    We recently checked out the Rotorway A600 Helicopter; a quick build experimental helicopter that you can build in your garage. Here is owner of that Helicopter David giving us a second look and going more in-depth on the specs of his newly built helicopter.
    The A600 helicopter uses a converted custom built engines with power output of 168 HP. This is the turbocharged version. If you go for a standard A600 kit, then you’ll be down to 147 HP. The helicopter will climb at a respectable 1000 feet per minute and you are cruising between 80 to 100 miles per hour. A brand new A600 Talon kit which includes the engine runs for about $160,000
    Engine: RH600T 168HP
    Capacity: 2
    Useful load: 620 lbs
    Range: 200 miles
    Speed: 90 - 100 mph
    Price: $160,000

It was connected with Bawden cables if I remember correctly and I had previously seen that on power boats which were also heavy. Is this aircraft different or was I just flying a bad example perhaps? It's quite counter intuitive that when unpowered and working as a wind turbine in freefall that the rotor produces a lot of lift so you can fly it. I guess it makes sense as each blade gliding down and forward like a plane wing.

    • @superskullmaster
      @superskullmaster Před 4 lety

      Dan Frederiksen the rotor produces almost no lift while in autorotation (1500fpm at 70mph is a horrible glide ratio). The purpose of the negative pitch is to keep the rotors spinning, while the slowing of the rotors by increasing pitch near the bottom gives you the lift you need to not become a pile of burnt metal and flesh.

    • @DanFrederiksen
      @DanFrederiksen Před 4 lety

      @@superskullmaster 7.6m/s drop may not be the greatest hover but it's vastly better than free fall. So I think you are wrong. The rotor tip speed is probably a good portion of the speed of sound so the effective glide ratio might be better than a cessna.

      @watashiandroid8314 Před 4 lety
