      Tal mentions that he didnt know what DID was/is real for people and literally couldnt even name the movie, showing he really didnt know much, this was him looking into a documentary so this was his "research" in case anyone claims that he should have done research before. Tbh the documentary structured the video pretty poorly so any question/statement he said was from what they had said. Like around 10 minutes in she says that she didnt understand what Tal was saying but he was referring to the quote "if I was a boy, this trauma wouldnt have happened to me" which Tal didnt understand at the time because the documentary STILL hadn't explained how DID forms and when it does explain it finally Tal criticizes it, not the reason it forms, it being the poor explanation they give in the documentary.

    My system actually has a wolf alter. He doesn’t have a name, but he was created because when bad stuff was happening to us when we were little, we felt that if we were a wolf we would’ve been able to fight back. He can’t actually speak, but he has human intelligence and sort of communicates through feelings and ideas.

    If it helps , split was the reason I found you guys and how I became educated on DID . So I think while split definitely provides misconceptions, I do think it challenged people to really find out what DID is , how serious the stigma's are and how we as a human community should be supporting those with disorders. More so, response videos such as this one are very helpful in educating people. While I can't even imagine how frustrating it is for you to have to do this , I ultimately think it will result in more positivity than negativity . System of 17 here and at first I thought this was going to be a bunch of bad stereotypes. It seems like he has only been educated through movies like split and is asking some genuine questions. Being confused about it might be a good thing because it says he's thinking about it and trying to figure it out and make sense of it. Honestly when I figured out that it was alters in my head and that my inner dialogue might be different from others I asked if I could have schizophrenia or something else that doesn't seem like science fiction to others even though I am going for my masters degree in mental health, trauma, PTSD/human services, 4th year out of 6, I was in denial everyday because of what other people might think. I know. But the thing is, there are thousandssss of Tals. He doesn't use the vocabulary our community does in everyday language! His brain conditioning type exists, and IS the norm, so two positives we can take are 1) DID awareness is getting out there 2) even the ignorant and uneducated are changing in some ways. Even if it's smallllllll.
      He was very different toward the end of the video, and that's what I'm focusing on. Because I know everything in the first half is going to still be there, captured on camera or not, you know? Hollywood left a real big mess we have to clean up, seems neverending, but we have to see what we're working with. Hope that makes sense.
      We're dealing with every level of intelligence ever, every socioeconomic background ever, every demographic ever, and we all want the same goal of destigmatizing DID. It's going to be hard, but I'm so proud of Jess for taking it for what it is. We know very well despite those who change slowly or never do, behind them are those being serious about researching something new to them. We have more allies on our side than before.

    Honestly, it is a fact that people like this exist. people who don't do any research but blindly ask questions to people who are informed to become informed themselves. I think it mostly comes from a lack of knowledge of where to begin. It is a disorder that is more widely covered now, but many people are still in the dark about its existence and how it works, and have no idea where to even begin to research this topic. Not everyone has the time or patience to pour hours into reading and studying. Many other people would have just gotten offended and refused to answer his questions, but you politely answered them all,despite his(I believe accidentally) uninformed and sometimes offensive questions. This is how you beat a stigma, you take the time to answer all the questions, even the ones you dislike or disapprove of. You include everyone in the discussion, because now this video has been made, he may become much more informed, and change the way he sees people with DID. Keep up the great work!

      @@KellyanneKashaS the subconscious mind is powerful. This is something that I picked up in that "Split" film when the psychologist talked about how each alter has certain characteristics and even illnesses.
      For example; the host might have been stung by a bee and is allergic to bees so the body begins to flare up with an allergic reaction. When the first alter comes through, the body begins healing itself, as this alter does not believe they were stung by a bee, only the host.
      The body and mind are truly connected and the body responds to the perspective of the mind.

I don't have DID and am just learning a lot about it from your channel, but I was really taken aback by the "she thinks she has [x]..." or "she says [y] is the case..." type of characterization. Ok. I haven't seen the Tal video until now, but the part in the very beginning when he says, "I don't know why she would want them," really bothered me. Jess, you are such a good sport and such a strong person.
    I do NOT have DID; however, I have studied it for a very long time and have always been intrigued and understanding of it. I understand that the Alters are a result of horrible childhood trauma, and although I cannot empathize with what it's like to have DID, I DO know what it's like to experience childhood trauma on many levels. Fortunately, my younger brother was a very strong male model and mature for his age, and I believe if it weren't for him, I would be in a much worse place, emotionally, than I am today.
    I think you, Jess, are incredible, beautiful, and strong, and the fact you are able to react to this video with such poise and grace is very inspiring to me. If someone were making a video response to me "wanting type one diabetes" I would go apeshit.

    In Tal´s defense his channel is called "Reaction time" he reacts to things for the first time, he doesn't know the correct terms to refer to things and I also got a little upset with some things but in the end he came around. I think he thought it would be more of a goodie topic but realized that it was real an to not make fun of it. He has more serious videos about rare diseases and I think this was the first one he did on mental health. • @rix6831
    @rix6831 Před 5 lety +2

    I see a lot of people saying that he was "just" ignorant (not malicious), and while I agree with you, the issue is bigger than that. He's not just a rando, he's an influencer with an audience. He has an authority, his fans listen to what he says, and most of the time they're not going to look INTO it. He's responsible for how he represents real, living people, because he's who will dictate the opinion of many people who wouldn't even know about DID otherwise. Instead, he's diluting the understanding of it even further, conflating it with a dozen of different conditions and identities and basically just generating more confusion and prejudice as a result. It wouldn't be a big deal if he was just some guy asking questions and expressing his confusion, but he's not just a random dude. He has an authority. And, as you know. Great power means great responsibility.
    It's nice that he's willing to learn though, so points for that.

    It’s also like the idea that he thinks that you’re the “original” or like the “real” person and the others are just extras, nin, dissociadid gives the metaphor of dropping a bowl and it shattering, there is no single original, they’re all the original psyche yet developed at different rates, points in time, ages, other social influence, etc almost like identical twins growing up in completely different environments.
