Watch The Zutons perform Valerie back in 2006. Broadcast on the BBC's flagship live music show Later... with Jools Holland.
Was standing at Lime Street station waiting for a train to London just after this came out. As this song started playing in my headphones I glanced up the platform and there were the whole band waiting for the same train. One of those weird serendipitous moments in life.
So cool...I love coincidences like that.
This is a great example of how good and how capable this band is. Sterling musicianship top to bottom.

Amazing song and that sax is the cherry on the cake.
Amy was there with her band, also performing. She was spellbound, and the song never left her head, until Ronson convinced her to record it, she sings it all the time.

Winehouse & Ronson turned it into something you would hear wandering through the Yogurt aisle in Tesco - this here, live & kicking, is the definitive version of the definitive version.
This performance is incredible. I almost thought I was looking at a TOTP video, this sounds almost exactly like the studio version!
yes they were really tight. And to add to that is that instrument quality at Jools is always the best of any television show you almost believe its a studio recording
On TOTP, it may well of sounded like the studio version. Because I think you had to mime singing and playing instruments on there, rather than play live The backing track would of been the studio recording. Totally forgot about this great sounding song.

The Nova Twins came to Hastings several years ago and played in a pub as part of our version of Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday). They were fab and I’m so pleased they are getting recognition.

Liverpool and Britain are a guarantee of good musical stuff. Thing is what we get down here in Buenos Aires on the radio is mostly rhe product... Cumbia villera... Shakira, Shakira... Ricky Martin... There is no need to provide a you tube analysis. A tune is a tune.
I first heard this version by The Zutons. In fact, the first track and performance by this band I saw was "You Will, You Won't" on Jools Holland as well, which featured on a DVD called 'Cool Britania'.
Apparently The Zutons didn't get much air play in The States and Latin America.
My brother introduced me to this song. I didn't even know Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse had covered it until I heard it on a college radio station in Mexico City that played mostly alternative and indie stuff (still does).
The year after Amy's passing, I watched a tribute to her on the Grammys, and the unbearable Bruno Mars showed up to perform "Valerie". That's when I notice Americans' blatant ignorance. They didn't even know it was indeed a cover version by Mark Ronson featuring Amy. I mean, it wasn't even part of Amy discography.
As for The Zutons, I don't know if they're still on the road. It seems it was purely a British thing.
