Worth mentioning that the multiplayer mode was tacked on after the PlayStation release. To the developer’s credit completely for free, in that context the multiplayer was amazing!
Yeah, at a time were developers were often charging people for content that was made pre release, SP made an entire free mode with dozens of hours of content. The fact the gameplay deviates from the main game is actually more impressive in that sense because it’s both free and relatively original. Whether you enjoyed it or not,it was extremely pro consumer
I've put so many hours into Legends
I've already put 50 hours into Legends on the PC version, It is awesome IMO.
If it was Tarkov it would of been 250 dollars. :)
@@RottenJeevesif it was destiny it would’ve been $300 😊
The wind, birds and foxes are such a perfect way to break away from old school waypointing.
Its not, just play game 20 hours + and you will see
@@Alexmaked222 I have played the game twice, 100% it. It was totally more engaging and refreshing than most open world games on the market. About the only time I really copened my map was when I was in the collectables stage of the 100% but by that time the foxes and birds are done their thing.
@Alexmaked222 why not?
@@Alexmaked222I never felt lost and in need to open the map. For convenience I did it sometimes - but the game never made me feel crazy impatient like say, other open world games.
I loved chasing foxes to their shrines.
Bro did 100% , I'm still at act 1
No shit. I'm roaming the map and completing everything until I realized zoom-out overview exists
ikr. I've owned the PS5 version for over a year and am still in Act 2..
I know, that is what I was thinking as well 😂😂😂
Me too! 😂
I haven't even started it yet
For pc players: Your flute songs can change the weather. You primary song will calm a storm to a clear sky.
Also the weather changes based on whether you're honorable or not. Full ghost mode and assassination will keep the weather stormy.
@@MiniatureMorpheusSource?
@@skirtsnake8808 I'm pretty sure it's stated if you look hard enough but I also platinum it and beat the dlc on ps. I basically never had sunlight while completely playing as a ghost unless I force it with the flute and it doesn't last long if I again go ghost and refuse standoffs etc. Feel free to test it yourself.
@@skirtsnake8808 you can find it ,mentioned in a Forbes article from way back

I think my favorite armor build was the Ghost Armor, with a series of charms that maximized the terror mechanic, coupled with the fire mechanic. Basically the ghost armor has a baseline % chance to scare enemies away when you kill one of their nearby allies, but there is also a charm that just boosts the % chance mechanic for ANY gear you have. AND, there is also a charm that applies a fear effect % whenever fire is deployed in combat. So between all the stacking mechanics, you have a build that can very easily just panic half the cluster of enemies (effectively "killing" them as they run away and are no longer a target), while you are saved from having to fight 20+ people. It was REALLY fun, a lot of people called it Samurai Batman.
Why not batman ninja lol.
@@mdd4296 i mean batman already operates like a ninja anyway. this is just going back to the source. the main difference is real ninja's wouldn't be doing dumb things like jumping down into a group of 10+ dudes and trying to fight them. But Batman does, and with the right setup, Jin can totally do that too.
Funny how Sucker Punch did the Ubisoft formula better than Ubisoft and didn’t make it feel overwhelming or boring.
Well, it is repetitive, Mort just said it. It feels like a checklist, it's in the video, watch it, and listen.
@@blastard8980 he also said that the atmosphere of the game makes it much more bearable and nicer than the typical checklist. It’s in the video, watch it, and listen. Also the fact that he liked my comment says that he agrees with my statement. Just saying.
only thing they did better was fighting and only cuz it looks better, plays the same, counter, dodge, smash one button.
SP even managed to set a game in Japan and have the main character be an Asian guy....something Ubi couldn't quite figure out how to do do.
@@RipaStar00You clearly didn't play it.
suckerpunch said: fine, ill do assassins creed myself.
and they did just that and brought us evidence, that run of the mill open world can be cool :3
The wind guiding mechanic should be a must in every open world game. Or some form of that. I love when games use some digenic mechanics to immerse and not clutter the hud with useless icons.
@@aryabratsahoo7474 Alongside the fake temporary road signs that appear in Mafia Definitive Edition and the car turn signal way pointing in the Getaway 2.
