Book layout for a photo book is an art unto itself. One viewer sent in one of the most perfect examples I've seen for the way a book should be done including the pacing of the photographs within.

I come to learn and see photographers that are far advanced from my skill set. I am just a hobby photographer. As long as it continues being fun, I'll continue to shoot.
Good beard! I’m 85 years old and have NEVER been able to grow a complete and full beard like yours! Well done. Of course that goes along with the great videos and info you produce. Thanks Ted.
Oh wow, Ted no wonder you and your channel are so much liked and appreciated in the Photography world! Its fascinating to see all the talented and creative Photographers that send you their work. Great idea and challenge to select an item an make a series of portraits of it too. Thank you Ted for loving Photography so much and for always inspire us all to grow and do better in our craft.
I love this series as I am continuing to get ideas on how to lay out my first zine🙏🏼
I love these videos where you critique photo books/zines. Thanks Ted!
I really enjoyed these book/photo reviews. The photographers should be proud of the work they have done. That beard fits you although I don't know how much you'll like it once that Texas heat start cranking up again.
10:29 So cool seeing a Perth Australian photographer get featured on your page for photos of a bridge that I drive over almost daily!
From one beard brother to another, I love the beard. It’s interesting to see how people play with the different spreads. I personally love full spreads because I want the full impact of the photo. But I also enjoyed how the white space draws the viewer’s eye to the image. Reminds me of a matted frame and gives me something to think about on future projects.
Hi Ted, I just want to say a huge thanks for showing my FORM AND FUNCTION magazine on your latest CZcams video and the kind words you had for it. I hold your channel in the highest of esteem for your knowledge, presentation and top-shelf professionalism and to be featured in even the smallest portion of it makes for a deeply proud moment for me. Cheers mate. 🙏🏼👍🏼
Sincere emotions
Hi Your book has also inspired me to do more with my own photographs following a recent visit to Tenerife where I found lots of angular modern architecture. I had one film camera and 3 rolls of Fomapan 100 and quickly became obsessed with all the modern zig-zags presented to me. Hopefully, I will get the images into coherent, printable form soon and maybe Ted will do a critique on it?
@@chromagraphphotoart It will be interesting to see it
how did you make your book?
The beard is working. Gives you that "wise elder" look, and based on your output, that's a title you deserve!
Ted, many thanks for yet another inspiring video. Admire your endeavours as you are great at cultivating an inspired community of us photographic souls 🙏
I love these videos. I love seeing burgeoning artists work, I love the respectful critiques you do, I love hearing and learning more about the art of photography, rather than the mechanics or gear.
Another great video , fabulous work by your audience , I love the form and function layout it really challenged my perception and how I usually like to see work presented in books , very well done
Hey Perth, Western Australia! Let's go Lino!!
Great episode, Ted. I really like that your suggestions for improvement are mostly related to the printing/book design (an area I believe most modern photographers have very little experience in), while you limit your input on the photography to what the photographer is doing well.
You've struck a very nice balance in how to offer unsolicited critiques
Love these collections, thanks for sharing, Ted and your invaluable advice
This series is very helpful, thank you for putting up these great sessions.
What a fantastic mixture of different approaches to photography! I really like that you give sugestions for improvements, for me it is a great way to value the work of the creators and a gift. And I thought I have bought enough books this year...😀
This was an awesome video, thanks so much. Working on a photo book of my own and your comments on white space and reserving full bleeds for only a few important shots really resonated with me. Would love to see more of these kinds of videos in the future. Was expecting a “tutorial” from the title but i much prefer this style actually, as there’s no one way to do it and you highlight the modern vs traditional approaches
These are so pleasant to watch
Thanks Ted. I have only recently found your channel and I ĺove it. I love the positive vibe of the channel and I have been blown away by how you welcome and promote developing photograhers. Fantastic stuff. Keep up the great work. Cheers, Peter
Excellent critique video. Thanks for sharing such talented works!
Happy Birthday, Ted! And happy thanksgiving as well!
Thanks Jeff. And Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
Great series with great ideas for books! Thanks
This gave me some great ideas for my next project! Thank you!
You should definitely keep the beard. It looks really good. Thank you for the tips on the book making. Having a book and my photos in an art gallery are 2 dreams that I hope to accomplish someday.
so beautiful!
I love your book reviews and critique and your awesome beard. Have a nice day.
I just got an used D850, and this video gave me a ton of ideas.... Thanks
Hey Ted, Enjoyed your presentation (as always). However, based on the title, I expected it to be more of a “how to”, not your usual discussion of books submitted by viewers… Soooo, how about doing a session that does fit this title? I for one would find it most useful as I am trying to put together a book (or a zine?) myself. I need some info on basics such as: Book or zine? Number of pages. Which binding? Paper choice? Layout considerations. Etc. Thanks.
Hey Ted, Richard is right on here! I what a long video or maybe series on how to make a book, Zine, etc.... One video on the mechanics of finding the right on line services, styles, Zine vs. Book, etc... and then one the process of layout and design.
