I was infected in December in 2019 in while visiting Southern California for Xmas before the outbreak in China. I still suffer from Long Covid. I had 5 relatives and 6 friends died in 2020 in various part of the country mostly in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and California, aged from 54-95. As long as you are not infected with serious illness and affected what is around you , you may not feel concerned and treat that it is an issue. I wish that there were some kinds of policies in dealing with the situation. I still don't know how long my long Covid suffering will be. It is getting depressing.

Dr. Campbell's explanation of the intellectual dialectic, and what we lose as a free society when we allow the single narrative of the powerful to shame us into self-censorship, is the single clearest description of this crisis I have heard. It's simple and brilliant. It's also hauntingly accurate. We're at a crossroads as free people. Getting back on the path of open dialogue about pressing issues in our society is not going to be easy going. If the results contradict what we believe is scientific, then would that still be classified as scientific?
As I mentioned in another comment, I don't know about the current latest version of Omicron. But what China has been doing CLEARLY did work for *ALL* earlier versions of Covid *INCLUDING* the previous versions of Omicron.
They've had 2 full years of relatively safe and free life while most of the rest of the world was going through non-stop lockdowns.
I guess you might say I'm lying and the Chinese govt was hiding the real situation in those 2 years.
I can't put video links in Dr Campbell's channel. But if you suggest a place where I can share a few CZcams links to show you what life was like during those 2 years in China, then you can judge FOR YOURSELF if it looks even remotely believable that the Chinese govt was lying.

Greetings from Shanghai and thank you for such a clear assessment of the situation here. One comment “asymptomatic cases” has a uniquely Chinese definition. It does not mean no or very mild symptoms rather it is defined as being the absence of lung damage evidenced on a CT scan. Not many Covid cases get a CT scan so the number of “asymptomatic cases” is very misleading. Many thanks indeed for your excellent content.

Besides, even the overall numbers are made up because of the CT values of the COVID tests were 35, now 40, not the international standard which is 30. Each 5 added to this number means there should be 100x more virus in the sample for it to be tested positive. Disgusting.

Thank you for a nuanced and self-reflecting talk. I'm Chinese, and every day I opened WeChat, I saw my friends back home posting very disturbing stories, mostly describing how the most vulnerable groups of people suffered the most due to the lockdown that defies scientific evidence. A lot of elderly Chinese people do not know how to use smartphones - without smartphones, they couldn't even get food because most food supplies now come from "group buys", which requires a person to order from an app (and you have to repeatedly try to tap on the order button to have the remote hope of getting the order through). The vision-challenged couldn't use apps and many of them don't have access to screen readers. Some relied on bland noodles for weeks. Despite the fact that China's medical system is not well prepared to handle massive hospitalization, the collateral damage is outweighing the "benefits" every day. The government is not so concerned about science but more about how it looks if they suddenly changed policy and it didn't go well - it's tied to their need for absolute credibility.
Yesterday a friend of mine posted something about a Chinese official defending why any complaints about the lockdown posted on social media were so swiftly deleted - apparently he was quoted saying local officials have been taking the complaints from social media into consideration as they are posted and making policy changes as they go (they have not). He said the "system" (of deleting posts, among others) works well for China, unlike what's going on in the West. They are absolutely the expert in spinning the narrative in any way possible to make it seem like they are always correct.
When you mentioned "I imagined very few people are licking the pavement" in reference to the irrational spraying of the streets, that was the first real laugh I've had in days. These days I'm getting too heart-broken to see the news back home.
I appreciate that this video is not merely about criticizing China, although they clearly are going down the very wrong path (even though up until the Omicron wave, their way of handling the pandemic seemed to be more effective than the disasters in the West). All of my family members are there and it's torture not being able to do anything to help (they made it next to impossible for most people to travel there - I tried). But the nationalist sentiment remains very strong in China, the majority of people, including my own parents, are still very supportive of the government's approach. Critical thinking and questioning authorities is simply not an option there - if you were brought up not knowing these are possible, why would you change now? I love my parents - although I differ from their point of view greatly, I do not attempt to challenge them too much.
Your last point about how academia freedom of speech (or freedom of speech in general) in the West has been corroded away in the past few decades - I have also seen this happen. Freedom of speech is indeed slipping away in the West and people are very quick to point fingers. Everything in moderation has always been my mantra, but it seems like it's not possible when certain interests are involved. Without your channel, I think a lot of people would have been in the dark. Thank you for doing what you do.