@aryabratsahoo7474 the yellow birds were perfect as well. Sometimes distracting but never emersion breaking
AC Origins and Odyssey has a better open world than this game though. GOT is super boring outside of the boss fights.
Bro 100% this game before I even finished act 1 wtf. Absolute machine
this is a full time thing for him. It doesn't take too long to finish everything and most things outside story are just filler and not really worth for enjoyments sake, unless you really into that. the beauty of open world will fade after a while and towards the end of game even the combat. This isnt one of those games youll be sinking 100s of hours into and thats fine, its still good at what it does for the short time it offers
it's his job n he loves it, not that hard really
Oh yeah I get that, he obviously plays very differently compared to us. I like to take my time and soak it all in and it low-key looks like I'll be spending more than 100 hrs on this game lol. I've tried legends and find it incredibly fun, I can already see myself putting dozens of hours into that mode alone
and edited a video for YT, i wonder if he uses guides for the 100% even if this his his job (not saying thats something bad) but by doing so (if so) you dont enjoy games i think
@@Knort i did for a couple games i like. Some people like the completionist

Great review. Thank you so much for adding a Steam Deck section to your videos!
Absolutely fantastic game. One of my favorites from the last few years.
Probably also one of the best when it comes to avoiding typical open-world bloat tbh. Yes, there are collectibles but they are 1. not as numerous 2. don't take up a lot of time 3. and the few times they do take longer (shrine climbing sections around cliffs and such), they are actually fun to do.
I experienced the "Hold Button" bug quite a lot through my playthrough. So much so that I had to change my mentality about the main character. I turned it into a Strong Belwas (from A Song of Ice and Fire) simulator: "Strong Belwas they name me in the fighting pits of Meereen. Never did I lose. I let each man cut me once, before I kill him. Count the cuts and you will know how many Strong Belwas has slain." Also, one issue that was particularly vexing to me was the Perfect Dodge and Perfect Parry windows are sometimes modified or non-existent depending on the duel opponent. For example, on the DLC island of Iki, there is a bokken tournament where the final opponent is Sao. If you wear the armor that increases the Perfect Dodge and Perfect Parry window, it breaks the dodge and parry completely, meaning you can't win without cheesing it. Changing to a different armor fixed that, but took me way too long to diagnose that issue.
Great review, as always 🙂 I remember playing GoT for the first time on PS4 right after its release and how it blew me away - the story, the soundtrack, the atmosphere... It doesn't reinvent the wheel with regard to open world design, but it manages to make parts of the collectathon so enjoyable. I'm currently replaying it on PC, and the slow, thoughtful moments (hot springs, haikus) capture me a lot more than during my first playthrough years ago. Really looking forward to finishing the main game and moving on to Iki Island for the first time.
Good review and very fair points. In my initial response I totally forgot about the guiding wind gameplay mechanic. 100% Agree that this is a very lore and gameplay friendly way to guide around the player, without taking that person out of the gameplay. A novel idea and well executed in GoT. Would love to see that (or its equivalent) back in more games.
Very nice in depth review and valuable to me since I've been trying to figure game priority, and this in my list. Lots of relevant gameplay in here, including key-prompts and the mouse-timing prompts (oh. joy.).
And this upload was available in 2160p for me, as well as standard set of lower resolutions. That's...appreciated.
"As this is a PC channel, I pretty much never talk to them."
Feels.
"...prefer to play with a keyboard and mouse" -- with a keyboard ON a mouse, as it turns out.
Nice. Downloading now, ill be listening on theway to work. Have a good holiday Morty they got me working Monday too 😢
Loving this game so far, amazing revuliew for an amazing game!
Its so huge tho you awesome for100%ing it already!
It’s one of the games I really enjoyed playing and getting the platinum trophy was actually fun for me, because I wasn’t ready to leave this world behind. Even the multiplayer is enjoyable and that’s something I rarely like. Not having a radar up at all times and being able to just navigate by visual cues is really underrated in many games. To me, it’s been breathtakingly beautiful on PS4, a typical end-of-generation game.
I wonder how the next AC game will compare. I feel like Suckerpunch managed to beat Ubisoft at their own game and I’m glad to see that happening.
