I like your honest video. It shows one thing . Cheap does not always mean crap. There are reasons why the Axial Capra is more expensive.
If we compare oranges to oranges an RTR Capra does not cost. 10x the FTX ravine but 5 x as much.
Your upgrades made the higher price gap.
Servos,ESC , motor , tyres etc against FTX stock and yet we cannot ignore the FTX performance with all stock items compared to a modified rig.
If only what you removed out of the RTR Capra was installed on the Ravine I strictly believe that the FTX would even have done better.
This shows that expensive does not necessarily mean the best. The extra money you spend in the Axial Capra at stock stage has certain reasons behind it. One of this is 3rd party support and upgrades something FTX ravine will lack.
The important thing for someone starting hobby is the budget see how much of a car you can get with your budget.
Get a hobby grade always -and FRX offers entry level hobby grade rigs which are good value for money .
Finally enjoy the hobby and exploit your vehicle. When it’s time to upgrade consider higher priced RTR’s or better Kits against upgrading a car that you already have.
When you upgrade do not expect always a better result some times a combination of mechanisms do not perform well or need tuning to get them work well.
    Most of all enjoy

I own the Redcat Danchee Ridgerock which is very similar and I just recently sold my Axial Bomber. You do have the weight advantage with the Capra VS the FTX Ravine, it would be interesting to see how the FTX would hold up in the challenging area if it were weighted down. Quite honestly, I have more fun with the Redcat Danchee than I did with my Axial Bomber knowing that it's a 1/4 of the cost of my Axial Bomber.

hey Phil... way away from the RC thing, ya got blackberries there! pick about a 5 gallon bucket worth to juice them through woman's knee high stockings (picking happens fast if you tell some children you'll bake them a couple pies btw). put the juice in a 2 gallon jug with some yeast and a small pile of sugar on the floor of the jug, a cork with a hole to put a bubbler into or make yourself a bubbler with some aquarium tubing also works (a "crazy straw" is good too, just keep water in the lower halves of the loops). keep in a dark warm place, check if it needs water in the bubbler, or a little sugar added, about once a week. if you do it now you'll have some great blackberry "champagne" (it'll self carbonate) that'll be 10-12% alcohol for Christmas / New Years season. its really good special stuff!
for the pies, use about 1/2 whole berries and 1/2 juiced berry meat, they're getting boiled with some sugar, corn starch or gelatin anyway, pie crust is easy to make costs about nothing too. they look great with a lattice on top is also an "easy nothing".
the Ravine same as Redcat/Danchee RidgeRock, its lowlier little brother is the 40 dollar "Trail Hunter". with the Trail Hunter, peel the front tires there's just enough room between the tire beads for 4 turns of 2 mm solder (just did it). not bothering with the rears because a little up front is probably enough to help steering+traction climbing. I know too much weight will bog the little axle motors.. 4 turns is about 20" worth, times two is a substantial bit of weight added up front really. same act to the Ravine might help it a bunch, cheap+easy, easy to undo if it hurts more than helps. start with a spot of CA, last wrap press the steps tight with flat screwdriver, wrap electric tape stretched (cut 1/2 width) 2 layers, end with spot of CA to lock the tape keeping the solder compressed to the rim. put the tires back on.. easy 5 minute job.

Great fun mate! And, be honest, the Capra definitely has better ground clearance with those drop axles, (or whatever they're called), but isn't ten times better that the good ol' Ravine. Maybe 25% to 30% better. But with better tires, the Ravine comes much closer. Hmm, ok, I have modded my Ravine a bit, with approx 10mm more wheelbase and angled ally link bars, made by me. A friend at work has a Gmade R1, which is 3 times the Ravine price, but with pretty high spec. Though I haven't seen it in action yet.

Not for nothing but the cheap crawler here in the states is called the Danchee Ridge Rock its from Redcat Racing and its unstoppable but its Achille's heel is its front suspension I wrecked two of em running on pillows for crying out loud and on one the ESC kept conking out so though it articulates like a Cobra and can climb like a monkey the front is as fragile as an egg. I ended up with Redcat's Everest 10 doesn't have rear articulation but its built like a tank and so far can do pretty much whatever the RR can do just not as pretty too watch. I took the tires off and wrapped 100g of plumber's solder around each wheel well, then wrapped that with electrical tape. And a few weeks later, I 3D printed some thin "sleeves" that were then glued to the back of the wheel centre and extend a little bit over the axle hub, then wrapped another 60g plumber's solder over that bit as well. Hehe, I realize that half of the weights are always above the axle centre, but what the heck!

That's super fast for crawling... I drive my crawler 5-10 times slower than that. It has a 50T brushed motor and I use air filled tires, to be able to be soft as possible. I recommend those both for awesome crawling experience, it grips like crazy and You can drive it ridicilously slow. It wil climb almost anything, with no "wheel speed" whatsoever needed.

  • @_blood_moon_proto_1500

im surprised for the cost, i reckon makes some custom metal parts, try and find a way to give it a dig function and give it some high end tyres and it would competitive, i think beyond that, give it some heavier servos it would even be a winner, things like shocks and motors seem to be an after thought with improvements, though i would like the see some metal parts for it, tho thats just me

I have one, and for the £180 it cost, it isn't that much better than a good 550 brushed with a 1080. If I was on a budget, no way would I buy it again. Yes it's top shelf, but no, it's not worth the cash when you are it on the trails.

brilliant comparison (if not driving! - sorry!!!). Ravine and £100 of tyres and tweaks seem like they'd match the Capra. The Capra is what we aspire to, the Ravine is easily punching over its weight. Seems to be 90% as good, for 10% of the money. Great advet for FTX, and I reluctantly say, not such a good review of the shiny stuff on the Capra. Great video though :-).

after over half of a year owing 3 of them so far my favorite tyres are from ali express the Austar Hobby Bully Comp tyre 2.2, extremely skinny so the low weight of the vehicle presses a bit better on the tires, also very soft tires in general. combine with rim weights on the front only and its scary how far it can go and how much more expensive vehicles it leaves behind.
