Matt I want to praise you for your cultural acuity both with the many Japanese you're interacting with and with these Kenyan runners as well. You did a nice job adjusting your English for Margaret Akidor's non-native comprehension level, rephrasing your questions more directly without idiomatic expressions and simpler vocabulary/sentence structure, and speaking slowly. Most native English speakers have no awareness of how full of idioms their speech is and freeze up when their speech isn't immediately understood by a non-native. Your enthusiasm and admiration for the Japan running scene and your cultural willingness to meet the people where they are is awesome. Another brilliant episode, bravo 👏👏👏
Thank you so much for this lovely comment
These are a group of runners that truly love running. They may be considered as “not elite enough” by the top teams, but still they have the Ekiden dream, this is “Run With The Wind” in real life. What a story, although it’s likely they may not fare well in the race, I’ll be rooting for them and hopefully there’s a best stage result from the team.
Now I want a Run With the Wind season 2 that follows a corporate team 😭😭
@@rsBradthat would be awesome, if all the boys came back to form a corporate team
Before this series, I was entirely in the dark regarding the annual tradition of the ekiden and even Japanese run culture. I didn’t even know the ekiden existed. This series has been the most informative run content I’ve ever seen. I not only feel I’ve learned a lot but more importantly feel inspired and invigorated by Japanese run culture. Thank you so much for sharing and much respect to all the Japanese runners, Kenyans included!
Man the depth of athlete in Japan is absolutely insane!
21:33 respect to that guy pushing himself over his limits
I wish the US would catch on with this. So many pro runners can't make a living and keep training at the highest level.
lots of respect to the corporate runners and teams that are working while still being professional/semi-professional.
Thanks for showing the world how serious Japanese are about running and how good they are at it..
this episode is the best about corporate ekiden. I really enjoy this and the question. huge thank for sharing!
Another brilliant episode!
Oh ekiden! Hakone memories
You should do a video on what elite runners do in the weight room
We’ve done a few, have a look through the channel history
Comodi Iida finished at 30th place 👏
Do they recover at all with that kind of work/training schedule?
会沢監督 海外進出ですね!
応援してます!
How can I join the Commidi Lida team while I'm living in South Africa ?
Plz I'm very interested to join their team
Also, I’m curious to know why Japan has banned large groups from running on the roads, should anyone know the answer. I’m excited for more insight into their thought process. Sincerely, someone who appreciates a large, group run but recognizes we all do things differently and can still have a good reason for doing so!
I believe for a FAST small group like them, running on road (like marathons) would be a public nuisance and dangerous for them and for the road users (even when running on the sidewalks, with bicycles etc.). I believe it is doable to do it on some riversides. However, mobilizing a lot of people week in and week out to riversides plus with the drinks and everything can be costly. Parks like this is free to use and have better public transportation access.
Also, making markers, measuring distances, timing, managing groups on the riverside would be challenging compared to the park. Its hard to create a loop without a sharp U-turn.
How can we watch Ekiden live? Keep it up with the content!

1951年の箱根駅伝です😅
来年は日本まで見に来て下さい😊
I wish the company could reduce their work schedule by an hour a day (for at least 4 days a week); i wish the company could spare them some time and budget for training camp at least twice a year…. Wishing the team best
How can one join one of this semi elite groups from Europe? Do they sponsor you?
I want to live this dream. Man, I really wish that, but I've a very bad level :(
What happened to the Hakone EKIDEN race highlights
I suspect there was a copyright claim.
Kind of ridiculous investing this amount of time ans effort in a corporate race.
I’m frankly in awe (and somewhat envious) of their passion and commitment.
