Jayson Tatum Is Falling Into The Devin Booker Trap
Vložit
- čas přidán 10. 06. 2022
- Jayson Tatum has just made it to the NBA Finals for the first time in his career, paying homage to Kobe Bryant. But how he got there was eerily similar to Devin Booker. Unfortunately for Tatum, that could mean walking into the trap that Booker walked into last season. And that would mean the Boston Celtics would ultimately suffer the same fate as the Phoenix Suns, losing the series in heartbreaking fashion. In this video, we go through all of the times both Tatum & Booker were compared to the late, great Kobe Bryant.

Something I found interesting, Klay once said that when he struggles, he watches his 37 point quarter and his highlight reel. He doesn’t watch Kobe or MJ, he watches himself. If you think about it, it makes more sense. What can you learn about yourself watching Kobe highlights? Tatum and Book aren’t high school players who need to be inspired by their hero, they are pros who should probably do what Klay does. I think that is important to avoid falling into this trap.
Yes. Even though Kobe had a similar adoration for MJ, He wanted to learn his moves to carve his own path and surpass MJ. I don't think it's the same for Tatum and Booker. Not yet I hope. Players should prioritize in improving their game by watching their game.
damn two level headed comments refreshing grntlemen
That's why you see a shift toward steph and giannis' mentality. These guys don't give a f about anything but winning and self improvement. No corny tributes or self anointing, it's been refreshing.
I think it's fine to get inspiration from others and even aspire to reach their heights. But they definitely have been stretching it these last few years
@@billybobby5247 Steph and Giannis have unique talents. They can only rely on themselves on how to improve
Tatum love Kobe so much he couldn’t let the Celtics pass the Lakers in titles
ouch 😳
Oh shit it makes sense!
Kobe would be proud
He even went 2-4 for Kobe.
@@voongnz Interestingly, Devon Booker and the Suns went 2-4 with the Bucks as well so I guess we need Brown out of Boston and they get Devon so we get Team Kobe in Boston...
These guys need to just be their own players and create their own legacies instead of trying to be like Kobe
yes
Booker isn’t trying to be like Kobe. He’s said this so many times that it’s kinda sickening that you still believe he is
Fax
Booked ain’t trying to Kobe he looks up to Kobe Kobe is one of his biggest inspiration booker “I AM NOT KOBE IM NOT TRYING TO BE KOBE but my play style is inspired by Kobe” Tatum AINT ON BOOKERS LEVEL AT ALL TATUM ASS
You mean setting themselves up for rape accusations?
After the finals are over. This video hits even harder 🤷🏾♂️
Ong
Tatum before the finals: I gotchu Kobe
Kobe in heaven after the finals: bro don’t text this number again
I also blame the media, because they anointed Booker and Tatum as the next “Kobe” it’s a syndrome that the media does. Trying to find the next mj, Vince, grant hill, tmac, etc.
Media does what it's gonna do to get clicks. It's on players to perform.
Grant hill and Jason Tatum is a great comp.
Yea it is funny the comparisons to Kobe and that old Kobe and MJ comparisons you brought up were spot on. As for the entire Tatum and Kobe idealoziation going on atm, I still find it weird, like you can have your heroes but the part that it got weird for me was when the text came into play. To each their own but somethings should not be shared
Just makes us realize how special Kobe was… these guys are so physically talented-maybe even more so than Kobe-but Bryant’s mind was indomitable.
In what world is booker more physically talented than Kobe? Lol booker isn’t very athletic in comparison actually
Taytum sure, but not Booker. Kobe's height and wingspan was slightly more than Booker. But besides that nickpicking I just did, you're right, Kobe would never complain about some dinosaur mascot heckling or being double teamed. Or mess with some Kardashian and be so narcissistic and obsessed with social media.
@@robertbaafi242 Agreed on Booker; but you could make an argument Tatum is more physically talented...
@@kisswriters Tatum definitely more physically talented but barley uses it to his advantage when needed
@@cookieabbas1679 yeah he uses sidestep way too much i think. he needs a slightly deeper bag but i think he's more talented than Booker.
Always happy to see you’re videos pop up on notifications man, keep doing the good work you’re doing 🙏🏾
Like these long vids. Feels more like a conversation than a presentation which I think is unique
YES! That's how I want it to feel like. I'm not some NBA expert, and I think that's my appeal. Just watch a lot of NBA content & can piece stuff together
dude i love these videos bruh. Please never stop posting these man. We all appreciate these highly💯
Definitely! I plan on making more videos like these since they get the most support. Thank you for the love!
In the 2009 NBA finals I remember Courtney missing that layup from Hedo pass and it could’ve made a difference perhaps not likely the outcome but could’ve been some nice additional adrenaline
It definitely is one of those "butterfly effect" moments that could have changed the entire landscape of the NBA
@@tooforwon241 do you believe the magic would've won the series had he made that shot?