Thanks for the video. You touched on how the world actually feels, which was my pressing curiosity. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
I think your video game reviews are the best reviews one can get. Absolutely awesome 👍
my favorite sony game, absolute banger
Copped the game on Steam right after your review - thanks so much, always!
I’m so happy that are people like you that actually take the time to play the whole game instead of barely getting in the game and just calling it garbage!
As always, thanks for the steam deck portion!
I could listen to Morts reviews 24/7 if I wouldnt feel the urge after a lot of them to play myself. Sometimes i need to stop watchinh Mort to remind myself that my sallary cones from producing music, scoring movies and mastering tracks and not gaming lol.
Mort, youre a true professional and I admire the fire under your a** to set you apart from every other f*****g content creator by 100%ing every game you play while staying as objective as possible. After my musical heroes you immediately come next among people like Toni Kroos, Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Schuhmacher amd the likes. Honestly: Big Respect!
Mort as always you really nailed it with this review! You consistently provide the most in depth review and the way you talk about games and really love games really shine through in these reviews. Appreciate your content and wish all the best for you. You need more subscribers!!!
Also small side note, but there is a lot of small details like when using the bow mechanic in game st certain points for certain slain allies Jin would consistently say a small phrase for those fallen allies. A lot of small things like that really make games like this stand out. Keep up the awesome work!
This is hands down the most amazing looking game I've ever played on PC...or any platform for that matter.
It's worth noting that charm effects stack, so duplicates are actually useful as you can slot them in multiple slots to stack the effect.
Morti.....i really hope you sleep every once in a while bro ^^
Great content as usual :)
Thanks for the review, Mortym. Ghost just went on my wishlist. :D
Great review! I hope your giving Vendir a shot! Nice CRPG coming to Steam at the 30th.
Ive heard so many amazing things about this game. Eagerly waiting to find a job so i can afford a ps5 along with the game. Even after all this time ive avoided spoilers which is crazy to think about tbh.
As always a great vid dude.
Thank you for this review! I did one main quest in Act 2 yesterday and got side tracked by exploring and the side quests lol does the game have flaws? Yes. But it’s freaking beautiful and one of my favorite modern games in the past decade. The game is just incredibly good and a well made pc port to boot
The upshot on the open world seems to be that it doesn't do anything revolutionary, but it does so with an absolute ton of style and flash. That matches really well with my own time with the game back when it first came out. I cleared every map marker, did every sidequest, and enjoyed almost every minute of it. Even the stuff that felt a little repetitive and checkbox-ey was presented in such a cool way that I didn't mind at all.
first and only game i have ever 100% on ps4. had an absolute blast. 11/10 game. i hope they make another like it
One thing I like about this channel is Mortismal always acknowledges he is a content creator and that can influence his view of the game if he’s not careful. For example, noting that performance was affected by the need to record video. Sounds minor, but so many content creator reviewers talk games down if they have issues recording, or the game is too long, or they don’t get a review copy, or the game takes time to get into.
This game looks so awesome. Relieved to hear its a good port at launch since thats a rare occurrence these days lol
Very nice review, thanks.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the story so much. I have yet to play this also since I just only got a ps5. I’ve been looking for something to scratch that way of the Samurai itch and yea that’s the original and so far I’ve never found anything that can compare, just cheap continuations of the series
Nice! Will have to play on pc one day, it's so beautiful. Had to 100% it meself and yes it gets stale if you do everything. Still an amazing game and story, well worth it
I really like the small things this game offered. You can sometimes find boards with signs like flute or bowing plastered on its surface and if you do it, you can get pretty funny moments (like suddenly tens of frogs coming out of the ground). You can also bow to pay respect to any dead civilian you encounter in the wild and Jin will give interesting one liner.
The saving grace for the DLC is that you can pet cats, deers, and monkeys. They’re so freaking adorable! 😂
That was so nice just got my platinum it was soooooo amazing my first 100% game. LOVE IT!
I think it should be noted that the multiplayer was a free addition added months after the original release. In my opinion it added a nice reason to dive back in and check out the game from a different perspective.
I cannot wait to pick this up on PC! Hopefully next Friday.
