The MVP elevates his team beyond what they could be.
Nash definitely did that.
Yet again there's many things to say about this bashed all-time legend, Nash was an all-time definition of an MVP those two years with the Suns.
Very few could play the pick and roll like him and when he shot the ball he never missed.
It was crazy because he was just pretty good in Dallas. Then he goes to the Suns and is playing out of his mind. Something about that up-tempo style suited him and it worked perfectly. Just give him the ball, everybody spring up court, and Nash will find someone when you least expect it.
He’s sadly very underrated now. He would be even way better if he played in this current era.
All old players would be better now, especially perimeter and isolation players.

He was lowkey nerfed. He had the ability to score 25-30 ppg if he wanted to put he put most of his energy in playmaking.
That doesn’t mean he was nerfed almost all point guards in the early 2000’s we’re expected to play a facilitator’s role, he did this while putting up 4 seasons of 50-40-90 shooting splits (Most in NBA history btw) and averaging double double numbers. From the years 04-09 his team was always top 5 in offensive efficiency. Obviously if you adjusted the pace and put him into today’s game he’d be averaging somewhere around 20+ PTS and 10+ AST on crazy efficiency, but nowhere in his career was he ever nerfed he just didn’t have a lot of opportunities to prove himself from the start. I get what you’re saying though.
He did say one of the Interviews he wished he would've shot more 3's and that he regretted not doing that.

@@gabrielsykes4125 he did have slot of options. He has said so himself and so did all of his teammates and coaches. They wanted him to score more but he stayed in the role that he knew. He has stated multiple times that if he knew where the game was headed today, that he would’ve shot twice as much back then.

I love Nash and those Suns (they were my favorite team at the time) but they were weak defensively. I don't think they'd have beaten the Spurs anyway.

Nash was one of the best point guards to ever play. He had such an amazing vision, it was an absolute pleasure to watch him play. I remember playing old nba live games, nash was always one of the main targets to get in season mode.
I have watched all the passing/assist video's of Magic, Kidd, Stockton, etc., but after seeing those and watching all these guys live, I'm taking Nash as the best. One reason was he was more ambidextrous than any of these guys and he could make all the passes. And he was so fun to watch. Just amazing. Combine that with his shooting efficiency and I think Nash is underrated.
He was good because of his hair when he was drafted it was short and once it started flowing so did his game then he cuts it a goes to the Lakers where he wasn't as good

I noticed this at the time but we all knew Nash wasn't getting elevated to the 3 straight MVP class of player.
2007 is Nash's best season. He was ridiculously efficient that season too.

Nash was an incredible player, incredible point guard. Its a shame there are no more point guards in basketball, a lost art, a lost skill.
Honestly, Nash is the ultimate example of impact going WAAAAAY beyond stats. There’s only 4 players in the last 30 years who could’ve filled his role in that system (Curry, CP3, Nash, and Stockton), and 2 more who maybe could’ve, but I doubt Harden’s selflessness was that level and Lillard doesn’t quite have the eye for those passes

One of my favorite player of all time. He was an huge ispiration for me when i was a kid starting playing basketball in Italy. Im 5'7 and the way he played conviced me that even if i always was the shortes player on court, sometimes brain overcome the size ♥️
He also loves, like me, Soccer and in 2013 he went in Milan for a training with fc intermilan team!
One of the last true pass-first pg in history, but in modern day i can see him play like a doped version of Tray Young, better both in shooting and playmaking...actually imo one of the best 3pt shooter of all time, if he only had wanted to shoot a larger volume of 3s

The funny thing is steve nash is only 6'1" he's definitely a great player his only weaknesses are defense and athleticism other than that he is one of the purist point guards of all time

Nash had a "I'll score if I have to attitude". And sometimes he did just that. But he always set his teammates up so well. Part of why he was such an efficient scorer, particularly in the paint, was his threat to pass. Nash would get in the paint and make the shot blocker choose. Commit to Nash, pass to the big guy, dunk. Stay put, easy layup. Nash was a master at knowing where everyone was on the floor. And outstanding at manipulating defences. He was a pleasure to watch. He made the Suns a consistently great team for years. Ask any contemporary Lakers, Spurs, Dallas player or fan. Steve Nash was the Suns.