Tatum needs to treat this Finals series just like how Kobe treated shooting those are balls against Utah in the playoffs since he loves Kobe so much💯
Guys can we please share this video as much as possible? This channel deserves love and recognition.Love the conversation format.Feels like im chatting with a friend.Cant get enough of debunking nba media narratives.Keep going man!
I appreciate the love shown here. Sharing would help me a ton, and don't worry too much, I'm already seeing huge growth over the last two months. People are definitely sharing 😎
Loved the video bro, new subscriber👊🏻 Keep up the good work. Enjoyed your commentary over it all, especially the parts involving Stephen A. Smith💀😂

Super long, but great video. Thanks for putting in the work!

No Keep them long. I no u have shorts but the long is better. Keeps my attn. thank u. Great work.
Kobe can post up, and has very smooth footwork. Especially a smaller guy guards him? It' done..
Meanwhile, Tatum at 6'8, 210lbs cant post up against Gary Payton II, who's 6'3 190lbs? #JustSaying
6’10
That’s even worse
@@emmanuelmondesir1314 he not fuckin 6’10 🤦🏾♂️ I hate when y’all over Exaggerate niggas physical attributes.

Tatum needs to put on 30,40 pounds.
Imagine Kobe getting credit for all of Jordan's moves and Jordan's mentality.
That's just the natural progression of the game. The same thing happened with Jordan and Elgin Baylor.
Imagine clowns NOT mindlessly hating on Kobe....
I thought he got credit for his execution, legendary work ethic, and winning. But that's fine, relegate his iconic career to those two things.

Love these types of videos (especially the hour long ones). Waiting for the next one. U should do one for Harden (just a suggestion). Thanks for making my day a little better with this video.
❤️❤️the long videos also.
Keep up the hard work
Thank you! I've got a big video coming up at some point & I can't wait for you all to watch it
Tatum honestly plays more like T-Mac.
While he does utilize the occasional back to the basket attack, he is much more likely to throw in a side step, step back, or just a straight elevate & release shot over the defender because he has a much higher release point.. like.. Tracy Mcgrady
Kobe was smaller, quicker, had more bounce, rarely in iso'd from the perimeter with an active dribble, Kobe had WAY more dog in him, & had more intensity on every play on defense.
That’s kinda who I was thinking but Tmac was just a different type of beast too bc of his athleticism
Just got a sub big bro! Keep grinding.
Thank you! Loving the huge support I've been getting lately. Definitely motivated to keep going
Found your vid’s today and binging on it even though I don’t really follow bball anymore hehe

Your content is excellent at being both critical and fair. Great vid. Was worried coming in as a Celtics fan that you were gonna dunk on my dude, (after you went off on Westbrick and Simmons, I was clenched) but I think you handled this perfectly. Hoping JT has that mamba in him, and he isn't scared of the moment.
Oh no I love what JT has been able to do this year. When making this video, I was hoping he'd have at least one stand out game by now
@@tooforwon241 I'm just over here trying not to jinx anything, but Tatum was firey aggressive in the last 3 series and he's playing a lot more conservative here. It doesn't feel like he's scared or phoning it in, it reminds me more of 2011 LeBron where something inside him just let himself get beat by JJ Barea. Really hope he makes me eat my words tomorrow
@@44Gulick I think he's hurt & I wouldn't be surprised if a report comes out after the series saying he has a torn labrum
So 2 disciples of Kobe have lost at the biggest stage trying to be him essentially until they learn to be themselves. Some anime narrative type shit, LOVE IT
It's crazy that this happened two years in a row
Kobe "The black mamba" Bryant
Devin "the dust mite" Booker

