    I love the Workchamp, my ex gave me one 6 years ago and it's been my most used pocket knife/multi tool. I LOVE that it has a locking blade. The only changes would be replacing a can opener for another blade, turning the can opener into a combo opener like you mentioned in your video. I always found the magnifying glass too small and would prefer a larger one as a separate tool, rather than adding it to the Workchamp like you talked about. I have no problems with every-day carrying this.

    I love the Workchamp. It’s a great outdoors knife and, while at the house, I’ve used it to cut a number of screws with the metal saw. I recently bought a 111mm Trekker to add to my outdoor knife set and, depending on where I’m going, I carry one or the other.

    I agree with you that the Workchamp has all the most likely to be used tools until you get into specialty tools. Also, as much as I like Leathermans (or Victorinox "multitools" like the Spirit), I just think this Workchamp design makes for an overall nicer, and more easy to use multi-tool design.

    I've used my Workchamp so much that I had to send it to Victorinox to replace the metal saw, which flattened the groove after some extensive metal filing. I ended up scuffling the scales a little as well, which will be taken care of by Victorinox. I carry the Workchamp in a sheath because it's big for the pocket carry. That solves the problem of the knife being rather bulky.

      Hi. This is useful information. Did Victorinox have you pay to replace the metal file? How much did they charge you? How long did the replacement take? Did you have to send it in to them? And, which country did you do this in?

      @@saviom8166 Hi Friend. You pay an insignificant fee to replace each tool. I don't remember exactly how much it was because it was a year ago, but believe me, it's cheap. The turnaround time was rather long because of Covid restrictions but under normal circumstances it's fast. Lastly, Victorinox is a global company so I'm sure they can serve you in your location w/o problems.

    I think with the work champ Victorinox could make the pliers longer and thicker also. Even larger scissors with it being 111mm, also agree it should have a pen in the scale tools. But great toolset on this knife, I think a larger cyber tool would also be awesome on the larger vics.

    Hi again. Got me the WORKCHAMP XL. AWESOME! I'm with you 100% with regards to all that nonsense about oversized SAKs, MTs etc. Anyway, I have some points when it comes to the choice of tools (or rather the poor choice of certain implements as opposed to essential tools being left out). In short and in specific with regards to the XL model, VIC ought to have included the chisel (and definitely a large one) and the multi purpose hook; they ought to have dropped the combo tool and the hoof cleaner; they ought to have included a longer awl; Regardless, the XL simply rocks. Sometime till Friday, I shall get the proprietary pouch, since I am an advocate of "belt carry". At some point, I plan to get the plain WORKCHAMP as well. Why?.. Well, firstly because I am a SAK-AE (Addict Eponymous) and secondly because... I am a SAK-AE (Addict Eponymous) ... ROFL!.. Seriously now... I am hooked on SAKs and MTs, because I too, both collect them and use them. Never miss an opportunity to pursue a new learning curve, distinguish the benefit from others' insight, experiment etc. Signing off. Cheers! George.

    I’d like to have seen an in-line awl like on the pioneer range then it would be perfect... perhaps use the combi opening tool from the 111mm hunter in place of the can opener then fit the awl in place of the bottle opener? Then in the space on the back of the usual reamer awl replace it with the chisel tool from the swisstool?

    Excellent survey -- I too chose this model over the Swisschamp for reasons of tool size and completeness. FYI, the latest version has liner locks on both the blade and bottle opener/large screwdriver instead of the button lock, and the awl is without a sewing eye -- but it does have enough flat edge to serve as a package opener and suchlike, keeping the main blade from "unnecessary roughness"!

I'm considering returning/exchanging it. I just don't want to waste Amazon's time if it's a common issue. I also don't want to get another one with the same problem and feel like a picky jerk :)

      @TheKimjoh560 Před 7 lety +1

      Sam Squanch Yeah, slight up and down play is present on alot of victorinox knives. Its nothing to worry about. It doesnt rattle when you shake it or anything, right? I have several of the larger models and they all have some minor play if you pinch the blade and wiggle it.

    • @samsquanch6074
      @samsquanch6074 Před 7 lety +1

      Thank you! This is just what I needed to hear. I actually bought a second one in case I wished to return the first, and they both have the same vertical play. It doesn't rattle when I shake it, so it seems to be a result of the locking mechanism. I heard that the thumb lock doesn't grip the blade, but rather the spring. That might explain the slight play. It certainly doesn't affect the function of the tool. I'm glad to have one for the car and one for the house :) Cheers!