I thinks he is severely underrated i think mainly cause people don’t appreciate his mvps and well they aren’t statistically the best ones but they judged value alot for his mvps but the problem is they dont always do that so it’s inconsistent. In 08 i might have given the mvp vote to lebron or dirk potentially ahead of kobe cause of impact and less selfish game

d’Antoni was brought in part way through the earlier season, so no training camp etc.
Amar’e Stoudemire played in only 53 games. Was still improving and made a jump to MVP vote getter in his first full year with d’Antoni.
They had Stephon Marbury (and others) who they traded mid season.
The lineup was all over the place, 14 different starters, all but three started in 10 or more times. (Compared to the following year 10 starters, no one outside the core 5 started in double digit games (lowest of core was Nash at 75 games).
Nash wasn’t the only new key player, Q-Rich also new that year.
This isn’t to say that Nash should get some credit, but the team was completely different there were a bunch of other adjustments etc. - Nash getting way too much love on this point.

Certainly the point guard I would most want to play with. Sometimes a season has more than 1 truly deserving MVP. '05 and '06 were years like that.

Any great player, such as Steve Nash, will always be underrated if they don't win a championship. Winning a championship takes a lot of individual and team talent, but it also requires a good deal of good luck. Nash, just like many other great players that never won a championship, had a lot of bad luck. And if the MVP is a regular-season award, Nash deserved both of his MVP awards.

the MVP award has to many factors and many players from all eras can make arguments for that. But from a solid general running an offense he is definitely one of the best. Not to mention he, and those Mavs and Suns teams were exciting to watch!!! He definitely would be fun to watch in today’s era too.
Nash was one of the most entertaining players to watch. He was a wizard with distributing the ball. So many now call him overrated that he has actually become underrated. And if you solely look at his pints scored you might wonder how he won 2 mvp awards. But if you watched him you would never question this accomplishment. He helped change the game in the 00s much like Curry did in the 10s. And the criticism about never wining it all, well he was in the stacked Western Conference. Sure it would have been great for him to have one one or two championships. But those Spurs and Lakers teams were really great.
I swear its like people don't remember that MVP stand for most valuable player. Nash's first season as a sun would see the team win over 60 games. With he same team, minus Nash, they won 29.

Underrated for sure... I wish the Nets had been able to continue to the semifinals... I love that he is a coach now, though. He knows the game so well which works out spectacularly.

@@jlobiafra Only because Kyrie is a dingleberry and for some reason, Kevin Durant was traded as well. It's all good. I am just glad that a team in a predominately Jewish area doesn't have Kyrie anymore. I still follow Kevin and I'm glad he's back to form, dominating with Phoenix now.

Underrated
Nash gets highly underrated nowadays imo. He was arguably the most efficient player in history, and was an incredible passer.
When it comes to his MVPs, I believe he deserved his 05 MVP considering the ridiculous turnaround the Suns made, and how he made everyone better. He had an MVP-caliber season in 06, but my vote would’ve gone to Kobe. Kobe was inefficient because he had to carry a horrible team and take a bunch of shots. He still averaged 35 pts which is insane. But with that, I think Nash deserved the 2007 MVP as that was arguably his best year, and the MVP that year Dirk Nowitzki lost in the first round.
I also have him ranked as the 6th or 7th best PG of all time. Magic 1, Curry 2, West 3, Robertson 4, IT 5, Nash 6, CP3 7, Stockton 8. I do think CP3 passes nash is he wins a title tho
but the fact that dirk lost in the first round doesn't matter for mvp voting

I saw Nash score 35 pts. against Gonzaga in the SECOND HALF at Gonzaga! Nobody had a clue how good he would be in the NBA, though, just like Stephen Curry. Nobody knew.
I watched as many sun's games as were available on the TV at the time . The way he created consistent highlights game after game was similar to when I was locked in on the bulls and Jordan...Mr.Iverson leading the sixes as well

