      Wow! Your Supercharger prices are low. In Britain, Tesla drivers pay about £0.69 per kWh and owners of other vehicles pay about 10p more, at about 79p. That's close to $1 per kilowatt hour.

    I owned a Tesla Model X from 2016-2021, the best car in 40 years, no issues, no range anxiety, no charging in the cold problems, the Falcon Doors worked flawless. The Tesla X saved my life going 65 mph in Kansas City on 435 south loop. A very large Church like chair fell from the back of a truck. I did not have time to respond but guess what, the car steered left to avoid the chair crashing into my windshield and likely severely injuring me or worse. Then steered back into the original lane to avoid a car to my left rear blind spot. There no amount of features better than collision avoidance. For Tesla its routine to help its drivers, its built into the design of this EV

      No comes standard any Tesla but you do need to choose those options in control panel

    Tesla removed the US sensors on its cars last year. This means that the summon and autopark features are completely disabled. All that my Enhanced Auto Pilot package offers at present is the automatic lane change on highways. Shouldn't you mention this in your review? This is certainly something that "I Wish I Knew Before Buying"! All I wanted is being able to make the car move forward or backward a bit in tight parking spaces while standing next to it.

      They probably determined most people don’t use auto park or summon. I know I don’t. They are too gimmicky right now.

      My model 3 activated its automatic emergency braking system for no reason when I was not using autopilot several days ago. It was very dangerous
      Since they announced “tesla vision” the software updates to my car degraded the quality of the autopilot and other features and I think this degradation is related to this decision. I loved this car until these updates have made existing features worse and dangerous

    Ryan, this is the best video you've produced for buyers in decision-making mode as to ICE vs EV. I am critical of the advertising done by EV companies (of which Tesla is not one, as they don't advertise), which for some reason refuse to address the main concerns of the average buyer--range, charging, and lifestyle. This video should be required viewing at Tesla sites, not only for prospects but also for sales advisors.

    Tesla also makes multiple plugs for the Mobil connector.
    I use a Nema 6-20 to charge with 75 feet of extension cord since I cannot park in a driveway. Easy to manage compared to a 14-50 cord. I gain about 7% every hour and by morning when I need to use it, she’s ready to go.

    Great job explaining, as usual. Modal Y for 2 years now. Love it. Charge mine while I'm sleeping at about 11 cents per kwh. Only used a super charger on vacation for 1 week at 41 cents per KWH.

    15:15 For anyone getting a NEMA 14-50 installed, make sure you get an industrial grade outlet. Hubbell makes a very good one. It's a bit more expensive than non industrial grade versions but you shouldn't' be trying to save $50 when the cheap outlets could cause a fire.

      Yes, this is a big deal. The regular NEMA 14-50 outlets at Home Depot are NOT meant to be regularly plugged and unplugged. They are meant for a stove/dryer that gets plugged in and left there. Lot of melted plugs and fires have risen from using cheap plugs.

      I bought my NEMA 14-50 outlet for $35 at Home Depot in 2018. Do you regularily plug and unplug your mobile wall connector? I have not unplugged mine for more than 5 years. You take it with you when you travel? I do not. I just use superchargers or charge at motels/hotels (with the adaptor if not a Tesla wall charger i.e destination charger) when I travel. @@coltonmccormack8978

      Tesla actually recommends two specific industrial grade outlets, with part numbers. Hubbell is one of them.

    Drier outlets are NEMA 14-30 and you will need the 14-30 adaptor for the mobile charger to use that outlet. The NEMA 14-50 is a range outlet and the same configuration in used for 50Amp RV outlets in campgrounds. Highly recommend the 14-50 adaptor.

      I have both and use the 30amp at my daughters home drier outlet. I use the 50amp for RV outlets at our cabin and other campsites. @@W1SRR

    I have Tesla 3 2020. 116,000 miles and stop working. Battery went from 25% full charge to 0% in 3 days. Need a replacement, cost $13,222. Consider this before buying a Tesla. Warranty is until 100,000 miles in this model. Supercharges will burn your battery.

    It’s worth noting you cannot change the delivery center on the inventory cars. They will screw you out of the $250 unless you pick it up from the original delivery destination. That is not clear at all when you place the reservation.

