
What would be cool is to keep the front drive, find another one and put them in a small car like a Fiero. Those front drives are like 250ish +/- a little. Maybe a sideXside?
I'm not surprised the batteries were already gone... Was *way* too cheap to be 100% complete.
Good luck with the project!
If you're looking for suggestions I would suggest throwing this into an AC Cobra repro. Batteries in the engine bay
Stay Tuned, Tony, I knew a couple people that bought Teslas. The batteries were gone too. Individuals are using the batteries from the Teslas to store electrical energy for those using solar panels on their homes. Its true. Before you bid on a Tesla at an auction. Check for batteries.
I used to write insurance repair estimates on Death Cars. You would not believe the stuff I have seen. But believe it or not, the worst were the deer hits. The smell was just incredible, and I saved those for after lunch. BTW,, Biohazard was a great band. Still have plenty of their CD's!
Nothing like a comment that's going on a year late. I watched a guy on utube made a electric car. He said he couldn't go very far,or go very fast but also said with the motor not under power, he could recharge his batteries in
15 minutes. I believe this guy. If you knew, I'd do it too. For your information. Thanks guys
Hey Finnagen has a 65 Vette body that would make a light weight bitching EV drift/drag/track monster!!! Sure would be a cool Collab.
Thanks for sharing y'all's adventures!!!
“Gloves and luck” 😂 I love you guys