In one of the episodes of the "Open Court" show with NBA legends they said that Nash benefited from rule changes in the game (Shaq and Reggie Miller stated that bunch of good players became All Star players and their stat numbers increased). What are this rule changes and why they make him an MVP player according to Shaq? I think, it was episode where they were making the 10 players list to add to 50 great players of all time or the episode where everyone was making the starting 5 of each decade ( I`m not sure). The video about Nash MVPs would be interesting, coz I thought this video will cover the controversy situation about his awards.
Uh, I can only assume they're talking about hand checking since they played with and without. Except, that's a low IQ take because Nash was the exact opposite type of player that 'checking' hindered. High-volume, isolation scorers like Jordan, Kobe, Carmelo, etc. were the type of player it hurt as it was harder to keep the ball manuvering in traffic and when pulling up for closely contested jump shots. I'm pretty sure the league started prohibiting defensive strats like that to shamelessly boost Jordan's production which came to be called 'The Jordan Rules'. Nash's offense was very similar to the modern league with transition offense, team movement and perimeter passing to find the open shot. In contrast, the norm in the mid 2000s was still mostly slow, stagnant team offense with isolation wings and PF/C post play. Nash rarely took contested shots; he was able to be so efficient because he only shot when it was the best shot available.
He inarguably deserved at least one MVP and the only people who could possibly object are delusional Kobe riders who ignore his efficiency and the fact Kobe hurt his team as much as he ever helped them.
I will say this.. I have seen multiple games that dude was throwing out tons of assists and then when the game was close near the end, he hit some huge 3's and other jump shots. He would turn his style sometimes in that final minute or so and take a game! One of the best shooters who has ever lived, and one of the best passers! That makes him great!
Nash is easily one of the greatest point guards of all-time. People talk about pure point guards and Nash was all that. He averaged over 10 assists in 7 seasons and always was a great passer. Talk about making everybody better. The dude shot 50, 40, 90 FOUR times. Nash was a GREAT shooter which is evidenced by his expert free throw shooting at over 90% for his CAREER. The dude was a 2 time MVP and people talking like CP is better, you got to be kiddin. smh

Numbers and highlights make him no justice, Steve was an absolute magician at creating shots for his team. He has an amazing shot, he is the player with the most seasons at 50-40-90, ff only he had more of a scoring mentality like new PGs he would have won a championship for sure.
Nash is in-between, neither underrated nor overrated. As for his MVPs, he definitely earned the 1st MVP, but the 2nd one should have gone to either Lebron or Dirk.

@@karanveerdhillon7867 Yeah. I would argue that Dirk and Kobe were both just as valuable to their respective teams as Nash was to his. I think that's why I never agreed with Nash winning two MVP's. Because if you took Dirk off the Mavs for a season, they would probably be just as bad as the Suns were without Nash (and same with Kobe and the Lakers at that time). We just never had to actually witness how bad their teams would be without them because they never left them, so the perception that Nash was more valuable to his team was in his favor.
However, Nash was a hell of a player and certainly wasn't undeserving on his own right.

I think he is properly rated. Unless there are a ton of people saying he's a top 5 point guard ever which I can't view anyone who's never been to the Finals as. Now no it's not entirely his fault, but he absolutely could've done better to get there. Cough cough play better defense. He is a penciled in top 10 point guard ever though. You're right that he could've won a ring if those suspensions never happened in 07, but it's hypothetical. Mike Korzemba did a great video a while back on how the Suns ownership was too cheap during the Steve Nash era, but still, I think this is Steve Nash's time to step it up a little more. Especially on the defensive end. As for the MVPs, he definitely deserved the first one. The second one, I don't feel strongly one way or the other about. The argument for Kobe that year very much could be made.
Nash was really good in 00-s but 2 mvp in a row was too much. I still think that nba just wanted somebody really good at that period of time, somebody but only not №8 after his fall in 2003. And Nash was good enough for this period: №1-3 team in conference and nice stats.

Nash is one of my favorite players of all time even though I wasn't able to see him play on the Suns or when he was good. All I saw was him with his bad knees on the Lakers.

@@Amick44 ya. I know about it now but i was like 6-11 years old then. I knew what basketball was, but i didnt know about the NBA yet. I started the NBA around 2009-2011. But looking back i really wasn't aware of as much as i should've been, which is annoying.
The fact that he was mvp with those other beasts in the league or even in the conversation is impressive as f*ck
I could see Steve Nash being a better Chris Paul in this era with a better 3 point shot and transition play.
I don't think so... Maybe close but not quite. I think the thing that separates paul from nash is paul's defense. Nash is a bit too slow to guard anyone.
