    Ordering a Tesla is unlike buying any other car. You can order it on your phone in a few minutes. However, there are some things you need to know beforehand to save you confusion and save you money. I've bought two Tesla vehicles (2018 Model 3 and 2022 Model Y) with a third Tesla on order (Cybertruck) that I haven't bought yet but possibly soon. Use a referral link from a Tesla owner. Right now the reward for using a referral is 3 months of free full self driving FSD capability ($600 value) + 1 year of free premium connectivity ($99 value). Keep in mind these referral rewards change so check the referral link to see what the latest perks are. Check if you're eligible for the full federal tax credit of $7,500. Tesla’s website has some really info and explains it pretty well. But don't forget about local incentives. Tesla also has a page on this but you can also check the Department of Energy website for your state. If you are not eligible for the full $7,500 tax credit when purchasing the car don't worry - there may be a way for you to take advantage of it by using the “leasing loophole”. Tesla currently passes the $7,500 savings to the customer when leasing. The only downsides are you're capped at 15,000 annual miles and you can't buy the vehicle at the end of your term. On the Tesla design page there's an option for probable savings and purchase price. Tesla defaults to the probable savings but you want to change it to purchase price for the most accurate pricing. However the purchase price doesn't include the additional $1,600+ for the required destination fee & order fee. Instead of designing a Tesla, you can choose from existing inventory. But if you order a custom Tesla, get the cheapest base wheels. Don't waste money on upgrading wheels. Standard/smaller wheels give more versatility, are cheaper, and have more range. The standard wheels have aero caps so you can keep those on for better range or pop those off for a nice looking rim underneath. Don't waste money on enhanced autopilot or full self driving capability (FSD). All Tesla cars come with basic Autopilot which is good enough for most. Enhanced Autopilot costs $6,000 while FSD is $12,000

      Trade in my 2022 Model 3 RWD for $23k(USD) and bought a 2021 Model YLR AWD, Red, 7 seater, white interior with 38k miles for $28k (USD) from a 3rd party dealership. Love the Y and the range is still at 305 miles.

    Some excellent tips, Andy!
    When I got my M3 SR+ in 2021, there was a federal tax credit for getting charging equipment. We got a bigger refund with my Wall Connector and the 220/240 outlet and charger cable for my wife’s VW ID.4.
    Absolutely look for any incentives the feds, state, local, and utility are offering in your area!

    If you decide to go with the Mobile Connector and a 14-50 outlet, make sure your electrician installs a high quality Bakelite receptacle such as Hubbell. Most 14-50 receptacles are really not suitable for hours of continuous high current usage. But the safest option is a hard-wired Wall Connector. This is one area I don’t think being frugal is smart.

    Thanks for the tips! I already ordered the new Model 3 long range in white with black interior, and we are really excited to get delivery. I do have a question, however, our estimated delivery is about a one-week window (April 11 to April 20) and hasn't updated at all since then. We do have our VIN and have completed all the tasks available to us so far, so we are a bit worried about it being delayed. What should we expect with our delivery window? Will it update once again as we get closer to the date range mentioned? Or will it just suddenly update for us to schedule delivery/pickup? What has been your experience with this?

    In some states a trade-in reduces your sales tax. Automakers are of course aware of this, so they tend to lowball their trade-in offers more in these states. Just something to be aware of.

    I was thinking of buying a Tesla, but then they removed turn signal stalk, and gear selector stalk.
    Then Tesla released 12.3.3 FSD to everyone, even though it is still full of issues and disengagements.
    I am going to hold off on the Tesla, for a long while.

      @Geckogold Pƙed měsĂcem

      If you were thinking about a Model Y, they still come with gear selector and turn signal stalks. And even though they are including a free month of FSD, you can still decline it and use regular Autopilot. Once the Juniper refresh comes out, probably next year, then it'll likely be gone too. I've already put 90k miles on my 2020 Model Y that I got back in June 2020. That car is very fun to drive, and only one major repair to fix an air louver due to a piece of wood knocking a wire out in the grille. Considering I visited a lot of National Parks, that might explain that. Other than that, still runs great.
      Nice thing is all trims of the Model Y qualify for the tax credit. So long as you don't exceed the income limits, you can basically claim the entire $7500 on it. I'm not a tax accountant, so don't quote me entirely on this, but from what I saw, the IRS won't necessarily go after you if you don't make enough to owe $7500 Federal tax. It seems they'll only go after you on this if you make too much ($150k single, $225k head of household, or $300k married filing jointly), AND you take the credit when you buy the EV.
      If you make more than that, but don't take the credit at point of sale, you're good.

      @@Geckogold I think that all Teslas (besides the Model S) are kind of ugly. And the Model Y looks worse than the Model 3, in my opinion.
      I often drive in cold weather, and Tesla range is reduced a lot in that environment. That is a big negative for me.

    Why do CZcamsrs keep sitting on their Tesla's aluminum hoods? It bends easily! I really don't get how the $7,500 tax credit benefits someone that leases a Tesla. You're basically renting the car, so what does the tax credit for that do? And Tesla defaulting the ordering page to the Probable Savings is extremely deceptive to customers. Often people don't catch that and then order, realizing later that they have to get a bigger loan and if they cancel the order then they end up having to forfeit the order fee. So not cool Tesla! But Andy you made it seem like the $250 order fee is an additional cost, even if you do complete the order. It's not, because Tesla will take that $250 off the price of the car. And yes, taking in to Tesla or any manufacture, will get you the lowest value. Selling privately always gets you the most, but you also have to invest more of your time for test drives and you have to do the DMV paperwork. Sometimes it's worth it to just drive your car to a dealership and drive away with a new car, while they do all the paperwork. Andy I love how you said a screen protector is $20 yet the one you showed was double that.

    Honestly. Disappointed you portray tenet as a good thing to your audience. It’s a literal balloon payment that has no upside and TONS of downside. And the sad part is. The majority of people who would be attracted by it. Are the exact people that have no business taking on a balloon payment loan.
