- When the temperatures drop and the snow begins to pile, I reach for a goretex trail shoe.
A trail shoe gives better traction on messy winter roads. And Goretex keeps me drier longer, which is critical for those winter temps where the last thing you want to be is wet. This is the Pegasus Trail 4 Goretex, and it may be my perfect winter running shoe.

Ran 10k this morning in these.
I’m in the Middle East currently - so no snow but ran light trail - rocks, hard rain , mud and puddles
They did great!
Feet were totally dry, and the react foam felt very Zoom X like- was able to pick up pace to almost marathon pace.
The lugs had enough depth to keep me stable in the mud up and down hills.
Overall - a real winner ! Totally recommend!

The peg trails have been some of the most comfy shoes I have owned, I use them for casual walking all the time they are amazing. It baffles me why they don’t make the normal Pegasus with the same midsole. It would make it an amazing daily trainer.

Did a 10k run this morning in snow in Sweden. Fantastic shoe. Been wearing it casually in winter weather here as well. Pretty much the perfect winter shoe.
First time I tried on the Pegasus Trail 4, I was really surprised at how comfortable it was. Definitely feel ya on this review. One thing I did notice is that they removed the zoom air packets. This shoe is indeed the best pegasus in a while.
I returned Trail 4 after the first run because it caused me a very bad scratch on my right ankle. But this one? It's honey!!! Love it love it.
Just bought this shoe and absolutely love it. Only tested on wet road so far here in UK but super comfortable, so much so that I've been wearing day to day for trips to the shops and walking the dog!
Got mine for 40 quid couple of days ago. No brainer.

It’s great to see that Nike is starting to dial in their trails shoes. Looks like all brands are following suit and take their trails shoes to the next level 💪
Truly one of the best step-in comfort shoes I’ve ever tried which is wild seeing as it’s from the Pegasus line. Great great shoes
They’re awesome! I’ve put 200 miles on mine in about 35 days and I couldn’t be happier. They are good straight out the box but get comfier the more I’ve worn them. I’ve been really impressed with the sole durability especially because it’s not vibram and comparing to other Nikes whose soles wear quick.
I’ve been running in this since last month, through CRAZY temps and conditions. Love it so much! It is just about perfect.
Nike had a members discount a few days ago and I ordered these for the gloopy Lakewood forest preserve trails in Illinois. I took these GTX for a 13K trail today, and these kicks kept up! Aside from people on horseback, I was the only one trekking through the snowy footstep trashed trail, awesome! Thanks for the review!

Been running in these since November. Great winter running shoes! My runs consist of asfalt and gravel roads, they perform very well on both surfaces. Foam is great and it stays soft in temperatures around freezing point, not all my running shoes perform well in winter...also warm enough for winter and water/snow resistant.
Ahh I remember I subbed to this channel during lockdown, when I developed a slight obsession for both running and sneakers. Unfortunately both passions have subsided since then, although I do mange to go running fairly often, I just cant stick to it routinely, and I got bored of sneakers being released that were the same shoe just in different colours.
Im still glad I subbed to this channel as I find it interesting and informative and I marvel at the host's motivation and discipline. Also my peg 36 trail goretex are still going strong but when I need to replace them I will be coming here for advice.
I know that these are my go to winter running shoe! Been running almost all my miles in them in snow, sludge, rain, and ice! They’re so nice, I bought em twice!

How's the grip man? I have the Peg Trail 3 goretex and the traction is absolutely horrendous in the rain or on muddy trails (side note: the dynamic turquoise/crimson colorway on the v3 goretex is one of the best black shoe designs I've ever seen). Believe In The Run flagged this on v3 as well, and I remember hearing that it improved on v4. Any thoughts / comparisons for the rubber on v4? I just picked up a pair of Norda 001 to replace my Peg Trail 3 since the Nikes are useless when it's wet - hoping the Vibram Megagrip rubber will be much better

I have the standard Trail 4 and it's definitely the best Pegasus for a while, totally agree there.
The trail 4 is completely different to the previous version and is great to run in. Even compared to the Peg 39 I think the Trail 4 is better, the 39 just feels way too firm in comparison to the react foam in the trail shoe.
How is the fit? In the gtx 3 Pegasus I went a half size up? U suggest to do the same?