Tatum and kobe had the same field goal percentage in their first finals. 37%

There are a lot of great players today that really embody Kobe like Booker and Tatum. There's also a lot of great ones like Luka and even Steph who were Lebron fans. Lebron just still around. Still though it's sad Kobe is gone, I would have loved to see him and Bron celebrate that 2020 ring 😢
Just wondering if you could do a Shaedon Shape video? Appreciate all of your videos.
Thank you so much for the support don't! But I don't think I'll be able to provide a quality video about the upcoming draft. I don't know enough & it would take me way too long to research. 13:34 lmaooooo ayo talking like it didn’t already happen 🤣
I agree with you 100%, but i think since lots of time, many many people focus ONLY on the players and not on the teams, these boston were spectacular, but also they had to face probably one of the biggest oiled juggernaut ever assembled, the golden state warriors.. I don't like their game, but they are absolutely one of the best teams ever.
Warriors are annoyingly great. They keep winning. But idk how Tatum played so poorly. Part of it ofc is the defense the Warriors played. But he was playing much better in the past series which makes me think he may have hurt his shoulder worse than we think
@@tooforwon241 It has been rather good playoffs this year, what's sad to me is to have seen so many great teams cut out, like the Clippers
@@tooforwon241 boston played 2 7 game series before the finals plus GSW was the best defensive team in the league.

Most underrated youtuber in the wrld
Same thing happened in the 2000s people wanted to play like Mike but you need to have your own identity
Exactly the point I made at the end. Kobe was the victim of this when he lost in '08. And now Tatum might be the latest one & that'll really suck

Tatum and dbook are heading into their primes. They will still become legendary at the pace they’re goin. Making the finals alone is an incredible achievement. Barkley, Malone are legends with only finals appearances
Barkley and Malone won MVPs and got blocked from a ring by a Michael Jordan. Tatum lost a ring to an old Warriors team and played terribly. I would not say either are en-route to be Barkley or Malone level, but they might end up there.
18:46 in bookers defense, he wasn’t lying. He was statistically the most double teamed player in the league that year, even more than harden. That’s how bad my suns were 😢
This shit is so annoying. Booker didn’t show up to the gym to pass out if double teams all game. they are trying to work on their game and people always bring that up haha
@@professorzoom7800 yeah because Booker thinks he's got it all figured out. He needs to be humbled to become better and the mavs loss should've at least given him a bit of a push.

@@tooforwon241 okay thanks ! great video btw
The Media just does this loop and do it until the end of time. When a player is being great you compare them to and all time great and it gets a bunch of attention. Now if that player lives up to that expectation you can look like a genius and your credibility is made. If they fail, whatever you can just tear them down, people are going to watch that and get it attention to because slander is the name of the game now a days.
LMAO @ 9:40 allright bro we get it you're a hard worker
I hate the comparisons. Nobody is the next Mj,Kobe,LeBaron, Barkley, or Bird. Let these players make a name for themselves
With Chuck idek how someone could even be compared to him. A smaller stocky forward like that isn't really something that fits the modern game too much. The only player I've seen recently that has similar intangibles is Kenneth Lofton Jr
bro tried to sneak in charles barkley🤣
@1:45 you can see Booker’s shot release is so much quicker now compared to college.
So true! My goodness that's a great observation
@@tooforwon241 the difference is so obvious mane I also peep that!
Ey this creator sucks you forget that kobe is carried by shaq in to 3 tittles average 7 ppg and requested a trade why you say that tatum and booker are not better give them time bro before you said something it's blasphemy
Why is it bad to compare Booker to Kobe another than “C’mon man”
Won’t ever be another Kobe & it shouldn’t be he was special because he had his own identity nothing wrong with admiring but everyone should be themselves
Now Devin booker in the second round. Mamba mentality ❤️
never understood all these "next Kobe" stuff. "next Jordan", on the other hand, made perfect sense for several reasons.
Man Jason Tatum and Devin Booker are forever stuck in kobe Bryant shadow
Devin looks like a real life Canadian from South Park
I don't think it's fair to say "how many did Kobe win without Shaq". Kobe said a number of times that he doesn't win those without Pau.
They love Kobe so much that They both lost 2-4 in the nba finals
Lol that was good
Also multiplied to 8.