    This helped me quite a bit.. I have been researching information on the used ones. So had some challenges learning which ones came with some options and standards I like. It seems the model Y was first to market with ways to reduce noise and extend the efficiency of the battery. So I thought I'd rent a model 3 to learn the difference.
    I rented the model 3 on the West coast and here on the East coast.. really is a great car. I'm learning that range really doesn't seem to matter as much considering all of the charging stations available. While shopping for used vehicles, I noticed the double glass, and heat pump only came in certain models, and later years.. Whether to go with the radar or visual. Also found the Enhanced and FSD version leaves much to be desired, and not fully functional.

    Our RWD model 3 is pretty close. We commute 130 miles a day and doing the math 270 miles for a full charge is pretty close to what we get. Of course we hardly exceed 70 mph because of the nature of the commute.
    Oh and Tesla mobile connector for the win. 😊
    As far as saving for us, as you know 91 octane is $5.50 a gallon in our area. My BMW X4 gets 21 mpg. At the current price of gas our commute cost about $40 a DAY in the X4. Same commute in the Model 3 is about $6.

      I currently spends about 180 AUD a week. I have a solar panel at home and can charge the car free of f charge. I am looking at significant cost cut.

    Great video!!! Super helpful. Last week I was not even considering a new car never mind an electric. BUT after looking at the gas prices for my 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD-Off Road access cab and being super pissed off at the gas station pretty much weekly I've decided to go electric. I live in Nova Scotia where there is a 5K federal rebate and a 3K provincial rebate. Makes it a lot easier. The only issue I'm having is that Tesla does not seem to want to give a fair price on a trade which hurts me for purchase taxes (15%) they are lowballing by 10K So, so now I have to try to sell the truck privately in hopes I can bridge the gap and buy the Y or S.

    Lexus RX is a full class size bigger than a model Y. The competitor would be a lexus NX hybrid which gets 37mpg. Thats about 8.9gals to drive 330 mies at $5.40 = $48.

Is the Model Y Standard RWD good for Toronto winter weather and it safe to drive on city road and highway? I don't drive long distances, maybe 10 to 12 times a year Like niagara falls, Chicago/New York. So, what do you suggest? Is RWD suitable for Toronto weather?

    Ryan, here's a story for you. I own Tesla solar and powerwalls. For 2 years, although I've asked to be paid at end of year for generating, Edison has kept rolling over "credits". Each year telling me they're was no record of me asking for a check. I've kept all records showing their shell game calculator. Tesla app shows I've generated 9k dollars worth of what they'd charge my neighbors, their bill says 1.8k while only crediting 800 dollars. Then the "roll over" amount is recalculated by them to the next period by half. Southern California Edison are thieves.

    Good points. Ryan, Id like to see a comparison of savings buying an Inventory Tesla vs the usual ordering system. Also, can I bring a vehicle inspector with me when I take delivery to look at the paint and other issues that are common complaints about Teslas? What is the policy if I reject the new car when I inspect it?

    In texas, MYLR, tesla insurance, driving score 99, insurance $198/mo based on estimated mileage a year, estimated mileage a year 15,000mi.

    I wish I knew that Homelink was not included when I purchased my MYP. I think a $54,000 car should include this feature considering my 2016 Mazda 6 ($30k, when new) has this feature. Aside from that, it was not clearly stated and I would have preferred to just paid for it and had it installed upon delivery.

    Yea in California it makes way more sense cost wise as here in Florida were gas is under $3 a gallon, so if you have a car with 40mph per gallon the difference is not that much in cost.

    I purchased both a Model 3 and Model Y a year apart and both have a design in the bottom aero panel underneath the cars. In both cases, a screw or bolt came off and allowed for a portion of the front of this panel to flop down, and hence start to hit the road any time you go through a dip in the road. Eventually, this break off while driving. Also, when it rained, the cars would collect water underneath and get into the underside. This caused mildew and I had to replace the cabin filter earlier. Both cars were less than one year old. Getting both aero panels replaced cost me about $400 each from Tesla. They did not consider this to be covered by warranty. This is a design flaw that needs to be fixed by Tesla. If you do a google search on this subject, you’ll find multiple instances of this by other people.

