  • Nike Pegasus Trail 4 Gore-Tex Review - First Impressions (HUGE Weight Drop) - welcome back to another video and today I am giving you my first impressions review of the nike pegasus trail 4 gore-tex. This shoe has had a makeover and for the better, with a HUGE weight drop, the nike pegasus trail 4 gore-text suddenly jumps up into a whole new category and despite it being designed as a commuter trail shoe, I now feel this can serve multiple purposes!

    I agree. The mid sole here, whatever they did to the react in this shoe, just makes it feel like it part of your foot. I have the Peg 39's, and they are, by far, a different ride. The Zoom air bags in that shoe just felt like a wade of gum some one through on the sidewalk, and I stepped in it. I wore these in the rain here in Oklahoma for two days, commuting, and hiking, and they were fantastic. My feet stayed completely dry. I never felt Overheated, because of the Gortex, and like most other React foam shoes, the more you where them the softer they get. I will also be wearing mine more than I intended to, just because the fit so well.

    Just picked up these shoes over boxing day as a Canadian Winter trail runner. ParkRun this week had a few inches of snow on the trail and I found my toes wet and cold so wanted something with good traction and Gore-Tex waterproofing. Tried these on and the wide toe box and general comfy feel made them a no brainer purchase. Looking forward to the recent freezing rain to go away so I can go for a snow rip in these beauties!

    My GoreTex Trail 3 soles are starting to wear down, so I’m excited to hear that these have a more responsive midsole. The 3s have never felt like they transfer energy all that well, however, have the perfect stability for me.
    And nothing beats being able to go out on a drizzling day with headphones in, not a care in the world.

  • @TimGrose
    @TimGrose Před rokem +15

    Good to see this. You got the "wacky" colour. I went for the black one thinking will soon end up that way. I reviewed it a few weeks when we were in the middle of a heatwave which seemed a bit odd although the waterproof tests I did cooled me down a bit although I found them surprisingly breathable in relative terms anyway. Agree seems a good improvement on the 3 - losing a fair bit of weight - although mine were a bit different weight wise despite us both being UK 13 - 370g in the 4 and 396g in the 3. The 2 was higher still at 410g so definitely going the right way. I think what they have done is turned it from an out and out "everyday" trail shoe to a more of a road to trail shoe as I found them very comfortable on the road. As you say the foam feels softer but I think that is partly as the outsole is not as rugged as a "normal" trail shoe which has also helped save weight. That suits me fine as I like to use a shoe like this on "off road" runable trails like old railways and/or like your forest ones which are often bone dry in summer but usually anything but in the winter. Water proofing worked very well with only water seeping a little bit if I ran through fords about 6 inches deep which is rare! That gaiter did help there too. I thought it was "true to size" length wise for me and should accommodate quite a lot of foot widths as I had to pull in the laces a fair bit with my narrow feet. I guess with trail shoes it depends what thickness of socks you like to use. If you want to use thicker ones and are "between" sizes then probably best to go up. Anyway I much preferred this one to the Zegama which is somewhat heavier and indeed feels it.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  Před rokem +1

      Yeah the weight reduction in each version is promising, funny how our weight are different being the same size shoes 😂 let’s hope they keep dropping the weight down even more for future versions!

    In have the gore Tex v2 and I ended up using it in soft snow when we had it (rare, but happened in the Uk) I’ve also ended up using it for gardening in between the running. I just found it came up a bit small, especially compared to the standard peg. Just brought the non gore Tex v4 for the winter as I mostly run local parks, and the gore Tex was a bit over kill.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  Před rokem

      I see a few people in the comments opted for the non gore-tex option actually, seems like a popular choice!

  • @runfrankfurt
    @runfrankfurt Před rokem +4

    Gore-Tex shoes are in my opinion not made for longer runs when it is raining. While the material will keep water from going through the upper, there is always one big issue:
    we all know it, if it is raining then the water will be running down your legs and will run down your ankles right into the socks and shoes. The collar is not going to be tight enough to stop it from entering your shoes. So eventually all of the water will start accumulating inside of the shoe, soaking your socks and in the end collecting like a puddle inside the shoe as the material won‘t let it escape. This will lead to a lot of weight and makes it feel like you are running barefooted through puddles the whole time. 😝
    What is a GTX shoe best for: those cold and wet winter months, when it is not actually raining but generally wet outside. Lots of puddles and potential mud, slush or snow. These shoes will do a perfect job keeping your feet dry and warm in those conditions. Or when you are not running too long and you only have light rain or drizzle, then they will hold up great a s well.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  Před rokem +1

      Love this 👏 very true as well, although I did mind that material around the top to fit well around the top of the foot. But yes inevitably some water will get in!

    I'm comparing it to the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Shield (my previous shoes) and the Hoka Challenger ATR 6 GTX (what I bought after trying to like the Pegasus Trail 4 GTX).
    What gives? Is there much variability in manufacturing? Are they "plush" relative to the typical trail shoe? Do they need a breaking-in?