Also during the Kobe/Shaq era. Most of the series in WCF / Finals, Shaq was the better either by a far margin or a small margin. Only 1 series (against the spurs) did Kobe outperform Shaq.
36:18 As a big fan of the Mamba it’s hard to hear these things because I question what these “analysts” are watching. A player shoots a couple of mid range shots, “HES THE NEXT KOBE”, like common now, relax.
Good point but I would have to disagree not making the young excuse for them but most guys don't win they first finals Durant lost his first finals and Bron to everybody got influences
D Book mamba aspirations got ended by some Slovenian kid 🤣🤣🤣 Tatum is the man!
Wrong lol the 🥩 🚴is outstanding, book was getting bashed b4 that and even told everyone he looks up to him n doesn’t want to be him
Yes, because being sonned by Andrew Wiggins is better than being sonned by Luka. Do you hear yourself?
Tbh Jayson Tatum and Devin Booker should not be compared for one reason. That reason is they play two different positions. Also yeah dbook had a bad game but so did Jayson Tatum in the frickin finals. They Both are elite but they shouldn't be compared. Just my opinion.
Luka in game 7 is kinda like Steph’s game 7 against okc in 2016 like reporters asked Durant and Russ about Steph’s defense Russ laughed and KD kinda of talk down about Steph’s defense. Then Steph went crazy in that game7. Now when the reporter asked Chris and Booker about Luka defense they both laughed and then Luka says ‘everybody acting tough when they up’ and then in game 7 Luka also went crazy and destroyed them.
as a suns fan I lament that we didn't draft Luka who is now books dad :(
As a hawks fan I feel bad we didn't keep Luka. People were using the ecf finals to say Trae is better but now they can't say anything about since Luka took the mavs to the WCF
No way. He 24. First finals with his best teammate a year older than him lol. It’s not like he had shaq. Or cp3. He’ll be going to multiple finals. Multiple mvps. Multiple all nba. His game 6 vs Giannis proves it. He played the most minutes that added up to like 15 more games than curry. Kid was nervous and tired. He’ll be ok.
I agree Tatum is still young & is one of the best players under 25. But you know the slander will come his way. It's just how things go sadly.
Yo, what was that cartoon from lol
Hearing Tatum say "Kobe my favorite player" in multiple occasions is soft/ rainbow in my opinion.
...? how is that soft. he has a favorite player. so do jordan and kobe. would you rather him be arrogant like holmgren and say his favorite player is himself?
Really can’t stop jt , trae young or luka feel bad for the defenders next season
People have always done it in the past, the next M.J., the next Kobe! Lets just face it, they used to compare M.J. to legendary 76er great --> (Dr. J.), then Kobe was supposed to be the next Jordan, why can't people just be themselves as Kobe & Jordan eventually learned it pays best when you do your own thing(Be it Air Jordan or Black Mamba style)!!!
They’re literally in the same category of 4.5 stars😂 basically those who need to be paid maxs but will never deserve them smh
They all want to be like Kobe but little do they know thrust are doing shit Kobe hasn’t even accomplished 😂
Frfr bro they will never be my favorite player kobe yea he can be your idol but naw bro you will never be him 💯💯 R.i.p Kobe 🙏🏻
Just found this video. It is good however there are a lot of times you get off topic and the screaming wasn't it. I feel like if you were to stay on topic and focus on tatum and booker instead of going to lonzo and luka it would have been better. Howvever still verg good video👍
Kobe will always be my hero, But this dudes are borderline obsessed with Kobe and it is starting to look corny. They do not realize that at this point in their careers they don’t have what it takes.
This is so reminiscent of when Kobe got the MJ comparisons. Everyone said that he wouldn’t live up to it, and what did he do? H lived up to it! Just calm down, everyone! Damn, it’s not that deep.
Kobe preached being himself above all else. Its only when he embraced *himself* that he got those two chips that cemented his legacy.
MJ came back and played for his dad, but returned to doing it for himself and brought him to cementing his legacy with the second 3-peat.
Youve gotta be YOU friends. Thats what all the best will tell you. Be YOU.
Diff between Kobe and Devin is that if Kobe sees a fault in his game ie he has trouble getting doubled teamed, his handles arent tight enough, his fade away isn't giving him the space he needs, he'd work on it everyday for hrs on end. Devin just cries and refuses to practice because he gets double teamed in pick up games. For a guy that admires Kobe's Mamba mentality, he's pretty soft.
Lmfao dude dead said he looked up to Stephen A smith 😂