    I love both my 2019 Model 3 and my 2022 X. But one thing they both suffer from in equal measure is phantom braking. These days it seems to happen on the open highway when the car is cresting a gentle hill and it can't see much of the road ahead. It then 'panics' and slams on the brakes. Most everyone I talk to about this while supercharging has the same experience. And surely this has caused some accidents, but I never seem to hear about them. I'm very unclear as to how full self driving can be prophesied when they can't seem to solve this simpler problem.

      My model 3 activated its emergency brakes when I wasn’t using the autopilot when I still had my foot on the accelerator and put my car into park! I was on a clear empty road no obstacles or anything. It was very dangerous. It stopped so hard I thought I had hit or run something over. This was about a week ago.
      I traded it in. I’ve been a Tesla owner since 2017, I’ve overlooked phantom braking during autopilot because everyone knows about that, but this spooked me so badly.

    In the near future and some states already Ev sux more than a hybrid or cheap 4 cylinder car. With increased annual ev registration and cost to recharge going up and needing to recharge more frequently bc these things get nowhere near their 100% capacity and longer lines going to increase when everyone starts using Tesla chargers.

    Tesla insurance has gotten a lot higher in TX and also depends on how much you drive. My last premium was 95 at 8-9k annual pace for $102.10.
    I also feel they find very finicky ways to lower your score since you can't submit a review. For instance, front collision warnings aren't supposed to count while on autopilot, but they frequently do. Similarly, if you use your brake at all, it's considered hard braking. Add into it that they increase your rate any time you drive after 10PM, and it's just another slap. It has been cheaper for me, but it's nowhere near as cheap as shown in the video.

    I found the Tesla purchase software very confusing with third party financing. At one point a week before the purchase, it told us we owed the Tesla dealership $10k immediately, and that failure to pay would result in us losing the vehicle we chose. We didn't call the dealership to confirm this, as we had difficulty getting answers from them on the phone, and just had a check cut at the credit union and took it in person. When we got to the dealership they told us we didn't owe anything, they couldn't accept the payment before the closing date, and the software was not accurate as far as the message we got. The actual closing went smoothly, but the experience leading up to it was a mess, in our example.

    Buyer beware. We took delivery of a leased M3LR 3+ months ago and still have no permanent plates for the vehicle. We can't have more than three temp plates so now it's sitting in our garage unable to be driven legally. When we go to our local Tesla customer sales center (where we took delivery) they say they've opened a "case" but nothing is resolved. Terrible experience.

      Snohomish PUD is 11 cents, non TOU. I prefer to always be charging so the maintenance processes don't drain the battery while parked. Switching to TOU isn't worth it to me.

      I guess it's sub-11 cents. There's a daily base charge that's negligible if you use power every day.
      For electric service to your home, the rate is the greater of:
      10.279 cents per kilowatt-hour
      Plus a base charge between 22 cents and 77 cents a day, depending on electric panel size (see rate schedule 7 in the electric rate book for complete details);
      OR 53 cents per day per meter

    Wish Teslas had rear cross traffic alert as most all other vehicles. I find it very valuable. Blind spot alert would also be great to have. And a radio as every car I've ever owned. A rear wiper would increase safety on the MY.

      Um...they have blind spot alert, the car in your blind spot turns red on the screen, if you use your turn signal you'll get a little resistance in the steering wheel too iirc. And there's a traditional radio too, it's under "sources"

      @@saultknutz1166 Thanks, I was referring to the traditional light indicator in or near the side mirrors since that's where I'm looking. Someone told me there was no AM/FM radio. Never seen or heard it mentioned in a video. Per Tesla: We offer an additional Radio Upgrade, including the installation of a compatible radio tuner and antennas, that allows customers to retain access to FM radio and Sirius XM radio. It is not possible to retain access to AM radio.