This is exactly why I clicked on this video. I thought I was going to see suggestions on how to. Book manufacturers, what to look for, how to prepare, etc.. How to avoid losing info in the blacks. Getting an artist copy is only good if you know your printer will use the same printer for the next or all runs. The bigger the company, the less chance of this being the case.
Yes, exactly what I was thinking too.
Yes, a how-to would be great.😊
Spot on Richard. And none of the links work. Seems to become very self-serving rather than helpful. Shame.
I love this series so much but I also gotta say, Ted, you owe me like $500 bucks. I keep adding featured books to a photobook wish list and it's getting expensive to keep buying these amazing works of art.
Jokes aside, as someone who truly loves photography and looking at other peoples photos, this series has given me the inspiration to seek out photo books from literally anyone. I only looked at Adam Ansel or some photographers on YT but never sought out other peoples work. I spent hours looking through Esty zines and adding them to the Wishlist which I can't wait to start going through and purchasing. I also realized in this process that zines are a great way to share work. Far less pressure of perfection than a full book, far more free in terms of content and expectations and they are usually fairly cheap. Some are hand made by the photographer which adds a very personal connection to the work.
Thanks for continuing to do this awesome series! Can't wait to send you a book (or zine) of my own.
...PERFECT...Photography Book _Thank you very much, Ted_
Love the bread!! Keep it!
You know Ted, I really don't watch enough of this type of video as it is much more inspiring than the usual kind of thing you get on YT. Not that there is anything wrong with gear reviews and on-location Vlogs, heck I do that sort of thing myself!. That last book resonated with me more than the others as I recently took a holiday with my partner to Tenerife and in addition to my digital camera, took a Nikon FE and three rolls of Fomapan 100. That film seemed to suit the angularity of the modern hotels predominant in Tenerife and the very contrasty light I found there. On return and developing the film, I found I had a small, but coherent body of work, just crying out for publication. So, perhaps a Zine as maybe there is not enough for a whole book? Thanks anyway and maybe my Zine will be being critiqued on your channel one day.
this is great! looking at other photographers and their review
Fab show and love the beard too!
I thought this was going to be about making a book! That’s what interested me.
More like this please Ted.
This critique series is very helpful. Thanks. Since you asked, I do like the beard - I wish my wife would let me grow one.
Great video Ted…..now that I live in FW, your my local favorite on here…. Be Well and have a great Thanksgiving….a bit gloomy in FW today….but hey…
Inspiring 🙏
Great video, Ted! I hope to put together a photo book over the next 6 months. I'm not sure of a correct amount of pictures to be included or pricing. Somehow I believe the printing price for the volume of work will steer me to a correct cutoff. I shoot what catches my eye from a variety of focal lengths. I'll jot down ideas and have worked them on a weekly rotation. I have 3 years worth of work.
How does one send you a copy when it's printed? Please let me know by June 2023. Thanks!
Ted, I have been a subscriber for several years - thank you for continuing to challenge us. Question - Would you consider saying something about how books you describe were created? I understand that some books may be hand made by the author, others printed by local print shops, or others by online services. Just a sentence about how the book was made would be helpful.
Love your beard.
Fantastic Ted, many thanks, sterling work! (And I guess nobody cares whether it's with or without the beard.) Keep it up!
Amazing
Inspiring
You wanna see a lovely stylish layout, pls look at Brooklyn Beckham’s book.
Hi Ted. Your YT channel is amazing. I have one question. Would it be possible to inform wich companies produce the different books in your book rewieves?
yes Ted, first you mentioned it, Nice beard, and a nice video
Beard is Great but you need a hair cut, hey you asked 😁Keep up the good work, love your channel! Love, love, love the non-camera review content! I understand the economics of CZcams and camera reviews are necessary but keep doing this kind of content as well. In Tokyo and now definitely planning a travel Zine to commemorate this first trip after Japan opened from Covid. Now I'm thinking about how to do full bleed images that works and makes Ted say he likes it!
This series has changed the way I look at Instagram Carousels 👀😁
Good beard! 10/10
Great video and I’m not even half way 👍🏽
I would like to make a photo-zine, but my photos aren't so coherent. Mostly, I shoot what I see and don't go out with a purpose. But more and more I think I should give purpose so at the end there is a story.
Ooh Em Gee!
Nice photo book reviews!
Any recommendations for photo book printers?
Ole Rocks I can highly reccoment the book + his two other ones!
Full disclosure I share a studiospace with him :)
Kertész rules!
Definately Ralph Gibson influence...
Hello, I need some suggestions regarding bookmaking. I made the awful mistake of going with book baby, and my book came back looking like an Iphoto book :( I want my book to be as large as 11x14 with thick pages. All images were shot in black and white. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, Ted. Thank you.
I'm very much a newbe. Where does one publish a quality photobook?
Keep the beard Ted!
👍👍👍
#notificationgang!!
Great books 👍
Keep the beard short😂
