    Most of us suffered the early years of pain by making dumb $$$ decisions. If you learned from it you have won! Give yourself a well deserved pat on the back :-)

    Grocery Shopping - I have two questions "when will I cook it?" and then "when will I eat it?" groceries are not a resource, they are a responsibility.

      Many years ago, there was a report on one of the TV news magazines (20/20?) advising to always try to negotiate the price, even if it is only "rounding down" from, say, $20.25 to an even $20.00. I (jokingly) did this once in Walmart, and the cashier gave me the "Are you crazy?" Look. 🤣

    A simple thing I did to start managing my finances was to give myself a cash allowance for personal purchases (eg $40 a week). At the end of each week I topped up my allowance for the amount I'd spent, so I had $40 again. All the underspends in my "allowance" became savings in my bank account. Very simple and easy to manage

    I definitely do the 48 hour rule. I keep a list. I give myself a set amount of money each month for “shopping”. This includes anything that isn’t groceries, gas, rent or utilities. It could be personal care, household or other random things. Usually this category ranges from 0 in a no spend month to 100 in a more generous month. I will say that I get the dopamine rush from getting rid of things or selling things I don’t use as much as I do from new things. I think I’ve sold 600$ or more of craft supplies and things I don’t use this year alone.

    Impulse Purchases. If you include this in your budget for those random exciting unexpected items then you can make a choice throughout your shopping trip. Budget $30. One thirty dollar item vs two fifteen dollar items. If that makes sense.

      Then you get to reward yourself, instead of always being stuck on a budgeted list of needs.

    The balance in my purse at the end of the month goes into a till which adds up in time. If I use it during the month I ensure that I replace it. When buying veggies I check on the prices and buy the cheaper ones. I am not enticed by sales at clothes shops.
    Yes I am at the moment trying to get into two side hustles.

    how much interest is good for a high yield savings account? My savings account gives 4%. How much is considered high?

    • @katv1195
      @katv1195 Před 4 dny +1

      4% isn't bad. You can get higher interest but generally the higher the rates the higher the possible risk.
