What is Cobweb Castle and the Spider Keep?
Cobweb Castle LLC was formed in 2020 by Elliott Stanton as he was wrapping up a career in the military. The company launched the patent pending Spider Keep as a wooden habitat designed for the Southern House Spider or Kukulcania hibernalis. These are harmless spiders which proliferate in the Southern states. Elliott had been working over a decade on a design that would allow the unique behavior of Southern House Spider to be observed in a controlled environment. The Spider Keep has been featured on channels such as Clint's Reptiles and The Tarantula Collective. Currently, Elliott continues to grow Cobweb Castle through building the CZcams Channel and updating the wooden habitats to a new plastic design.

BTW IIRC, you don't want to pull their trail webs when its still attached to them because it could harm them easily due to their spinnerets being so sensitive

The pieces you used are so pretty and cool!! We've tried pinning and mounting in class, and I've got some preserved beetles and a spider I'd love to display in a small glass dome.
I was wondering if you had a tutorial for mounting them in a display dome on a stick? With its parts all spread out, a really simple kind.

They like humans… they’re extremely inquisitive when oh comes to people.

The bold jumper is my favorite! It’s really calm for the most part and I’m able to get some good closeups! Thanks for watching!

I really think you should take this video down as you are giving out wrong information an if someone is looking for information an they don’t actually know an watch your video they are going to end up with a dead jumper an some jumpers like the otiosus require even more humidity than the regius/regals.

What about air holes? Or do you just open it once a day?

    • @CobwebCastle

I have had a few wild caught jumpers in these type of habitats for months and they are doing fine. I open them every couple days or just when it gets webbed up. They tend to walk along the top of the glass and leave web trails.
Thanks so much for watching! Please share 👍

I’ve had success with spiders in bags for many years. They don’t stay in there long. Thanks so much for watching!

    What about ventilation?

    • @CobwebCastle
      @CobwebCastle  Před 2 lety

You’re going to want to feed the spider every couple days and they will get enough air as you open the glass. Thanks so much for watching!

Cross ventilation is extremely important for jumping spiders.

From what I’ve found is that I’m opening the glass every day or every other day at most to feed and clean the habitat. I’m sure it is getting enough oxygen.
What has been your experience with these guys and what type of container have you tried?
      Thanks so much for watching!

@@CobwebCastle If I am going to buy an enclosure, I like tarantula cribs medium tree house or arachnid shops front opening.
If I make one (usually the route I go), I use better homes food storage containers
From Walmart. The 4z4x4 is great for slings and the 4X4x8 for adults. I just either use a 1/32 drill bit or heat a thin nail to add ventilation holes to 2 sides, and then I like to add just a few on the top as well.
I mist one side of my enclosures daily & moisten the moss to keep humidity up. I’ve noticed this seems to make molting a smooth process.
      They are fascinating creatures.
Thanks so much! Love the little domes. Super cute!

I was wondering why there was no ventilation and no mist. Also wondering why he said they don’t like humans at all lol. I have 5 my self.

The domes are inexpensive at Hobby Lobby and the spiders are wild caught! Give it a try. They are very enjoyable to watch and observe 👍 Thanks for watching!

I'm not trying to be rude, honestly, but im having a hard time believing how you're talking about the jumper ex: it, thing, etc. And the fact that you have it in a bag 😢 and they dont like humans and dont want to be held? Lol, these are the most intelligent arachnid that are so aware and personable.. maybe you, Sir, should actually try to bond with one and do it with an open mind. Most jumpers come to people, curious and full of wonder. The ones you're finding are probably running away from you for a reason. I really dont want to be rude, but this is actually hard to watch smh

The information he giving out is terrible, the fact he don’t even give them water is terrible and those poor babies need ventilation and humidity and the bag my jaw hit the floor

These are quite literally the worst jumping spider enclosures ive ever seen in my life and ive been breeding jumpers for years. No cross ventilation or ventilation in general, no coverage, zero enrichment. Jumping spiders spend 90% of their lives at the tops of their enclosures, that's why your spiders make their hammocks at the top of the glass because they have nothing else up there. They need a lot of top heavy coverage to feel safe. This is just downright disgusting to house them the way you do and to try to "teach" people how to make these poor excuses of enclosures??? Wow.
