Honestly, I love the way this episode ended. It makes the viewers emotional and all that. Just when you thought everything is over, suddenly Subaru has to do it all over again. It's just sad and frustrating at the same time.

Ayye, she caught the Felix bit.
The fact that he was basically exploded, but has such powerful healing magic he just healed from an explosion.
Most people miss that on the first watch.
I think it was hinted in the earlier episodes that Betelgeuse can take over Subaru’s body. In one of his lives he was laughing when Puck froze him to death

No, that was Subaru laughing at himself, not Betelgeuse taking him over. He was in control of his thoughts and going nuts laughing at his failures.

this is probably one of the more painful episodes, especially when you have the ending OST being played as Subaru is begging Felix and Julius to kill him. you can see how much it pains both Julius and Felix, and you realize how sad it makes them because of Julius struggling to even do it, and Felix dropping his cat-like nuances in his speech. Its the first time Felix calls Subaru "Subaru-kun" instead of "Subaru-kyun". so freaking sad man

Wilhelm was using first the water at the lake, then the dust in the town to see where the Unseen Hands were. That’s why the anime showed the hands “flickering” for us instead of the usual purple.
Episode 23 is actually one of my favorite episodes it’s so sad to see that it just barely wasn’t enough and everyone’s effort and bonds they formed were for naught
"If you keep shouting... it's gonna make my brain tremble." Seriously one of the best bars Subaru has ever dropped.

In case you wonder how wilhelm can see the unseen hands... he can't. He is such a GOAT that he was reacting to stuff like dust being displaced as the hands moved.

Now think back to the episode where puck killed 'guese and froze Subaru. Right before he died, Subaru started laughed and we heard his internal dialog that is wasn't his voice.
Yeah. 'guese had taken over Subaru's body. A bit too late.
While it is sad… I also love that this death was still a part of Subaru on his growth arc. He apologized to Julius. And now he trusts Julius to kill him.
Liking Julius is not an unpopular opinion. He is a fan favourite. He is probably in my top 3 characters in this show
Subaru x Julius is a big ship too. Esp during and after arc 5-6.
Only Suburu can see the hands.
Emilia and Wilhelm use ice and dust in the air to see the "gaps" that the hands leave. In other words they cannot see the hands, but they can see the effects on the sorroundings to find out where they are.
If that universe continued, absolutely emilia will be very sad to found out about what happend to subaru. Julius also would probably life the rest of his life haunted by regret

2 things about Felix and one about Subaru in this episode when the carraige exploded Felix straight up died but used magic to regenerate his entire body wolverine style. second thing about Felix is when he used magic on subaru at the end he boiled all of the water in his body rendering his muscles useless it was pretty gruesome in the ln. and finally julius' comment about subaru's affinity with spirits is the explanation as to why subaru has such an easy time finding Beatrice's room he can just intuitively sense her but its subconcious so he doesn't realize there's a magic element involved.

Perhaps it's just my opinion, but I think in general Julius is liked by those that read the web novel/light novel series as opposed to those that are anime only, and it has to do with the POV chapter involving Julius and Felix explaining why Julius had to do what he did (basically giving him the humiliating beating that he did saved his life) was cut from the anime. Now, I'm not saying all anime only viewers are like that, because Alana clearly likes Julius for her own reasons, and that's why I generalized the statement.

To be honest the original episode's ending where subaru got possessed by Betelgeuse is way better because the music stops right after Emilia turns away which hits harder for me.
Personally it's my favourite episode, it's much more emotional to me than other moments in this series.
At least in this season, the next one has some even better episodes.