If it weren’t for a sudden knee pain that’s developed (I slipped on some ice but it didn’t hurt until the next day), I’d be absolutely loving mine. As is, they’ve been perfectly fine and suited for winter running, but I do wish for even more… maybe protection? For my knees on longer runs, as I feel the impact by the end. But it is definitely a much better version of react than the road Peg shoes.
Literally just got these in the mail yesterday, and today’s forecast now calls for wintry mix to snow. It’s a sign.
I ordered a pair of these after your review. They run surprisingly good on the road for Z2 and Z3 type efforts. Really pretty great. I didn’t try to bring the pace up over that. My run was in snow/freezing rain for an hour. My feet got wet. I think the problem is the gaiter absorbs water over time.

Very timely, I have been looking for a good trail shoe and would never have considered anything with the Pegasus name. I have tried two pair of Pegasus' the 38 and 39, I hated both. I live in Florida but I do a few cold weather runs per year and just started doing trail running last year, I don't think I will ever run in snow or ice but have run in cold and wet conditions.
I concur- a great choice for running on hard pack snow and/or cold conditions….although I don’t recommend running outside when it’s below 15F (-10C). 🥶
Mine just arrived yesterday and can't wait to take them out for a spin after watching your excellent review, Mike! I purchased them to replace my old Pegasus Turbo Shield (also recommended by you) which were no longer waterproof on my rainy runs last week. BTW, only the men's peg trails are on sale, women's are still full price.
Oh, Pegasus Turbo Shields are my favourite running shoes for autumn /mild winter. Mine are still ok, I spray them once in a while with liquidproof but they won´t last forever and they are not gore-tex, thats for sure. Also their traction is also not very good on our slippery snowy winter roads. How are the Pegasus Trail 4 GTX compared to Turbo Shields? Are they as light and soft on feet?
@@300876mina Good idea to spray the Turbo Shields. I think I'll give that a try! The Pegasus Trail 4 GTX don't feel as light and nimble as the Pegasus Turbo shields. My feet also got wet in them when doing a long run in the rain. Unfortunately, I ended them returning them because they aggravated my bunion too on my 16 miler. Had high hopes for them but they just didn't work for my feet.
@@leonaleewong Sorry to hear that! I´m on hunt for a pair of gore tex running shoes. Well my Pegasus Turbo Shields still have some life left but they won´t last forever. I have old Asics Gel-FujiRado gtx ones but they are too stiff for my liking. Contemplating between Pegasus Trail GTX or New Balance Hierro V7 GTX and like a typical woman can´t decide. No place here where i live to try them on either to make up my mind.

Exactly! It is very frustrating to purchase a shoe and hate it as it feels dead out of the box. I have sworn to not purchase another shoe with react but I may take a look at this.
I run Pegasus Trail 3. Nice door to trail shoes, great feel on sidewalks, roads, gravel, dirt. On the other hand, a nightmare on wet stones, wet ground. I only use them when it's dry outside. I read that the Peg Trail 4s inherited that bad slippery sole, hope they thought better about the GTX version.
I got one w similar colours by xmas, on a sale in the UK! Perfect, as I was looking for a trail shoes for training. It feels great and did long runs with it already! 🎉 and I like using it everywhere as it’s waterproof and the weather is miserable at the moment.

I’ve always loved the Pegasus series but the 39 has really let me down. Anything longer than 10 miles and my feet really start to feel it. Glad the trail version is much better

I bombed my previous comment trashing the shoe. I didn't know the midsole is different between the Trail 4 and the Trail 4 GTX, but apparently they are. I had the non-GTX version. 😅 Perhaps that minor difference in price between the two makes a big difference in what you get!