    Great video with honest and accurate info. I have owned my dinosaur (2018 Model 3 RWD LR) and really enjoyed it. Three best features... one pedal driving, cost savings, and fun to drive. You forgot to mention the Ranger (mobile) service. It is great to get your car serviced in your own garage. Only service needed was replacing the cabin air filter. I love no oil changes

    Thanks for the great video. Regarding the Tesla buying process, as a first time Tesla buyer I'd give it a solid "C-" (not great). Basically zero consideration for first time buyers (service center spent no time explaining differences from a traditional buying process). We encountered the very arrogant "Teslas Sell Themselves" attitude, which in the end is what will cap their market size if it continues. The app is OK, from buying perspective. The app presents a serial process and lacking a proper overview of what to expect (say for a cash purchase) you have no insights to what expect (for example what forms of payment are allowable), which can unnecessarily draw out the delivery process. The Tesla referral process is a joke in that is is poorly expected (apparently referrals are device-specific (not account-specific) so it you except a referral from a friend on your phone browser (with an active Tesla account) but then later use your computer to reserve the vehicle (via a browser on the same account) the referral is not applied to your order and you are out of luck -- too bad is the Tesla SC response.

    Thanks for another great video. However, I'm compelled to take issue with your stated cost of charging a Tesla at home.
    I'm an owner of a 2023 Model Y and have installed a Tesla Wall Charger at home, which is great. However, it's a bit misleading when people only use the basic cost/kWh when comparing the cost of charging an EV to the cost of filling an ICE car with fuel. There are also a number of ancillary fees that need to be added into the total cost of home charging an EV. Here in Massachusetts (or "Taxachusetts"!), for example, National Grid charges me $0.14/kWh for basic electricity, which is pretty good by itself. However, they also tack on many other monthly charges, most of which are per-kWh fees: Customer charge, Distribution charge, Transmission charge, Transition charge, Energy Efficiency charge, Renewables charge, Distribution Solar charge, and Electric Vehicle Program charge. After adding all of those charges into the cost per kWh, I end up paying $0.35-$0.38/kWh, which is a huge increase over the basic $0.14/kWh charge!
    From what I've found, your quote from Southern California Edison (SCE) is fairly similar to the charges in my area, but your quote excludes many SCE ancillary charges. Sure, the basic SCE charge for electricity may only be $0.23/kWh, but they also tack on many other charges: Wildfire fund charge, Generation charge, Transmission charge, Distribution charge, nuclear decommissioning charge, public purpose programs charge, new system generation charge, power charge indifference adjustment, franchise fees, fixed recovery charge, city utility user tax, and of course state taxes. With all of these charges, the true cost of charging increases quite a bit.
    Now, when I mention all of the above to people touting the low cost of charging an EV, they inevitably respond with something like "I'd have to pay those other charges whether I charge an EV or not, so I don't count those extra charges". The charges for simply having electricity in one's home should be divided proportionately among all of the electrical devices in that home. In my case, charging my tesla accounts for approximately 60% of my total electrical usage, so I cannot simply ignore those ancillary charges.
    I'm a long time EV advocate, and an even bigger Tesla proponent, but I just cannot agree with the low cost of charging that so many people publicize. Even Tesla's app does a poor job of stating how much the owner is saving on fuel. I figured out that the Tesla app uses the high average cost of premium gas and a very low 22mpg to inflate the apparent savings of charging, neither of which apply to many people. My previous car (a 2016 Civic), for example, ran on regular unleaded and averaged 42mpg, and it wasn't even a hybrid.
    It would be great if you could make a video that addresses the true cost of charging, or at least mention that many other fees can inflate the cost of charging by a considerable amount and that it can differ greatly from state to state.
    Thank again, Ryan, for all of your efforts to keep us informed with Tesla and EVs in general.

      @preethiviswanathan1649, regardless of cost of electricity, I would still prefer a Tesla (or any EV) over a gas vehicle. Overall, the cost of ownership for a Tesla (or any EV?) is still a benefit, and after the first 6 months to a year of driving, an EV has a much lower carbon footprint (electric power plants are far more efficient than gas engines and wind/hydro/solar also contribute to electric). Gas prices in some states definitely make gas cars more expensive to run, and gas prices are often more susceptible to high fluctuations than electricity. I'm not sure how many people feel this way, but I am still willing to pay more for electricity than gas. EVs are still the better choice and will only get more cost effective and better for the environment as the technology evolves.

