I just saw an interview with 4 of the Memphis Mafia as they're called. Darn thing made me cry, because they all were crying when they talked about Elvis. They said they knew their lives would never be the same, after he passed but felt they would see him again.. They really loved him. They said they didn't even know they were in the light until it was gone. But you know I think the millions upon millions of fans that he still has around the world still feel that loss. I do. You keeping his memory alive helps so much. :)

One thing that always amazed me about Elvis is his almost uncanny ability to deliver while "side-tracked". I mean I've seen him singing near opera stuff lying on his back on stage. I've never seen anyone else do that (no matter how competent they were). This clip do demonstrates his enormous professionalism very well though. It's easy when you're that good! :)

Lots of people including Elvis felt his Movie career held him back, but there are some great songs in many of his films that Elvis may never have got to sing but for the movies, I have many favourites "Follow That Dream" is a classic early Elvis movie song that I just love, another is Edge Of Reality from " Live a Little, Love a Little" where a very cool looking Elvis dances and sings on stage and from the same film "Almost In Love" there are many more but this is just a few to listen to.

You want to see/hear a different side to Elvis, react to Elvis calls out the media for saying he was strung out and missed a show. He was actually very sick with the flu. He was furious that they said that about him and he let that fury fly with a very vicious promise. I won't spoil it for you, but you can tell he meant what he said.

You can hear his deep rich powerful tone in his voice. It is a beautiful ballad. Your reaction is very nice and your comments are accurate. If you want to listen to Elvis really laughing and joking, try listening to his mid '60's outtakes from his soundtracks. When he was in a silly mood he would let the laughter fly.

    Dani- enjoying your. Reaction videos.
What a lovely voice you have. I am going to go “full parental mode” on you with this detailed road map of 1980’s music culture. I lived the 80’s. On January 1, 1980, I was an awkward eighth grader growing up in the midwest: ten years later on December 31, 1989, I had just graduated from The Ohio State University and secured my first job, my first apartment and was responsible for taking care of myself. Those 3,650 days not only defined my life, but contained 520 weeks of diverse musical styles that still resonate today. I can assure you that if you use the following as a road map and move through these recommendations, that you will be in the top 1% of 1980’s “In The Know” for young adults your age. And I hope that it helps you on your musical journey. I have put in parentheses those artist who have a special contribution or talent in (Vocal Ability, Fashion, Music Video, and Instrumental Genius)
    Pop Music
    1. Michael Jackson (Vocal Ability, Fashion, Video)- the King of Pop. The most influential pop star of all-time
    a. Thriller Album- watch all videos/listen to all songs especially
    i. Beat It
    ii. Billy Jean

