- We gather in the grand salon to open some truly wonderful gifts, one of which is a garden statue...
In 'Cadeaux at the Chateau', all of the inhabitants of the Chateau de Lalande gather together to open beautiful gifts that people have sent from all over the world. All of the monetisation from these videos will be donated to a different charity each month. CZcams earnings fluctuate wildly each month, as ad revenue changes throughout the year. Here are the charities that we've donated to so far:
July 2020:
British Heart Foundation UK (in memory of my father) €634

Alzheimer's Research UK (in memory of all of the residents of my parents' nursing homes) €350

Prostate Cancer Foundation (in memory of Selmar's father) €1255

I used to show the gifts as part of 'The Chateau Diaries' episodes, but you're all so very generous that we have many gifts, and if we spent the episodes opening them, we wouldn't be able to show you other aspects of chateau life! So, for those of you who enjoy watching presents being opened, and as a way to thank those of you who were kind enough to send them, I've made this new channel. Every week we will film your beautiful gifts whilst enjoying afternoon tea or aperitif together.
It is very important to me that you know that we in no way expect anyone to send us gifts. I would like to go further than that and add that, if doing so will put you in any financial difficulty whatsoever, please, please do not send us anything. Knowing that you join us by watching @The Chateau Diaries gives us all an enormous boost. But for those of you who have sent these incredibly thoughtful gifts, I hope that seeing us open them gives you a fraction of the joy that you've given us, and that by monetising this channel for charity we can pass on that joy to others 💖💖💖

The koa wood frame is stunning. I don’t think I even knew there was such a thing as “tiger koa” but I guess it makes sense, as it’s about the growth pattern of the wood. It must be extremely rare. That is an exceptional piece. Just... wow.

the rings you could thread the ends of a scarf through and use them to secure scarves. the terracotta statue you would have to protect outside as if rain gets in the well where a plant pot would sit it may freeze over winter and thus expand and crack the head. if you filled the cavity wity some cement that may work well to protect
The rings are too heavy. They are solid crystal, heavy like a rock.

funny enough I had made myself a BLEU ROYAL gin minutes before they started looking at that book and yes Bleu royal gin is the colour changing gin from Quebec, and my favourite.

That statue if concret must be sealed for cold weather. If it absorbs water, then freezes it will burst open or crack. FYI

Hello Cara, 🙋♀️it’s nice to see another Canadian at Lalande. There have been a few Canadians lately visiting and volunteering at Lalande. Newfoundland is so far away very remote and beautiful. Never lived there but I have lived in Nova Scotia and I have visited Prince Edward Island which is so beautiful. Maybe one day I will visit Lalande with my family.Enjoy Laland for us Canadians. The perfume was Chanel’s Bois Des Îles. £169.00 for a 75ml bottle in the uk. I’m running low on my Gabrielle (purchased duty free on Brittany ferries!) so usually like to interchange between No. 5 and a lighter parfum so looked into going to find a tester but for that price I don’t think I will.
I am not sure if Stepanie is cleaning out & organizing "stuff" fast enough to keep up with all the things that arrive every day to replace it. Fun to watch it come and go through.
I wonder that myself, so much stuff, attic must be getting full again.
We live! Therfore we have stuff!
@Eric Lewis I'm a bit of a "Categorizer" so to speak, and one day after seeing a lot of comments of the things accumulating at LaLande, it got me curious and thinking. So I wrote down every item received in one vlog, and categorized them. And after that I kind of loosely categorize each vlog. And the great news is, most items don't actually stay with Stephanie at the Chateau! Around half is "Consumables" ie: foods/treats/sauces/jams/cooking supplies etc. These are so nice to use for the bed n breakfast and at parties etc.
And then in the other half, a third of the gifts are for specific people such as Delmar, Marie, Philip etc. And while they are long term volunteers, they will leave eventually and so will their gifts. Also Mummy gets a fair bit of seeds, also consumable.
Another third of that second 50% is gifts to LaLande in general and everyone chooses items, such as sweaters, jewelry, etc, and once again those items either leave quickly with short term volunteers or eventually with long term volunteers. Stephanie does keep items in this category so those will live at LaLande, but she is only getting one or possibly two items from the whole gift.
The last third is for Stephanie personally, and The Chateau. Fabric, art, nic naca, china, lampshades, etc etc. And those are the items that she has to sort through and make long-term decisions about.
Anyway, it was just interesting to me to see how many gifts were in each category and to discover the surprising result that less then a fourth of all gifts received will stay at the Chateau. So, not as much clutter as one might expect! 🙂😊🙂

The jewelry was so lovely, and a wonderful gift. I was enjoying the rings and was wishing I was there. The rings were a bit small so it seemed and I used to wear a size 3 when I got married * many years ago* and now I wear a size 4 1/2 and sometimes size 5. Was thinking I wondered how they would have maybe had fit me? I have tiny fingers evidently but wish everything else was super tiny too. With rings, you cannot always get them for the ring finger in my size! That can be a problem. Usually, they begin with size 6. So I wear them on my pointer finger but find even then I have them swirling around.

I sent the rings. (Actually the entire box) the ring is a Swarovski number 52 which relates to a size 6, kind of. I have small fingers like you. I wore them on my middle finger.

Your new statue reminds me of the Green Man and would look wonderful with a plant such as ivy planted inside so that it could add to his hair. He would look stunning at the entrance to the forest. There is a tremendous amount of work in that beautiful book. I have many stills where I've stopped the vlog so I could keep something beautiful. But to have so many stills -- how did she do it? Isn't that book made with an online program? Can't we know more? Maybe Stephanie could interview the creator by zoom so she could tell us how she made it? How she kept track of the images?
Hi there Ntakovac. I made the book using an online program. I've made many books like this, including ones about my family's ancestry, and I love doing it. I actually collected over 600 screenshots for this project and picked the best ones. It takes a lot of patience to get just the right freeze-frame. Some images were from Stephanie and Marie's Instagram account. I made sure to credit them and everyone behind the camera...They took the actual footage. I just edited. I also used to be a freelance photographer, which helped when framing a screenshot. Also, I will be at Lalande in September for my birthday, and I hope to make a book of my own photos for Stephanie's library. I think it's important to capture this moment of history at Lalande in paper format.

I'm DEBBIE, 60 years old, a crafty lady as well, the reason why I got hooked, especially with all the things you do at the Chateau. And my three children know so well how I'm dreaming to visit your place in the near future .. to volunteer because I'm pretty good with my hands too! If it is terra cotta, do not leave it outside in the winter.
It depends if it’s designed to resist frost. I’ve had various similar types of terracotta pots outside in the uk all winter for years and no problems. Some a bit more delicate were not so robust.