I have Nike Pegasus 36 Trail Gtx. Light and Nice. For mild winder and not too much snow. For real Siberian winter I prefer Salomon SuperCross 5 Gtx and Salomon SpikeCross 5 Gtx. That's real thing!

I have had a lot of issues when it comes to Nike shoes, such as being too narrow , not as comfortable , or not as reliable of a shoe , but I've been looking at these a lot and thinking of giving them a chance
i needed to wear speedgoat 5s in a wide, but when trying these on they were wide enough. try them on, and you might be as surprised as i was.

I bought these after seeing this video and I absolutely love them!! So much that I prefer them to my regular road shoes. Would love a pure road version of these but you mention that the road Pegasus does not have the same sole at all, has that changed since the making of this vid?

They are great, but! Stay away from them if you have any snow around, they are super slippery. My summer Nike React Infinity 3 less slippery on ice/snow then these :).

How do you wash them? I have the white khaki ones and they kinda became a bit yellowish, kinda like they have been oxidised. I washed them with a cleaning spray but it didnt do much, should I put em in the washing machine?

they'll be great. the concrete will wear down the lugs a bit faster than intended, but you'll be comfy

I bought this shoe last week and it just didn’t feel right to me. Felt a little too much arch in them under my left foot and unfortunately had to send them back. Other than that tho, they were comfortable. I got the rebel v3 permafrost for $55 tho so a win if they fit me better. I adore the peg 39 tho. I love that shoe

The tread on this shoe is so soft you can watch it wear almost in real time. Hates this shoe and bought and returned 2 pairs. Bought NB Hierro GTX and will never go back.
They actually look stylish enough to be worn as a lifestyle shoe. And their goretex... mmm might have to invest.

I’ve always understood React foam turns into a brick below freezing. It’s a surprise to see you didn’t have this experience. I went with Endorphin Speed 3 Runshields for this winter, they are the right sort of warm, but they don’t REALLY keep the water out.
This is the hill I will die on: the temperature effect on foams is way overstated
I ran in them in minus 40F and they were just fine

My Nike React Pegasus Trail 4 GORE-TEX had a detachment in the heel of the right foot in less than 100 days. Unfortunately, Nike in my country (Brazil) doesn't offer support for the problem.

I didn't review the 3rd version (I ran in versions 1, 2, and 4). So that makes it hard for me to give a good answer.
Also, you didn't specify why you didn't like it, so that makes it just about impossible.

I’d keep these for colder and wetter conditions. But on the plus side that could mean you could get several winters out of these and not have to buy a GTX shoe every year, depending on mileage and use.
the heel was very soft, the toe box not so much. at least thats what i got when i tried them one

I’m sorry, my experience proved the outsole on these is absolutely terrible for any wet or even damp grip, which is humorously ironic to make a gore Tex upper for wet conditions. But, I thought everything else about them was pretty good. I use them to mow the yard in….

Would you know how this would fair in warmer weather? I was looking for an all arounder I can just pick up and run in in any weather, particularly in warmer climates where I'd be running in many different road/trail conditions.

Hi i have a zoomfly 5 for road running i was wonder if this is a good idea to add the pegasus 4trail for rainy days
I have a hard time thinking of a white shoe as a real trail shoe (as I've said on the LS).
I run a lot of trails on my way to work, which are relatively flat. But, they are dirt, which means lots of puddles and mud in my area, which is very rainy in winter. I have heard some people say to avoid waterproof shoes as they collect all of the water, which then stays in the shoes. What do you think? Are these good for such conditions?
Water only gets in this shoe if you step in water above the ankle of the shoe. It’s fine as long as you don’t go through ankle deep water

there are two black color options available for this shoe. one of which is available on discount, if I'm not mistaken
