I play games with myself. Ill go on Amazon and go shopping for things i would like. Then i put them in my cart. Then i go back in my cart the next day and decide its too much money--then ill put half of the things in a save for later. The next day ill go nack and look at my cart and see that most pf it isnt necessary, so i put that in save for later.. the whole process takes about a week, but i end up deleting everything!! The funny part is i still felt like i went shopping! Lol!

My husband and I are doing the no spend January and it’s been successful. I have done #5 to reflect and adjust. I have journaled our purchases and that has felt good. To actually go into a store and buy exactly what is on my shopping list. The other thing that has helped is shopping one day a week. We also have been eating leftovers and going through our freezer to plan meals around meat I already have.

Great tips and ideas! Thanks for sharing. I am doing a no-spend January and then low-spend for the rest of the year (possibly another no-spend month during the summer). In January I will be doing shelf-cooking (cause my freezer is packed!). No new clothes in 2024 and 30-Day waiting period on all non-essential items plus paying cash for any items I follow through on purchasing after the 30 days. This past year, I did a daily budget check-in and will continue that this year (it was eye-opening to say the least) and lastly, no credit card purchases in 2024.

I’m doing a pantry challenge.. I found baby back ribs today that had to be marked wrong $.89 a pound a full rack.. for less then $4 I grabbed 2.and I have a half a ham from Christmas and the ham was less then $8..,there are deals out here.. I did my inventory today and was surprised .. I probably have a month or longer of food.. friends here is a tip.. sit down and write a list of every food item in your home..as you use stuff you will know what’s running low ..,I have a list I keep on my phone and have for the last year.. so it’s always with me.. as things run out or run low I know exactly what I need to grab.. I budget 300.00 a month.. doing so I may not need but $200
Now I can tell you now I probably have enough meat for the month of January and maybe some of February because I’m starting with those scraps I froze and I’m going to make a pot of whatever in this bag soup.. and portion and freeze.. so that will generate several servings just from scraps

    I am planning a no-spend 2024.
I intend to spend on essentials only for the year (with a couple of planned & budgeted exceptions).
Thankfully we don't normally eat out, so that is not a challenge. My weakness is my puppies! They have enough treats and toys to last for months!!!
We will be eating through what is in our freezer for the month of January. Only fresh produce is on the list for shopping this next month.
We don't have a pantry and we don't eat processed or packaged foods due to allergies. We eat fresh or frozen single ingredient foods only & cook all meals at home (pack lunches). So it is a bit challenging in winter to keep the grocery budget in check. However meal planning is pretty basic.

My first thought when I starting watching this episode was, “boy, I’m glad I did my shopping/spending this morning beforehand”…😂 my income has been up/down for last couple years so my bills (utilities) are paid months in advance, I pressure can regularly and put back a little when I do grocery shop (around every 4-6 weeks). I got an old debt owed to me paid so that was bonus. (I had mentally written off ever getting it back)so today I stocked up on dog food, treats, some personal care items I’ve been wanting (I keep a running list of needs and wants to refer to for prioritizing what items would be purchased). Clearly this isn’t your recommended method but it’s been working for me for this time and now it’ll be another 4-6 weeks before any shopping/buying is done (guess I’m in the bandwagon afterall! 😉)

Well. One “bad” habit I consider essential. It’s better than becoming a psycho without it. 😂😂 (But even with that I go cheap considering the average going price). Or maybe 2 things, the other being cheap, limited cola. Lol. I think about it tho. I prob spend less overall than those who don’t have said “bad” habit. Lol. And that’s what it’s all about I reckon. Picking priorities. You simply can’t have everything you want all the time if you don’t want to wind up living hand to mouth. Sacrifices have to be made so the choice is what is to be sacrificed and when or for how long?
Lol. Hmmm. Basic hygiene. Cat food. Basic meals (mostly at home). Coffee needs. (Daily, at home…not a lot of fancy lattes out lol). And for me pet cleaning needs and litter box supplies etc.
I think I’m doing ok tho as my goal is to become the most savvy procurer of all things. I think I hit my mark most times…about 90%. My only splurges this month were prob pizza parlor one night and that one full price candy bar I bought. Lol.

Why select January for your “no spend month.” ? January many items are on sale. I take advantage of that. I usually only buy things that I need, not want. I comparison price shop all of the time. I rarely buy expensive foods. They are not necessary. I love books. I often buy them used.. there are many ways to save money that are more effective than a no spend month. Consistent thrifting seems more important to American.
