The title says it all. For me, it's easily one of my favorite games of 2020 and I'd even say a strong contender for game of the year.

@@holo1560 Eh I haven't played most of the AC series in a long time, but I can say I genuinely enjoy playing Odyssey. In fact, I don't even know why they made it a part of the series, other than it keeps to the " These people were great assassins " subplot, Odyssey never feels like an AC game.

Have played all the AC games and Odyssey and 2 are my favorites. I know Odyssey is different but with the setting and being like a Spartan was bad ass. Just know that it's more action rpg and not as stealthy and can get repetitive.

I am Japanese and I am very inspired when I played this game. It reminded me of honor and nationalism we had which we seldom think about today. Old Japan revolved around poetics and beauty in our day to day life. This game managed to translate that into visuals which I find myself aweing the scenery often. I've been told that my family line was involved in boshin war. I can't imagine what my ancestors has gone through. And I should honor their sacrifice more often. I like to thank this game to remind myself where I am from and also not to forget to carry this to the future.

Actually, many shinobi (not all) were assassins. They did avoid combat, but there are documented cases of shinobi sharpshooters and poison experts attempting the lives of notable figures.
Also, most shinobi were not samurai. They were majorly trained from the common caste.

Way of the samurai 4 had so many fighting styles like legit it was crazy, and like 12 endings. It was a game you could replay and replay. Like the game is very short and it's meant to be replayed. It's also super cool, like the first playthrough you're weak and by the next one you're a bit stronger. Then the third one you're basically an OP samurai this is due to upgrading weapons which carry through playthroughs. Also you unlock costumes and outfits for your samurai when you do certain side quests or when you get specific endings. It was also pretty funny to pick a side then mid story decide to literally attack everyone. Also getting one of the true endings made you unlock a gun. And the Engrish from the British soldiers was hilarious. Way of the samurai 3 was also an awesome game but the tone was much more series. But unlike 4 in 3 you could switch to a non lethal fighting stance and also beat up every single character in the story at almost anytime you see them

22:47 It seems youtubers who get review copies forget that their review copy is pre-release and won't be as polished as the retail version with day 1 patch. So people who may try to stay away from unpolished games: these glitches and bugs have mostly, if not all been solved. I didn't encounter any of these in my playthru.
Great review Yong, your reviews are getting better and better.

Same with me. I began playing three days after release and platinumed it about a week and a half later. The only real issue that I recall was when I was tracking flowers with the guiding wind two days ago, and came upon a flower that was invisible. Any other issues that I may have encountered simply weren't significant enough to remember. Either that, or I really didn't encounter any.

This is the review I was hoping for. I was hesitant to be hyped about this game, but now I am looking forward to it after watching this. Thank you YongYea, you do fantastic work, as always.

the gaming industry is so repetitive that I get shocked when I see a genuinely unique and original game that's innovating.
EDIT: maybe innovation is not a good way to describe this game I get it, I said that since the combat seemed more complicated and unique to me than it actually is.

The IPs with annual releases can feel very repetitive.

This as a gaming genre (open world, sandbox, rpg) is nothing unique but the setting (realistic/ grounded Feudal Japan) has just been under used

Lock-On and Auto-Aim are the death of challenging video games. I learned to LOVE the lack of them noobifying the game. I started gaming in the 80's, went to college for game design and development, and generally LOVE gaming. I like the fact a game FINALLY came out that made you WORK for something and develop skills multitasking your controls. I got fluid with the camera and stance switches. The whole point was illustrated through the game tutorial. Slow, patient, concise. It feels like you're saying "This game is extremely challenging and requires intense focus. BOO!" Come on man.

I knew all I needed to know when the intro rolls and the two mains speak. " While you were sharpening your sword I too prepared. I learned your language, traditions. Which villages to tame and which to burn."
Ohhhhhhhhh it's this type of game.
