Sometimes, the most troubling issues we face are ones we’re too frightened or hesitant to talk about with others. In this episode, Thomas deals with some troubling thoughts from the night before, and it has the Sides at odds with how to address the situation, if at all. And it doesn’t help that a new force is bringing all of this forbidden thinking about. Hope you all enjoy!

Also a couple of people have theorised that Thomas and Joan had been planning Remus since the 'Moving On' episodes, and in that when Thomas is looking through his old drawings in Patton's room he holds up a picture he drew when he was a child of him 'electrocuting' his brother
So it could be said that that's the first thing Remus said to him because maybe when Thomas drew that picture that was when Remus was 'born' so to speak, so not only is Remus talking about his own brother (Roman) he could also be talking about Thomas' brother in reference to the drawing

Those two have a connection that virg doesn’t have with the other sides. They two understand each other completely differently. Logan can tell with Virgil is on the verge of an anxiety attack and watches him closely. He knows what triggers Virgil and when he accidentally mentions something, he stops himself and uses different vocabulary to ease Virgil. I love their friendship and it’s SO UNDERRATED

Virgil's voice sounding layered and distorted when he's overwhelmed is such a good representation of what anxiety attacks feel like.

I think Deceit's name is either Jake or Damien. Jake, because all the Jakes I know, (and I know five, one of which is my brother) have the same traits as Deceit. They're great at manipulating, great at lying, very cunning, etc. And Damien, because in Greek Origins, Damien means "To tame", or in other words with the Sides, "To keep they're mouths shut".
Jake has a casual, but villainous tone to it. Villainous, meaning You wouldn't want to upset them, or they're Kind of that person that's....a little bit like someone who's strong mentally and physically. And Damien just has a great menacing tone to it, but all the Damien's I've seen on TV have gone from a character that you just wan to go away, kind of like a really bad villain, have gone to a great person, reformed almost. And I can see that same potential as Deceit. Simply because Lying can be used to protect someone, where as intrusive thoughts have no benefits to them. They just make you uncomfortable and make think weird, horrible things. (Like in this video.) Therefor, I see the potential in deceit to become a light side, as Virgil did, where as Remus, I see no potential whatsoever.

the reveal that Virgil used to be a dark side was so well done. the stunned silence after he said it and the way he just half-heartedly shrugged made me wanna cry. I feel like it was something we kind of always knew, but for some reason it hit a lot harder to hear him actually say it.
Fun fact: Thomas was actually tearing up in the filming of that scene. He compared it to coming out of the closet which made it more emotional to him. You can clearly see Virgil's eyes filling with tears at certain shots in the scene and even a bit of eyeshadow smearing. If you look close enough, you might see a tear fall. It just added to the sadness and uncertainty of the scene as Virgil is upset to reveal his past and fear the outcome of how Thomas would react. Man it was so good even if as a collective fandom we knew he was a dark side already😅

I was really appreciative of it as well, as someone who has a lot of resentment towards religion and complicated feelings about religious people. those warnings give me time to prepare and adjust.

That's not a trauma thing that's just a "rather not see this" thing, which trigger warnings are also helpful for
I really, really like Janus' line in Forbidden Fruit.
"He said you're wanting to be more honest and be direct dealing with your issues, no longer will you deceive yourself about the ugliness within you."
It's actually really upseting that it took a fan comic for me to finally realize this was referring to Thomas, but once I did, it easily became one of my favorite lines out of the whole series.
Janus represents self-preservation, which comes with deceit. But he doesn't just want Thomas to deceive others, and thats where the misinterpretations of his character mess up. He's responsible for Thomas deceiving himself aswell, and we're told that alongside his introduction. And that idea is what causes a lot of the later episodes to happen.
For example in Selfishness v Selflessness, when Patton says Thomas was really excited to go to the wedding Thomas hesitates before agreeing with him, and we later find out that he actually didn't want to go to the wedding at all. And yet there was still a dilemma between whether or not choosing the callback would make Thomas a bad person or not, so he chooses the wedding regardless. Even Roman, someone who agreed with what Janus was arguing for, ultimately went against him because of the way Thomas viewed self-preservation at the time.
And that's the cause behind this episode. Virgil and Patton, the 2 sides who had conflicted with Janus the most up until Putting Others First, both jump on the thoughts Thomas had and make them out to be a bigger deal than they were because of that fear of being a bad person. Thomas wants to be more honest with himself, and with that he ends up making this out to be more indicative of his true character than it really was.

That's a lot of word-salad for basically stating that Remus began appearing because Patton and Virgil cracked down on Thomas about Janus making a completely valid point and the over-correction let Remus loose.
@@Egobyte83 Well not really. Remus wasn't "let loose" by anything except Janus, he's the one who reveals the sides to Thomas if he wants to know about them, we are told this in Can Lying Be Good. What I was _trying_ to say was that Janus says Thomas wants to be more honest with myself and thats why Remus is revealed, and Thomas is trying to be more honest with myself because of SvS.

Can we just talk about Logan's character development, at first he never knew how to deal with emotions, but now he's calming and loving to all the sides.
I would gladly talk for 2 hours about Logan's character development, but instead I'll just say I love him and I become prouder and prouder of him in each video
That's honestly one of the things I love best about these videos, is that the Sides are all developing and becoming more complex and learning. They're opening up more, being more vocal, more understanding, and working together and it's beautiful.
I still think that logan needs a video specifically for his character development, because i feel they haven't directly adressed his "not wanting to deal with or feel his own emotions". Its been hinted at, but never brought up

The fact that his name is revealed the same video he is introduced really helps to establish that he is never one to hide anything.