Well, here’s the thing: China is accomplishing what Dr. Campbell and every mainstream epidemiologist wanted countries to do during 2020-21, which was to flatten the curve of infections to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed with covid patients. With the earlier variants, the idea being propagated by Dr. Campbell and many others was that this could be accomplished if everyone wore masks and social distanced. Protecting hospital capacity was said to justify all damage to mental health and the economy from these NPIs. Now with Omicron, it’s obvious to almost everyone that those mitigations cannot meaningfully alter the infection curve. There’s only one option, and that is Shanghai-style lockdown. It is flattening the curve. The number of symptomatic cases is not enough to overrun the hospitals. Wasn’t that the goal that trumped all liberal values of democratic countries? We endured two years of being lectured about making sacrifices to protect hospitals. I’m not saying whether the covid mandates of other countries during 2020-21 were justified, or whether what China’s doing now is justified. But anyone who preached masks and distancing earlier in the pandemic but now criticizes Shanghai’s lockdown, is not being coherent with their values.

Or, are many of us, just needing the one narrative cause we can't think for ourselves ? This could be the chicken or the egg dynamic. Either way I think you've hit the nail on the head, sadly :(

@@AcimSharon.Living in a Communist country until the age of 23. Your comment makes lots of sense to me. In Cuba we have an oppressive regime. Even though we are lot more population than 'the dictators' in the government.
It's very difficult to overturn a system without the support of other countries. Because Cuban people inside that system are suffering the Stockholm syndrome.
They've suffered so much abuse for so long, that the only reference they have is the one from their captors.
The reality they see, is distorted. The information they receive is strictly controlled by the regime, in every aspect of their lives. What to eat, what to say and where, what to do, where to go, how much material possessions you own, where and when you have to work, what news you watch and so on. The problem is deeper than that, but I tried to resume here as much as I can.
If people protest on the streets, you rest assured that the consequences are going to be severe, from beatings, long prison sentences, permanent abuse outside your house, vandalism of your property, etc. All of these orchestrated and executed by the Cuban regime. Stating excuses like this is happening for our own sake. Using Cubans against Cubans. The ones with the regime always win. The ones opposing the regime always loose.
I resist to believe the Government's form the Western countries don't have any idea. What is hidden underneath these sinister regimes. And keep sending money to support their false Socialism. That money goes entirely to feed their totalitarian greediness. NOT TO the Cuban population.
63 years in power is the result of that support the Western countries keep giving them, massive donations, and publicity of their false 'good medical system'.
I am lucky, I could escape their claws. 30 years in the UK. I am still having anxiety about shortages of food, or being terrified of the police, even the security person on the door makes me anxious.
Dr Campbell here makes us all reflect in a very intelligent and positive way.
In my opinion we are reaching a point of not return of our freedom of expression and other liberties.
We are allowing the governments everywhere to dictate what we say, and how we say it.
That's the beginning of the dictatorship totalitarian regime. That's what they are trying to copy and impose on us. And they are NOT HIDING IT EITHER!

His 'China is Building a SIMP Army' segment was informative as well.
I am reminded of once when a lady friend in Beijing who worked in the news for BTV-5, asked if I would do an interview with my impressions about Beijing. I agreed and later that night I saw myself on the Chinese national evening new, billed as a Swiss government banking official. They had over-dubbed my voice in Chinese and included English and Chinese subtitles saying that I was in Beijing on behalf of the Swiss government to do a deal with Bank Of China because China was the safest place in the world to bank and invest.

The slain ANZACs get a bugle call; the jab casualties get vilified and gaslighted. At last John is getting to the bottom of this current coup: nothing to do with public health, everything to do with establishing authoritarian dictatorships calling themselves democracies toward a global technocracy.
