  • Learn the secret behind how the Fluidmaster adjustable toilet flapper works. The adjustable flapper can increase/decrease the amount of water per flush. The minimum setting uses less water and the maximum setting more water per flush. This may help you fix and adjust your toilet if the flapper closes too soon or too late.

    I had an issue with one of my toilets running all the time quite a few years ago. A friend who was over one day looked at it and said it needed new parts, so he replaced them. This fixed the running, but the toilet never flushed as good again. It's a third bathroom, and I rarely use it, so I didn't bother much to investigate until today. I adjusted the chain. No difference. I adjusted the float. No difference. Then I pulled the flapper out to clean it and noticed it had max/min imprinted on it. I've never seen that before, so I Googled what it meant, and it brought me to your video. My toilets are dated Oct 1968, so they take a lot of water to flush properly. I adjusted it to max, re-installed, turned back on the water, and VIOLA! The crapper is back in business 🙌

    Spinning from 1 to MAX moves to Top Hole to a lower Position when the Flapper has been Lifted.
    This keeps the Top Hole underwater longer as the Water Level decreases.
    Hence a "longer Flush".

  • @user-rw9gi5dq1b
    @user-rw9gi5dq1b Před rokem +6

    So for anyone who still might be confused the lower the setting, the less water gets flushed and the higher the setting the more water gets flushed.

    Thanks for this. Had mine on the lowest but it wouldn't clear a reasonable amount of paper and I had a backup. But I adjusted to a little less than mid range and I get more flushing power.

    I can't get my flapper off the pegs- seems like a fluidmaster. It looks like I can interchange the part from the middle. Like it pops in and out of the middle. Is this correct?

    I was still getting a bit confused with the "less water, more water". So, if the flapper is closing too soon, adjust to a higher setting. This keeps the flapper open longer.

    • @HacksbyDad
      @HacksbyDad  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi.
      1. Please check if the valve seat is damaged. That's the surface that the flapper contacts. If it is damaged, the entire flush valve assembly should be replaced. There is a repair kit 555C for 2" flush valves, but I haven't used and tested it.
      2. Please check that you have the correct flapper size... czcams.com/video/DXNniZYqPZ4/video.html
      3. Please check that there is enough slack in the chain... czcams.com/video/yIZxPbjKw14/video.html
      Hope this helps.

    So does it work good or not? Is this a buy recommendation? What's your conclusion?

    • @HacksbyDad
      @HacksbyDad  Před 2 lety +1

      It works. It allows you to adjust the amount of water that flushes to the bowl. So does the flapper with the foam float. I was curious to figure out how it worked.
      😎

    • @jonfreeman9682
      @jonfreeman9682 Před 2 lety

      Tx for replying. I saw a video that explained it works simply by adjusting how much water is trapped inside the bulb so the more water inside means the quicker it drops to close the flap. Less buoyancy. Something like that. Most importantly I want to ask does it leak? Does this form a tight seal with no leaks?

    • @HacksbyDad
      @HacksbyDad  Před 2 lety +1

      @@jonfreeman9682 Oh... ok. Yes, it forms a tight seal. I've had this flapper in my two toilets for the past 5 years or so. No problems with them. 😎

    • @jonfreeman9682
      @jonfreeman9682 Před 2 lety

      Thank you sir. My water bill skyrocketed 8x and I freaked out so I'm gonna replace all my toilet flappers with this and fingers crossed it seals the deal. I can't afford to pay $2000+ water bill a year and I'm not even getting the joy of sitting and flushing the toilet.

    • @jonfreeman9682
      @jonfreeman9682 Před 2 lety

      Thanks for verifying that I'll get at least 5 years of mileage. The warranty is 5 years but it's meaningless if it doesn't work in the first place. My old one was at least 7 years and guess it bit the dust. Hopefully this adjuster knob can help save some water too.

    • @HacksbyDad

      Hi there... first thing I would check is if the chain is too loose. Watch this video... czcams.com/video/yIZxPbjKw14/video.html
      The next thing you can check is if the tank water level is 1/2 to 1 inch below the top of the overflow pipe. Watch towards the end of this video... czcams.com/video/Mv5V44pgSdE/video.html
      I hope one of these helps to solve the problem.

    Doesn't seem like 1-5 would even empty the bowl.

    • @HacksbyDad
      @HacksbyDad  Před 2 lety

      The best setting will depend on the specific tank and bowl setup. Same goes for the flappers with the foam floats. They need to be able to cover the numerous toilet models from the various manufacturers.