When Virgil is talking about ghosts not being evil and noticed Remus, his voice gets the deep filter when he says “SHOW UP”. And they’ve used that filter to depict whenever Virgil’s anxiety is heightened. I love attention to detail so much
Its honestly so impressive that Thomas, Logan, Patton, Virgil, Roman, Deceit, and Remus are all played by Thomas, but he's so good at doing distinct voices for each, even if they only vary slightly, that most of us could probably pick out which one is speaking just from hearing them.

In rewatching this episode, there was one detail that stuck out to me.
In SVS, Janus called out Virgil for being a Dark Side, doing everything except explicitly stating it. When Remus showed up, look how Virgil looked at Thomas. He was scared that he was going to be outed as a Dark, and apologetic about not keeping the others away.
Virgil also was blinking a lot through this, and his eyes were red. He genuinely looked like he was about to cry for the entire episode. And when he was about to tell Thomas he was a Dark, he covered his eyes. He had started crying, only after the others left. He didn’t want to be vulnerable. Even more than that, he probably was afraid that would tell them everything, even though he only wanted to tell Thomas. He didn’t want to be patronized by Patton, made fun of by Roman, taunted by Remus, or have Logan explain it in enough detail to make it bigger than it was. Virgil didn’t want to tell anyone except Thomas about his past.
roman, patton, and logan already knew, actually. thats made clear by the way patton and logan have this annoyed look on their faces like "what an asshole" after remus said "it was just like old times!"
keep in mind, they already knew about janus and remus before they were revealed. so it would only make sense for them to know about virgil, considering they already knew who he was when he was revealed. (ex: "hey there princey." "oh-kay, I cant stand that guy...") the only thing they didnt know about him was his name. which follows, considering they didnt know janus or remus' either.
the reveal that virgil used to be a dark side was for thomas alone. and technically the audience too, but i mean...we called it a long time ago lol.

I deal with intrusive sexual thoughts all the time, which is weird given the fact I’m completely Asexual and have no intention of ever doing any deed. I’ve never opened up about this to anyone because of how ashamed it makes me feel. Despite the fact I can’t control it. It grosses me out so much. It’s so intrusive too. I’ll literally be at a vending machine looking at what bag of chips to buy, then: BOOM! The image of an old lady in lingerie pops into my head. (Not that I care for that sort of thing, think about it regularly or want to think about it at all, but it just appears out of nowhere) it’s really scary and weird. Once I was with a couple of friends and we were just hanging out and I started dry heaving due to this gross thought. It quickly passed, but I hate that this is how my brain works
they're actually quite a common type of intrusive thought, i have them as well and they're horrible. you aren't the only one
its.. actually ocd. and i really recommend you do some research and look into it bc it can be pretty bad if you dont know how to handle it
@@kalebhateclub9668 being hypersexual stems from multiple different disorders and/or trauma, actually. Its not exclusive to OCD. In fact, its more closer to a disorder like BPD in my opinion, as someone who actively has intrusive sexual thoughts and has BPD. Hypersexuality can also be a resort of SA trauma and can be worsened by PTSD. Its a coping mechanism even for people who may not have any other underlying disorders.
Omg same. I am disgusted with sex and the real thing makes me gag whenever I've tried it. And yet at random times random scenes pop into my head. But at the same time so do many other types of intrusive thoughts. How to hurt me or others, what would happen if this and that happens, and more.
Oh god, I had this for weeks with really horrible racist thoughts. I obviously didn't associate or identify with them- I am in no way and will never be a racist- but I'd just be watching something and someone of colour would be on screen and my brain would be like haha lol let's be meanies and it was the absolute worst

Romulus and Remus were the brothers that founded the "twin" cities of Rome and Sparta... who were ever at each other's throats. their rivalry was indeed legendary. it was the mythology Behind said cities rivalry, to explain why they fought so much. a set of twins raised by a she wolf with one being the "smart" one and the other being the "brute force" one.
it's so well known that it was the basis for the fictional races of the Romulans and the Klingons. both said to be derivative of the Vulcans.

The way Virgil’s voice turned demonic at 6:21 as a defense machanise a few seconds before Roman was attacked shows how he cares about Roman. Also when he gasps at 6:25 when Roman was struck shows how he was worried about his well being before realizing that they can’t actually die. ❤️
He obviously cares for Roman, though they squabble, but I think he was mostly caught off guard. Especially considering what he was saying about ghosts just as he noticed Remus. "Ghosts aren't evil. They just scare people because you never know when they're going to *Notices Remus* SHOW UP?!"
The voice change is when he/Thomas are scared. When they are scared is when Vergil is most powerful but he also is really trying no to scare Thomas more so he tries really hard not to use the demon voice which is why he presses his lips together in the reaction shot right before Logan says "ah. it's the Duke" and then doesn't talk for a while.

I so deeply love all of Logan’s facial expressions in this episode. A lot of the focus is on Remus (obvious introduction), Patton (repression), and Virgil’s heightened emotional state and eventual reveal; Logan’s managing of the situation goes under appreciated until the very end.