Great in-depth review. I just got myself a copy on Steam because of it. Just one minor technical flaw of the game - I do know that it was released as a PS4 title, but it is listed on PCGamingWiki as a title that supports adaptive triggers on a PC... Welp I haven't felt any adaptive triggering :D (Steam input off for this game, using DS Edge in wireless mode, no problems with for example Pacific Drive with adaptive triggers). And yes... I gets a bit hectic while switching back to mouse + keyboard for parts with bow and arrows.
This game will scratch the itch in the void left by Nioh for me, I look forward to picking it up. Great review thanks. 🖖😊
Why do I love these videos? I can't figure it out. At this point, I don't care; I'm only morbidly curious.
Fascinating stuff, well-scripted, well-read, excellent editing, I just didn't think I'd like something like this but now I've watched 7 of these videos & I'm compelled to comment. Excellent work. Cheers. 💯
I like that you started adding Steamdeck to your reviews.
How fast this guy 100% games is absolutely insane. I’m convinced he has robots playing for him. Incredible work man, keep it up!
Never ended up getting this (have a pc and ps5). Think I am going to pick it up. Good review.
The online mode is pretty cool especially as you progress to a higher level and more expanded moveset. The scope is limited, but there's a good bit of co-op nuance to beating some of the more difficult challenges. Once you beat the single player, there isn't much to do, but the multiplayer definitely continues to scratch that samurai itch. Does a good job of extending the game for a few weeks imo without being a huge unnecessary grind.
I also did 100% for the base game and encountered the same problems as you. For the camera, in my case, setting the FOV to +25 (the maximum value) in the graphics menu solved most of it. Would recommend anyone playing this game to look at this option.
scarily enough are about to be THREE AAA open world jidaigeki (medieval-era Japan) games out at the same time: Ghost of Tsushima, Rise of the Ronin, and (soon) Assassin's Creed: Shadows. it's either a feast or a famine.
You should try to get in contact with either a PR person or Sony PR themselves given they recently stated that they are going to place a much higher emphasis on supporting the PC going forward. Your reviews are fantastic and will definitely show said PR people who they'd be working with. I say this because I got a PS5 earlier in the year for FF7Rebirth & given my PC is in that awkward stage where to upgrade it is to replace the mobo & everything else basically, due to finances I just picked up a PS5. As such, i'm now looking into what I can use the PS5 for now that i'm done with FF7 & Bloodborne, the only two playstation things I knew I wanted to play - even if this is the PC review, it sold me on picking up the PS5 directors cut :P TL;DR - Good review, I'll pick it up when i'm done with Demons Souls :P
I'm probably going to get this one. It seems right up my alley.
Amazing game. Oh, and that button bug on the standoff was something that could happen sometimes on PS5 as i experienced it a few times on that platform myself. So that's not a PC port problem but a bug in the game in general they never quite fixed.
Yep. I got the bug a few times toward the end of my PS5 playthrough. Am getting it nonstop on PC though.
I'm adoring this game tbh. I rarely play Assassins Creed-like games unless they really grip me like The Saboteur or Tsushima
This was an aesthetic masterpiece when I played it years ago on PS4. Making use of the power of the PS5 and now PC is just a bonus. That's probably the reason it has such strong Steam Deck performance.
One of the only games that I ever platinumed. Partly because it looked great, the vibe and atmosphere, with the gameplay loop kept me hooked, but also, it came out during lockdown....
One of my favorite games of all time.
Just hit 90 hours and completed all the base game achievements. Starting up New Game + now. I played it originally on the ps4 back when it released but man it’s like an entirety new experience on pc….i forgot a lot of the story too, really hit hard this time. Game of the year for me, no question. Top 5 games of all time.
I've also 100%'ed everything in the PC version (on lethal) except for the multiplayer.
Was fun to do it again since I haven't played / 100%ed it since the PS4 version.
Story is great but I still think it rushes the use of "honor". Jin Sakai changes his entire lifestyle (which is a HUGE deal for the kind of samurai this game chooses to use) in literally a day lol. There's other things too but still.... Like I said overall a great story but still.
I can relate.. played on ps4 back in the day and now on the PC.
It’s as solid game, the world is beautiful (side content is a bit repetitive), the story has some flaws but overall a recommend experience for everyone.
Yeah it's the farcry 3 issue many games have.
This game's release date is coincidentally timed perfectly with the end of the TV show Shogun.
Samurai doing cool samurai shit. GIMME
I am very satisfied with the port.
Even my older machine runs this thing rock soild.
Quest design is a bit... ubi soft style. Combat is amazing, the world is pretty af and the commitment to the samurai theme is deep.
Yeah this is a good one
I have the standoff bug as well and what helps me is to not press anything for like first 5 seconds. When I do that the standoff works as intended.
I COMPLETELY agree with your takeaway/conclusion.
Unsure which to get. This or Nioh. Especially since I prefer keyboard and mouse. So games geared towards gamepad and bad key mapping settings are relatively low on my personal preference. Glad to see this game seems to be a quote good port and playable nicely on kb+m.
I appreciate your videos a lot. Thank you. Sooner or later I will get it.
Glad people on pc get to enjoy this absolutely fantastic game. I double dipped and grabbed it for pc after playing it on ps4/ps5. Hope everyone enjoys this before we get the Ubisoft abomination drops.
The gulf in quality will be extremely apparent when red arrives in November. Especially since this is 4 years old now.
12 hours in and haven't had a single crash, bug or glitch. Runs extremely well too, average about 110 fps on very high graphics, on a 1440p ultrawide monitor, 4070ti and ryzen 7 58003d. Very very impressed with this port.
Great game, bought it for PS4 back then, heck I bought my PS4 for that game! Now I'm enjoying it on PC, it's a really great game and the timing is perfect now that Shogun has finished its first season (not sure if there will be more), people are all up for a good Samurai game.
I'm on an unexpected vacation with nothing to do so I've been playing 14 hours a day since release and I still haven't even finished Iki much less started Legends mode. Or done the entire new game + playthrough achievement. My point being how on earth have you already 100%ed it? That's some kind of weird mundane superpower!
I actually came in a bit over the average for 100% on this, so I wouldnt say my time here is anything out of the ordinary really, especially since I do this for a living.
Ive run into the stand off bug. It can be fixed by toggling the hold button setting in accessibility. Not sure what it's called but the Internet gave me the fix
Although I get the use of keyboard and mouse I would suggest playing with a dual sense remote at some point too, this utilizes a lot of the controller features which can really enhance the experience
Well, after watching video I honestly will try Ghost of Tsuhima. Got it for a while on PS plus, but Im still into FF7 Rebirth for some time. That PC release can give some "second wind" not only on PC then.
Legends multiplayer is a phenomenal time if you can get a regular bunch of pals together. Good variety of game modes too. The raids are an excellent co-op challenge.
Is there any benefits for a person who doesn’t have friends to play it with? Maybe unlocks and rewards? Is it enjoyable even with randoms?
Only game to this day I got the platinum. Loved it
One of the greatest games ever made. I have the platinum on ps4 and ps5 if I had a PC I probably would do it again.
I bought the Director's Cut on sale for PS5 a while ago, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. But after watching your review, I am quite looking forward to it. As for the repetitiveness, it can't be any more repetitive than AC Odyssey, and I Platinum'd that game over 300 hours.
This game became a top 5 game ever made for me because it’s basically the heir to bushido blade and Tenchu rolled into one.
I loved the wind direction mechanic and i wish every game had them from now one since i hate giant hud on my screen. I loved exploring the map and appreciating the visuals without giant map and 50 markers 24/7 on my screen. Only things i really hated was how limited and hand holdy the grappling hook was with almost no free movement like Uncharted or Star Wars, also i wish more side quests had bigger and varied rewards like the main missions cause i didn't really care about the legend rank ups since i already had all the stuff i wanted by the end of act 1.
The Standoff mechanic bug, where it doesn't see your button press, is not a problem on Xbox Controllers, ironically.
I was using my PS5 controller and it was about a 50% chance to not be able to use the mechanic, so I was avoiding it. Then I tried with my Xbox controller as a friend had mentioned he never had that bug. I haven't seen the bug since.
I had it happen with Xbox controller. Changing the accessibility option to press instead of hold fixed it for me
I was able to get around the stand-off bug by just hitting escape to open the main menu and closing it again (occasionally also alt-tabbing out of and into the game again when main menu was open).
The best open world checklist game I've ever played. It's so atmospheric and that makes a game very much better. Seriously, atmosphere adds SO much to a video game.
My favorite is AC Origins, but this is really close!
That Standoff bug is pretty common. Hitting Alt+Enter twice to go into window mode and back to borderless mode fixes it.
This was such a beautiful world. The stances made combat enthralling. Yes, you can batter “triangle” or “Y”, and hulk your way to victory, but the real skill is playing in your broken armour and slaying 5/6 guys perfectly. Japan is beautiful.
good job!
Mortismal is the GOAT. I’m still in Act 1, and I feel like Jin will no longer be a samurai by the end but a shinibi instead.
Been playing solely on the deck and it runs beautifully, though the deck does get extremely hot. Agree with your verdict that this is a standard open world checklist game with an incredibly beautiful and fresh coat of paint. However, the underlying system is repetitive and gets tired after a while. In some ways it reminds me a lot of AC:Odyssey, which is the last of such games I played and which I never finished. I played a lot of it when the PC version released and am halfway through Act 2. But I've definitely developed fatigue and am putting it down in favour of other games like Eiyuden Chronicle. I imagine I'll return to it when I have a samurai itch to scratch again. But it's the kind of game that for me is very easy to burn out from.
Just finished the game, except the Iki Island, but I agree 99% with what you are saying, the 1% is that I'm having mixed feelings if this game was worth the price of 60 Euros, considering that it's a PC port, like you just said no groundbreaking game-play, I mean it sometimes felt like regurgitated AC mechanics, and I can also add some clunky interactions in combat, small character interactions felt like AC Origins which felt without substance, and others. At the beginning, in the first zone I feel in love with the game after the Tengu Demon duel, I mean like everything about that was cool and challenging, but later down the road it felt more and more easy and repetitive, so much so that I felt that I wanted it to end, but because the story was so good it kept me going. My advice, play it for the story, don't think too much about the game-play. I usually play the games at the hardest difficulty, but Lethal felt wrong in multiple ways, so I went with Hard and was challenging for at least 30% of my play time but that was it.
I barley 100% games but this is one of the precious few back when it came out for the ps4 I had a blast with it, as some say this is the best Assassins creed type game that came out^^
i found that the Standoff bug is related to the Framerate, once i locked my fps to 100 instead of letting it run into 200+ it became more stable, making it almost not bugged at all after locking it
Could you maybe do a like “Day in the Life” video? I am curious how you balance completing so many games and how you organize your days to stay on track
Ive talked about it in a few places, most recently my 300k subs video
@@MortismalGaming sick I’ll check it out, thanks 🙏🏻
The legends mode came out as DLC with the actual main game story expansion.
wil you still cover the wotr dlc? Owlcat just reveled the last batch of the new archetype and (from what i understand) flc devil update.
Yeah
can you do all stealth or what?
So you did not face any audio issues in Iki Island? I.e. sound effects (including menu sound effects) cutting around intermittently at large settlements.
No
Thinking about double dipping to play it on the go…even having beaten it on PS5
As a gamer who`s git the Platinum, I totally agree with you about the repetitive feature of the game. Getting the platinum was a bit strong, but I deem it valued the effort
Are people interested in the steam deck chapter out of curiosity? I'm a British subscriber and can't say I've ever spoke with anyone who owns one or even seen them for sale in shops. Would also love a quick note on 100% completion time, just as bang for your buck rough guide
Oh yeah, people specifically ask me about steam deck stuff all the time, I wouldnt spend the time on it if it didnt justify its time
@@MortismalGaming thanks for your reply buddy, was a genuine question out of curiosity. Makes sense now as obviously time is precious and would be justified. Thanks again, love the channel
Finished this game last night and was thoroughly impressed. Great story that was predictable in many ways, but it still felt fantastic. For those who have a dualsense controller, it works wonderfully on PC. It took me 10-15 minutes at the end of the game to make my final choice as both felt compelling.
I played it when it came out and was surprised on how much I enjoyed it… I literally expected the same old open world nonsense, I am probably in the minority but I do enjoy a decent amount of open world games but I usually tap out 75-80% of the way because of being a father that games... and there’s usually a new game that I want to play that comes out. It was a good length, didn’t over stay its welcome to me. Glad you enjoyed it as much as you did.