    Its very nice, I had not seen this one before. I have the original Swiss Champ that has the same style pliers and I have used them for small things, but I always wondered how effective they really are and Ive not seen anyone actually test the pliers to their capacity with various nuts and torque to failure, etc. It would be interesting I think. The only problem with mine is the spring somehow shifted and bent.

    Well - it is very nice, I ordered one from amazon, it arrived well oiled and sturdy looking, however:
    - The knife blade had upwards/downwards play, producing a clicking noise on cuts and an annoying loose feel.
    - The saw blade had been imperfectly machined - the teeth were uneven and somewhat malformed with leftover metal residue from the moulding or stamping process.
    - The degree of sharpness was comparable to the blade of my vintage Victoria swiss army knife after 35 years of use with no sharpening. Still sharp but not proper sharp, which is impressive for the vintage but not so much for a knife fresh from the factory.
    - The same actually went for the scissors - same levels of sharpness only one knife is 35+ years old ...
    - It also did not have the advertized locking mechanism on the side, but that may be due to European legislation about fixed blade folders, or whatever. It does lock, but you have to pull a metal locking piece to one side to fold it. (Frankly I prefer that - I think that grey slider is butt-ugly, even if possibly practical and seems likely to sustain damage or fill up with gunk in the long run, with heavy outdoor usage You'll never get fish slime out of there without soaping the whole thing down, and having to re-oil everything ...).
    I've ordered a replacement, so we'll see how they do on second try ...
    It IS a heavy knife for a pocket knife if weight is more of an acute issue in your hiking setup. Personally I use a parang machete paired with a traditional wood handle mora and my vintage Victoria Swiss army knife. The Work Champ probably weighs almost the same as the mora and the vintage combined, but then again it sort of eliminates the need for the mora, although nothing much really competes with something like that for general camp and wood-crafting purposes.

      @@WeAllJuggleKnives Yeah somewhat - we'll see how they do on the return model. I am a little interested to see if the steel generally feels any different than the old one. I remember it came with near-surgical levels of sharpness which surprised me a lot at the time with that kind of grind, coming mainly from moras/scandis ...

      Gonna address a few of your concerns and explain how they are typical.....
      1 ALL 111mm SAKs have vertical play. It's the nature of the mechanism.
      2 ALL SAK wood saws have burrs on them when brand new. The burrs come immediately off the second you use it
      3 ALL 111mm SAKs now come with a liner lock, NOT the slide lock.

And if you were to recommend me a knife with a locking blade, that can't be open with one hand (because that's sadly illegal here in Denmark), and it has a variety of features, suitable for things like camping and tinkering (screwdrivers etc.) because i think the workchamp is the one, but i'd like to hear you opinion :)

      Yes the Workchamp is the one if you need a locking blade. My favorite is probably either the Victorinox Ranger or the old Wenger Backpacker, since they give a lot of usefulness relative to their size. The Alox Harvester is also pretty sweet.

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  Před 6 lety +1

      I've done some research on the corkscrew and it turns out that most people who advocate the corkscrew don't use it for wine, most of them said they use it as a scraping device or to undo knots. I like that it can hold the glasses screwdriver, I think they should develop a small pen that it could hold. In the end, I do think Victorinox should do away with the Corkscrew on most models, because even though it has other uses, the public perception as a wine-opening tool is negative, and I do think they would sell more SAKS without it.

    • @JohnDavidDunlap
      @JohnDavidDunlap Před 6 lety +1

      A glasses screwdriver, I do think they should have. Pens and corkscrews not so much. I could untie knots and scrape things with the other tools. But, to each his own I guess. They make the Fieldmaster and that's really all I need.

    I love Vics but I hate how the blades need sharpening every 5 mins. They should sort that and add one handed opening on the blade. And add diamond file.. Perhaps make the pliers better... Oh wait now its Leatherman. ;)
    Large heavy duty Vics just doesnt make sense to me because they are too flimsy and the steel is too soft. If its flimsy it needs a redeeming quality like being really pocketable and this one isnt. What about that high end folder in your other pocket? Sure, but if you feel the need to carry 3 blades where one makes the other two seem completely useless you might want to rethink a couple of things about your equipment.
