We work hard to get videos done on time not because we need them out on a certain day, but to have more time for the next one. CZcams upload momentum is a real thing so we cannot get in the habit of missing weeks.
Also, for those calling me out on using After Effects 2014, I use a couple plugins that haven't been updated to 2015 yet lol. It's dumb, I know.

The others are getting spread thin elsewhere while Wren is their dedicated editor for Corridor videos, also like he said, only one computer was good for editing what they wanted

I have never had the misfortune of using AFX but I did use Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign during my graphic design degree. While I did find this bts amusing I also empathize with Wren as I have been hard up against deadlines where large portions of work aren't finished or the computer didn't want to cooperate. Only difference is I *had* to turn in my work, finished or not, or I didn't receive a grade. I rushed so much stuff on some projects it isn't even funny.

I want to say this is my favorite bts video but I could feel Wren's pain. Please take breaks, I am sure majority of people who watch corridor videos won't mind delays. You are amazing Wren, just don't overwork yourself.
The problem is the Patreon, so they are kinda expected/required to have a schedule cause they are getting paid for it to come out on time.
Another issue with delays is that it becomes more difficult to get the future videos on schedule. One delay will ripple through the other projects.
Come on the Corridor team work all night long to make these vids! Surely patrions can wait a while. They're all overworked.

yeah. it has to do with youtube's algorithm for featuring chanbels. youtube is more likely to show a video from a channel on your subscription box or in the suggested videos if the channel uploads more often or on time. if they break out of schedule then their mostly to lose views, thus lose income. game theory explains it better and in more detail in their "youtube is broken" video.

So I likede the video that you made. It was very cool - but damn I know that feeling that you had. So I understand that it was a really tough time for you, but I will say that this was the best vlog from this channel. That means that you basically made two great videos at the same time. Also this vlog really encapsulate how it sometimes can be for artists - especially under time pressure. Also sidenote I Interactive Digital Media - but damn sometimes I wonder if we would be happier without all these great toys of internet and videomaking. Thumbs up for your hard work.

Teenis Teenis not always. Some directors don’t give enough time and you have to take shortcuts. Like what happened with black panther. Animation is hard and time consuming.

I think they can't do that. Setting a schedule up but break it frequently is pretty bad.
I think the problem is not really that they want to be on time for the fans, but rather for themselves, they're a company and they need to make money to keep everything running. If they delay a video, this means they get money later and can have consequences (people getting fired, not being able to pay bills on time). I think the thing they need to learn is maybe try to anticipate the time they need and perhaps plan better. just my opinion though
They can't really adopt that philosophy though - their entire business is based on frequent scheduled uploads. If they casually released content, they wouldn't be able to do what they are doing. I totally get what you mean though.
Why is Wren always struggling and suffering?

I gotta say, for the amount of effort put into this, the final quality was just a tad lower than I was expecting. It's not the fault of the editing and VFX (those were prefect), but the lower resolution of the gear 360 kills it a little bit. I was thinking that you could use the gopro rig, but that would have definitely made things more complicated. IDK, jut my opinions.
Bravo for the effort put in. And Wren, you need to sleep for like 2 days. As someone who's been in a similar situation in other project, I totally feel for you, Wren. It gave me flashbacks.
Yeah, definitely agree with you. This is why I'm not a big fan of 360 videos. I know a lot of time and effort is put into them, but the quality just kills it. As for the video itself, I thought the story was a bit boring and the music didn't match at all. That's my opinion though. Overall I really liked the concept. Very creative. From a storytelling standpoint, not so much.
I think the problem here is stitching the GoPro footage together, because it's even more experimental software. I can imagine they choose time efficiency over sharpness etc. as the 360 gear used has an easier workflow.

Sirphatcat I wasn't saying it was poorly produced or that it was the fault of anyone working on it. I said that all of the work was slightly lost on most viewers due to the low-resolution of the gear 360.

Wren you are an insane guy for doing so much work.... you worked your butt off with doing something no one has ever done before. Considering how much time and tears and effort into this I think you still did an amazing job and maybe even got other people thinking about this idea. This was an amazing video/experience to witness. Wren, I feel your pain, but I have never had it that bad. Your compositing work is amazing. Carmichael, your ability to make us feel and turn this whole process into a short film was incredible. My mouth literally dropped when "the file was corrupted" came up; like I was watching a drama on TV. You guys are my inspiration to continue working on short films and making frequent videos on my production channel "Death Lake" (shameless plug, I know..) and now I'm wanting to get into BTS videos thanks to you guys!

Also appreciate the footage of Carmichael working because THAT footage needs to be edited at the very end, so it's extra work/Wrendering for him, to produce extra BTS content for us.
Love the music, sound effects (especially the Mario Galaxy portal jumps), and VFX. Great job solving the very uncommon VFX puzzle and somehow getting it done this week as promised. Also VERY surprised to see Wren be the cameraman for a portion of the vlog.
For craps sakes somebody get Wren a hammock, his wife, favorite season of The Game of Thrones, bottle of chocolate stout, and a onewheel, and leave the couple alone for a week. He bloody earned it days ago. Oh wait... Work on new video starts tomorrow... &#%$ CZcams momentum!

Its really nice to see just how much you guys care about your content. It feels like people usually set arbitrary dates and when they come and go its no big deal but to see just how frustrated you guys got because a video was a little late is actually super comforting tbh. Its amazing to see the passion not just for the content but for the people you produce the content for. Two thumbs up, 11/10, keep doing awesome things!
What’s great about this channel is that we actually see the artists behind the scenes and see their struggles. We never see that on like a marvel movie or something. It’s refreshing

I really don't mind how long it takes to make these awesome videos, i hate that you go through so much stress to create them. I've always been pleased with every upload and Real Mario Galaxy is definitely one of my favorites! just keep up the good work and take your time if needed.
What makes this video so good is that editors and producers can relate to this situation, i edit basic videos and i have been in this situation, so i really feel wren in this one

When I watched the original Mario video i was un amused. I didn't even bother to like it. After watching the struggle of creating the video I went back and did so. I then shared THIS video to every single one of my friends who has done video with me in the past. We know the struggle. Love you Wren < 3.

Great job Wren. Video turned out better than great and you deserve some rest. Pulling all nighters and being stressed out are just some of the perks in working in this industry. In the end, you do it because you love it and look forward to the next challenge.

However much Wren gets paid, it's not enough.
It's ironic that this video was made to document the making of a solid youtube video but was just as brilliant in its own composition. This video is the hero's journey: status quo when Wren takes on the project, the rendering process acts as the antagonist to create conflict and introduce the rising action, and Wren uses all the strength amd resources he has only to fail. Then he gets new strength and a chance to beat the deadline. The climax happens when Wren adapts and switches to Sam's computer, effectively solving the problem and beating the antagonist. The falling action occurs as Wren continues to problem solve and brings things back to a new status quo with the help of the other crew members. And finally, the plot concludes when Wren can home and rest. Wren, you're a hero! I'll take this type of honest narration over typical Hollywood any day.