    Thanks for the info. I checked on Tesla Insurance in Texas and my cost per month is $185. Must be because of my age and coverage selections. No accidents and I am retired so wish I could get the $85 rate you showed. I use Tesla Energy for my electricity in Texas. Pay around 15 center per kWh and for an extra $25 per month I can charge my Tesla Y for free between 10pm and 8am.

      My experience with Tesla insurance has been relatively positive. The negative; warnings (such as forward collision warnings) that make no sense. Also, If you take one long road trip early in the year your predicted mileage will be skewed upward to a number you may not come close to meeting, thereby paying more than you should. Your average will come down slowly while you pay more than your should. It is frustrating.

    California Supercharger rates are 58cents/kWh. It's cheaper to put $5 gas in a Toyota Hybrid. Add in that your battery will not last 10 years if you keep using Superchargers, so you'd better hope it fails inside the 8 year drive train warranty or you are in for a big bill.

    DAMN Ryan, Isurance for Tesla blew my mind, I have 1 MDX advance pack with MSRP 63k and Nissan Murano and I pay to Esurance 520 for 6 month for full coverage, rental car and roadside assistance. I was thinking to get a Y but insurance oh my. I have a Ariya offer for Evolve+ 4EForce AWD for 1500 down and 495 month for 36 month lease and have option to buy after lease for 28K. Nissan is giving you 7500 tax rebate while signing up the lease, for example 56K Evolve + model minus 13K discount total leased price of 43K for 36 month payment of 495 and 28K buy out option. any suggestion? I bet Esurance for Ariya will not be that higher. The only reason I am leaning towards Tesla is no more Dashboard clutter of 100s of buttons. lol and FSD

    The only design flaw is no dedicated spare tire area. I wish they would have an option to have a spare tire in the frunk area since that area is useless to me and probably useless or drastically under-used regarding most Model 3 and Y owners.

      I agree. Though we do use the frunk for road emergency gear, lift point pucks, tire inflator, etc. It would make sense to reconfigure the front area to allow a spare tire plus the gear you hope you never need. They could even sell a package upgrade that includes all those things.

      @@SeattlePaulie The difference with ICE vehicles is the highway vs city mileage are stated. With EVs, it's just one number. As a Tesla owner, I can say that it never hits the range number unless I drive 95 km/h to 59 mph and the temperature is 20 C (68 F). Otherwise, it's impossible to meet Tesla's range number. The EPA allows some variability, which should be removed. Also, the EPA should force all vehicles to post the City and Highway mileage numbers. The next thing the EPA needs to do is state the average speed for both the city and highway mileage estimates. The EPA could also force OEMs to state winter mileage at let's say -10 C (14 F).

      They are required to report the EPA number which is verified by the EPA. The number is accurate if you drive that way that is to say you drive at 55% highway at 55 mph and 45% in the city EPAis not testing how you drive your car different from their testing methodology. Your mileage will vary from theirs, but they decided that methodology will be the standard that needs to be reported by vehicles.

    I took delivery of a model Y RWD this week. During my research before purchase, with your great help, I was expecting that my car would have a LFP battery; not the case. It has a Li-ion. I feel blindsided since all the info I gathered online indicated that the LFP was the standard for this car. So it seems that there is no way to tell what your getting when you place the order. Nevertheless it's a great car and I am looking forward many miles of great fun.

    Good point, insurance is more expensive than ICE, EV depreciation ( 20% per year avg.) is faster than ICE/Hybrid due to the nature EV 1st Gen, and on top of the tires wear out much faster than ICE/Hybriad , $1500 set of 4 every 2500 miles. That's the the nature of 1st Gen and 1.5 Gen EV, due to automation and lower material ocst over time. Thus, hybrid doesn't seem too bad after all, wati till 2nd -3rd Gen stabilized the cost., then I reconsider EV.

    Hey Ryan, I bought the MY floor mats from the link, and I have to say they are TRASH. They don’t fit correctly, bunch up when you move the rear seats, and aren’t any thicker than the OEM mats. Started my return of them immediately (and they charge you for shipping +20% restocking fee. SCAM!)