    ii. Time after Time
    b. True Colors
    i. True Colors
    4. George Michael- (Vocal Ability) the Justin Timberlake of the 1980’s. Ladies adored him. His 1987 Album Faith was off the charts. Wham!- his pre-solo career group and the songs Wake Me Up Before You Go Go and Careless Whisper should be watched
    a. Faith Album-
    i. I want your Sex- controversy whether or not it should receive airplay seems laughable today
    ii. Faith-
    iii. Father Figure-
    iv. Monkey-
    5. Prince- (Vocal Ability, Instrumental Genius, Fashion, Video) Supreme musical talent. A case could be made that he is the most talented singer/songwriter/instrumentalist of all time
    a. 1999 Album
    i. 1999- seemed so far away in 1982
    ii. Little Red Corvette
    b. Purple Rain Album-
    i. Purple Rain
    ii. Let’s Go Crazy
    iii. When Doves Cry
    c. Around the World in a Day Album
    i. Raspberry Beret
    d. This list doesn’t do Princes discography justice. Every prince songs even obscure examples should be listened to. (Darlin Nikki, Pope, Pop Life, and on and on and on)
    6. Pat Benatar (Vocal Ability)- next to Madonna the hottest Female talent of the 1980’s.
    a. Crimes of Passion album-
    i. Hit me with your best shot
    ii. You better Run
    b. Live from Earth Album
    i. Love is a Battlefield
    ii. Fire and Ice
    iii. Hell is for Children
    c. Tropics Album
    i. We Belong
    7. Culture Club (Fashion, Video)- Gender bender Boy George a talent way before his time
    a. Colour By Numbers Album
    i. Karma Chameleon
ii. Church of the Poison Mind
    8. Hall and Oats-hit first in the 1970’s but so many hits in the 1980’s place them squarely as a member of the 1980’s
    9. Tina Turner- (Video) 70’s act made a huge comeback in her 40’s in the early to mid eighties with monster hits
    Rock
    1. Journey/Steve Perry (Vocal Ability)- Steve Perry is simply one of the top five vocalist of the 20th century- Songs to listen to: Faithfully, Separate Ways, Mother Father,
    2. REO Speedwagen-
    3. Van Halen (Instrumental Genius)- Two versions of this group pre 1985 David Lee Roth was the lead vocalist and Sammy Hagar took over in 1985/86. They were mega successful with two totally different sounds.
    4. Foreigner- hard rock group that turned heads with their toned down mega hit:
    a. I want to know what love is
    5. Phil Collins- former Genesis front who some feel “sold out” in his solo career but
    a. In the Air Tonight is a classic
    6. Heart (Vocal Ability)- Like Tina Turner these 1970’s female and sister rockers made a big comeback in the mid 80’s. Nancy Wilson is arguably the best female vocalist of all time if not she is certainly a top Five. Watch her cover of Stairway to Heaven on Led Zeppelin’s Kennedy Center honors.
    Hard Rock/Hair bands
    1. Bon Jovi- start with Living on a Prayer
    2. Gun’s and Roses/Axel Rose. (Vocal Ability) Axel Rose has the greatest range recorded of any male artist. Start with Paradise City, Welcome to the Jungle and Sweet Child ‘o Mine
    3. White Snake- Here I go Again. Sums up 80’s hard rock in one song/video.
Heavy Metal- most people in the 1980’s, even teens thought that heavy metal bands consisted of just a bunch of screaming. Many parents thought that the music was satanic. But, in reality, Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden and Ronny James Dio of Dio, have without controversy, are in the top ten vocalist of the 20th century. I picked a song from each that exemplify their talent.
    1. Iron Maiden (Bruce Dickinson)- Hallowed be thy Name.
    2. Dio- Last In Line
    3. AC/DC- wow. Pick a song.
    Rap
    1. Sugar Hill Gang- Rappers Delight-this is the first rap that received major radio airplay.
    2. Run DMC- The rap and video that introduced rap to a white audience.
    3. LL Cool J- First crossover rap star. Still relevant today.
Alternative- These acts/songs are from across the ocean. Their hits echo 1980’s
    1. Human League- start with Don’t You Want Me and Human
    2. Duran Duran (pop/alternative)- Young ladies and teens in the early and mid eighties went nuts over Duran Duran. A key group in the formation of MTV’s first videos
    3. Simple Minds- Don’t You Forget about Me
    4. INXS- start with Need You Tonight, New Sensation, Original Sin
    5. Eurythmics/Annie Lennox (Vocal Ability)- start with Sweet Dreams, Would I lie to You?
U2- U2 is a separate category. They started off as an alternative band with the anthem Sunday Bloody Sunday and morphed into a mainstream group of epic proportions.
    1. U2-Sunday Bloody Sunday
    2. U2-With or Without You
    3. U2-I Still Haven’t found What I’m looking For
Country- Country was the only musical genre that I ignored in the 1980’s. I am just getting into country now as a 54 year old man, but a group of my frat brothers who were from the country always used to blast this song
    1. Hank Williams Jr.- A Country Boy Can Survive.
Must Watch Music Videos- These Video are generally regarded to be the greatest videos of the 1980’s, which in effect means the greatest videos of all time. (In reverse order)
    1. Every Breath You Take- The Police
    2. Girls Just Want to Have Fun- Cyndi Lauper
    3. Rio- Duran Duran
    4. Beat It- Michael Jackson
    5. Material Girl- Madonna
    6. When Doves Cry- Prince
    7. Walk This Way- Run DMC/Aerosmith- In one swoop this video introduced rap music to the white audience.
    8. Faith- George Michael
    9. Thriller- Michael Jackson- First epic video. It’s preserver was advertised weeks in advance and a whole nation of teenagers tuned their TVS in all at the same time and were mesmerized by this epic.
    10. Take on Me- A-ha. SPECIAL NOTE. THIS VIDEO OF A-HA’S ONE HIT WONDER IS GENERALLY REGARDED AS THE GREATEST VIDEO OF ALL TIME. THIS WAS CREATED FROM HUNDREDS OF HAND DRAWN ART. NO COMPUTER PROGRAMS EXISTED THAT COULD DO THIS. Every person of the 1980’s will admit that this video sums up 1980’s music in a nutshell.
    Must Watch Movies with soundtracks
    1. Fast Times at Ridgemont High- I assume that your parent are of my generation. If so, this movie will show you exactly like going to high school in the 1980’s was. This movie contains many movie stars at the start of their careers. Can you pick them out?
    2. Purple Rain- The loosely autobiographical movie that accompanied the Purple Rain Album
    3. Footloose- Great 80’s soundtrack
    4. Top Gun- Great 80’s soundtrack
    Special Mention
    1. The documentary on the making of We Are the World Video- this arrangement put together by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie was a monster hit that raised money for a devastating famine in Africa. This documentary shows how two people got together over thirty major musical artist and put the video together. A must watch!
    2. Whitney Houston’s rendition of the National Anthem at Super Bowl XV. Although this occurred in 1991, it shows the 80’s Diva in her absolute prime and a absolute watch for any aspiring young vocalist.

Hello Dani, the studio version does have more verses and is excellent, it is actually one of Lisa Marie’s favorite recordings of her daddy. But I suggest you hold off and cover that in November, there is a new Elvis Album release with remixed sound coming out to celebrate the 50th anniversary of those recording sessions often referred to as the Nashville Marathon due to the number of songs Elvis recorded over those five days in 1970.

perfect people then there is no one to love.
      Thank you again for

Just to note, there are huge cuts in this sequence, as this was edited and released in the remake of That's The Way It Is in 2001.
The rehearsal of the song is much longer. You can watch here:
