  • Iconic locations have been photographed thousands, if not millions of times before. Still, I think there are very good reasons why we should go and try to capture them ourselves, even the cliché photos!

    So true! Half of the reason for going out to do photography is being in a place and experiencing it for yourself. Such a beautiful location and that set of stairs going down to the beach was awesome. Have a great week!

    Lovely. Famous for the painters who came here also. I was there and it is beautiful. Fine food also.

    I know this place very well since i'm from Normandy and I lived not far from Etretat. I love mornings here but as soon as the harsh sun hits the cliffs, it is game over, the contrast makes it very hard because of the spots of light on the white cliffs. Cloudy days are the best here, at least to my taste. I never had the chance to have water pools on the pebbles beach. Great work ! Unfortunately, from this side of the beach, it is the only spot that shows separition between the arch (porte d'aval) and the needle (aiguille creuse) but under the arch the cliff behind starts to appear, but it is what it is :)
    And i agree with you, it is very hard to find original compositions, and if a composition is famous, it is for a godd reason, why wouldn,'t you take it too ?As long as you have fun and you like it, that's what matter. Take what you want.
    French police and photographers in their car... I don't know how many stories I heard but don't worry, you're not the only one...

    I don't know if you've ever tried looking at your black and white photos in black and white. But it's way better than just black and white.

    Couldn't agree more about capturing a photo even if it's a cliché. Each exposure adds to our knowledge and builds upon our body of work. Who cares if somebody has done it before.
    Besides, perhaps your framing or focus is different in one minor way that vastly improves on prior work.

    Hey, welcome in my country My friend ! (Etretat is pronounced without the last t)
    Normandie is indeed a marvelous place. And yes, it definitely looks like an "Adrian's photo". Who cares of the famous places, and clichés, the important are the emotions carried by the photo (or whatever the medium actually).
    Can't wait to see more of your take on the French landscape
    Cheers !

      Thank you, Calie! Unfortunately I only got to spend a few days in France this time around, but I did have a wonderful day of photography at Pornic in the Bretagne. So beautiful! That will be the next video. I had been to Normandie before, but didn't make it that far north. I think Mont Saint-Michel was as far as I got back in 2018. Always a pleasure to photograph the french landscape. Next year I hope to explore the French side of the Alps, a region I had not visited yet. Thank you again!

    Very true analysis. I always try to put my own dash of creativity when I visit and photograph iconic locations. Btw, love that last image you took, very nicely balanced composition, with crisp contrast and nice light. 👌

    You should come where I live in La Hague, look a the « nez de jobourg » it’s not really known it’s fantastic. You also have the dunes of biville 😊
    It’s not really far from here

      Oh, thank you, Clément! I'll add it to my evergrowing list of places to visit, next time I'm around (I was relatively close this time) I'll stop and check them out. Thanks again!

    Hey Adrian, thanks so much for another great photo story. I’m reviving my film photography interest and I’m getting great inspiration from your discussions about our internal thoughts and feelings about the craft. As well, your pictures are fantastic. 👍🏻👋🏼

    I think you forgot one iconic location, our national mountain Stetind of Nordland. Peder Balke loved to paint Stetind! By the way, king Ludvig Filip of France loved Peder Balke, and the paintings he bought of him you can see at L'aile Rohan in the Louvre in Paris. But I don't know if Stetind is there?

    • @aows
      @aows  Před rokem +1

      Very true! I only found out about that mountain when I was far away. This is what happens when you don't do proper research 😅 I took a ferry from Lofoten to mainland and bypassed that mountain somehow. I knew I should have driven that section of the road!

    • @bioliv1
      @bioliv1 Před rokem

      @@aows I remember I read a black&white photographer has a constant video surveillance of Stetind, so that when he thinks the mountain has the perfect combination of snow and rock, he buys an airplane ticket, to go there photographing it.
      Anyway, hope you come back to Nordland some day. And as I said, I advice you to contact Olemartin Evensen ahead.

    It does not look like f/1.4 shoots, but f/11. Even ar f/2 none of my lenses are that sharp. Great episode and epic photos !

    • @aows
      @aows  Před rokem +1

      They are pretty sharp lenses! I'm very happy with them. Even though they improve a bit at smaller apertures, I like the way they look wide open. The only noticeable thing that gets me in trouble at 1.4 is the vignetting but it's fixable to a point. Thanks for watching!

    if you had to choose only one prime lens to take with you for your photography which one would it be? More interested in the focal length than the specifics of a lens.

    Oh, if I knew you were coming there, I'd have come buy you a coffee! Nice place. Pronounce it without the "t" sound at the end. :) [edit] you'd have been 2h late, you most likely not had a ticket neither :)

    • @aows
      @aows  Před rokem

      Hehe, thanks for the hint! I feel bad because I didn't speak any of the languages of the countries I visited on this trip. I should definitely learn the basics of French, since it's right next door and I always go through there (mainly because I have to coming from Spain!) to go anywhere else in Europe. It's good to know about the ticket haha :)
